Mohammad Rizwan - First impressions!

Asad shafiq doesn't hv a good enough eye and doesnt pick the length up quickly, so his technique is of no use.
As for rizwan, i hv seen his inability against the short ball in the pentangular. His backleg lifts up when he pulls, signifting that all his weight is on the front foot.
Even today he was unable to score from a back of a length.
Its not a question of technique. He will be fed with that length from a lot quicker bowlers and he doesnt hv shots to counter that length.
He is even worse than sarfaraz with that length

You have to keep in mind that these guys get little to no technical help before they reach the highest level of cricket. The help that they do get is not upto the standard, I'm sure some of his issues can be ironed out if he is willing to put in the hard yards and work on it.

Remember when Haris first started the bat was twisting in his hand everytime he tried to hit in the mid wicket region, but that issue has been significantly improved.

Everybody can improve and contribute to the side if they have the right attitude, but if you believe that you have already 'achieved everything' then I'm sorry you will soon find your way out of the side, as we have seen with some of the youngsters.

Talk about cricketing issues. I am in the same boat as far as condemning shehz's intelligence and attitude however, i feel he is better than haris.
If u look at the uae game, shehz was the guy who was more at ease and has comparatively more shots than haris.
The latter just has a glide to third man, some dtives to the off which very quickly in his innings gets packed which results in him getting stuck. Unlike shehz, he cannot play a good pull shot either and u called that he played milne the best.
He may be good off the front foot but his back foot game is attrocious.
Add to the fact, that he is not good against spin like shehz who atleast still redeems himself by getting the odd boundary.

Shehzad can bat twice and still not be as good as Haris, who himself is nothing special.

Yeah it sucks that Maqsood got injured because the #6/7 role would be best suited for him.

I dont disagree with what u said, but whatever u propose is hypothetical.
The good thing about him is that he is a pressure player and will deliver in the big games. I say that coz i saw him score a match winning ton, while chasing 270 odd in the pentangluar final.
Add to that his innings today on debut.
He isnt a softie and seems like a traditional pakhtun warrior.
Hopefully he gets better on his backfoot game coz if you look at it, all our presrnt batsmen can't hook or pull, staeting from azhar to rizwan, with hafeez as an exception

I hate shehz's aqal and chichorapan as well. He is a clown but he is a better batsman on a phatta than haris.
Against the new ball, haris might hv an edge coz he does stride forward and get to the pitch but he doesnt hv enough shots to chase big totals on a flatbed.
Shehzad's innings against almost the same attack in the t20 world cup n the asia cup should serve a good comparison

The fact that he was playing off the backfoot effortlessly? Just because he mishit a couple of pull shots doesn't mean anything. The commies were also adoring his back-foot play.
 
Has proper cricketing shots but a poor defence. Can time the ball well, but has a tendency to premeditate. Also struggles to find gaps but not as hopeless as Shehzad who is the worst in cricket.

He'll do well in this series but the lack of defence can be interesting against other top teams. Not a talent that will set the world on fire but surely deserved a run in the side, so let's see how he does.

I'm more excited for Babar, Sami and Amin who all have much higher ceiling.
 
Looks a good prospect, has flaws, but if he can work on them, can turn out to be a good batsman for years to come, only 22 years of age too. He'll be peppered with the bouncer for the rest of the series though, so Grant Flower should work with him to counter that

may be he was feeling pressure of first match thats why going hard on the ball
 
Definitely has the talent and potential. Very agile in the field and should be persisted with in the middle.
 
he is a good prospect.
people complaining about his pull shots, well you cant get Lara, sanga, dravid from the day 1.
it was his debut, played good game. impressive inning. he do have some flaws, but give him time.
and we will see a very young and potential cricketer.
 
I didn't see the innings but bedsides the boundaries did he look comfortable working the ball around or is from the Misbah school? The other question I the other question I wanted answered was about Harris, did look fluent through the off side?

he was busy on the crease
rotated the strike very well
i hope he serves pakistan for a very long time
 
many says that he is very weak on back foot.. can someone post video of his innings here as i didnt watch him play..
 
Looks a bit like Rohit Sharma.

He looked good and saw some promising things; but won't jump the gun... Maqsood and Jamshed started their careers of well too. Needs to be focused and composed; I feel he should open .
 
Another Kamran Akmal/Umar Akmal clone. However, he looks classy.

Good to read. I might not agree with everything you say, but you are generally a good judge of a player. Looking forward to seeing this lad play now.

Thanks. When you watch the highlights you'll notice that he tries to play down the ground, rather than taking the aerial route at every opportunity, which proved to be the weakness of someone Umar and Maqsood in particular.

That is what separates a batsman from a slogger at the end of the day. Too many Pakistan batsmen like Umar Akmal and Imran Nazir have wasted their careers through chasing glory instead of hundreds.
 
Great chance for him to cement his place in the side for a long time, if he can play a big knock today.
 
Impressive so far on the back of the 2 innings he has played. Rotates strike effortly, keeps the ball along the ground and has good foot-work.

Only criticism would be the his bat often comes down at an angle like Shafiq, which makes him susceptible to the arm-ball. Looks more of a top 4 player though.
 
Mohammad Rizwan will go so long inshallah from what I feel. He has class.
 
He's poor at his primary job - Wicket keeping.

Both Sarfraz and Umar are better in this department.
 
We have three mediocre wicket-keepers, all of them are poor against spin. Sarfraz is the better of the three, with Rizwan probably on par with Umar.

Sarfraz has been excellent behind the stumps after that UAE home series (where he somehow got labeled average).

Didn't bottle it at the World Cup as well.

He's good against pace, ball doesn't turn and grip much there. His keeping was very ordinary in UAE.

Adnan is the best wicket-keeper in the country, but he's dud with the bat.
 
Rizwan is taking mediocre wicket-keeping to the next level. This is sad to see!
 
He is not a WK, & he shouldn't be played under 3. Opener, one down max. Any part-time spinner 'll make him struggle.

Rashid Latif said some time back that Rizwan is not a good keeper.

Waqar wanted to try him, hope he doesn't make such a mistake again.
 
Hope he is not dropped because of this.

He is a quality batsman. Don't ruin his career due to keeping error. You made Umar Akmal keep and ruined him, don't do it to Rizwan.
 
Good batsman but needs to work hard on his keeping as well ! Can be a very good player in near future and certainly we can hope this guy has a good future ahead of him !

The poor performance infront of the international cameras may force him to improve. I hope he keeps the pressure on Sarfraz as the competition will keep both on their toes.

That I can't tell - playing shots is one thing & playing with something at stake is different.

I tell a story - a young man in late 80s was hitting golf balls & putting ball from every angle in Club house, everybody was excited that next (*) is developing & the young gentleman was a bit hyper about his prospects as a pro golfer. So, that old pro (*) came & gave that young man a small challenge - $1 bet for putting 10 balls from a club (1 metre distance) - unfortunately, that young man failed to put 9 times out of 10. That old pro told that, putting balls is one thing & putting bardies & egales in Masters or Ryder Cup is a bit different, though the game is same - club, ball, greens & putting holes. Boy, first try to look at someones eye before entering in the course. I don't know that young-man, but that Old Pro (*) was Jack Nicklus.

Playing in PAK domestic, nobody 'll be able to take the pressure in Internationals. It started with batsmen, fielders, now I see even bowlers. In few years time, you 'll see PAK players shitting in their pants taking on IND, if this "Domestic style" goes on.
 
Has a bit of swagger and poise about him, lots of potential here.
 
The Peshawar Dynamite is doing well, but batting at the wrong position.

Team balance is not right, he needs to move up as he's a proper batsman and not a power hitter. Bring in MAqsood at his place, move him up.
 
Excited after a long time

I have never created a thread hyping a player , but after a long time a pakistani youngster (rizwan)has excited me. his technique might not be the most elegant but his body language , confidence and fielding skills are refreshing.

With few of the the dinosaurs gone , hopefully more of the new talent will come through.
 
I liked what i saw of him. He doesn't rely on slogging like the other hacks like Shezy Anwar Ali or Akmals.

Just clean cricket
 
A very good innings by Rizwan . Sensible positive batting with good strike rate . Unlike blind slogging like Sohaib Maqsood & Umar Akmal . Crucial runs at crucial stage . # Good Signs
He has worked so hard in the last 2 years to make pakistan team . It's time we persist with him at number 6 and give him a longer run at this position rather than the chopping & changing our most fans want after few failures and the chopping & changing syndrome our most selectors usually suffer . Give him a decent run now .
 
Time will tell how good he is , from my perspective its refreshing to see a few good prospects coming through , him and yasir shah are setting a good trend .

I had my doubts. But he is proving me wrong . i am a fan of him now . his commitment, proactive approach and ability to deal with pressure are enough to tell you he will be a success.
 
Loved the way he carted away Malinga, those two fours down the ground were magnificent.

He was having trouble getting Malinga away initially, but he made a tiny adjustment by using his wrists to make sort of ramp with his bat which allowed him to get underneath those yorkers. That reminded me of Virat Kohli who uses the exact same technique against Malinga. Quite intelligent, well played.

I still feel he is not suitable for the lower order though, but apart from Shehzad the top order is pretty much booked.
 
Class player. Only a genuine batsmen could wait late on a Malinga yorker and punch down the ground for 2 consecutive 4's. The hook for 6 wasn't bad either.
