Mumbai Indians defeat Chennai Super Kings by one run to win IPL title

Nitish Rana is probably not even in the top 35 players for India, but would walk in the Pakistan batting lineup eyes closed.

Pakistan really needs to look at their local coaches at the under 15 level. The amount of trash batsmen that we're producing is alarming.

If India was as good as people here think then they would not lost so many icc events in the last 5 years

I would rather give Uthappa a 'rest'.
I would do that too but there is a big difference being poor and being deliberately poor. Uthappa has been like this for the whole season, rana played out a whole over in pp like it was a test and those 5 balls in the end cost them.

We have made it to atleast the semis in every icc tournament since world cup 2011. We are plenty good.

KKR are far too dependent on Russell. Their bowling is awful. Gill should be moved up the order and Lynn should be replaced with Ferguson. They need both Gurney and Ferguson.

Jaipur, April 20, 2019: Rajasthan Royals will be led by the Australian batsman Steven Smith for the upcoming matches of the IPL. Ajinkya Rahane did a fantastic job in leading the team to the playoffs last year, however, the franchisee now thinks a fresh approach is needed to bring their 2019 campaign back on track.

Steve has always been part of the leadership team within RR and Rahane will continue to be a key voice in the side, therefore the Royals see this as a small restructuring process to secure the results required to move up the table.

Zubin Bharucha, Head of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals, said, ‘Ajinkya is and will always be a true Royal. He led the team to the play offs in 2018 in a very challenging scenario and that will go down as one of the great comebacks of the IPL. He remains a key part of our side and leadership team and will extend support wherever required to Steve.”

“Steve is one of the most innovative and successful captains in the world, in all formats of the game. We are confident he can lead the Royals to success.” added Bharucha.

How pathetic, a team banned for fixing giving its reins over to a player banned for cheating. A perfect match if there ever was one.

Rajasthan have had a ball tamperer captain their side in the past too - Rahul Dravid. :) If we start playing the game of 'all ball tamperers are pathetic cheats' then the list is going to very long.

Everyone tampers with the ball, only smith and co managed to bring in conspiracy and planning to it. He is a cheat, will always be a cheat, quite ****** to put someone like that as a captain especially given their own reputation.

Swiping an apple from market and armed robbery are different things.

Better they get rid of Rahane the player on whole! Franchisees should better look for finer T20 specialists at domestic level... Rahane should concentrate on preparing for Test Championship!

Is he really good test player though? He is a travesty as a spin player, doesn't look at ease when facing pace. Outside of his england tour ages ago he hasn't done anything of note.

That's what I said, trying full-time to prepare for Test Cricket... That's the only hope he has! (Like Pujara). If he fails in that as well, then goodbye all for once!

Every bowler who used to tamper had the backing of his captain.

No bowler is going to tamper without the knowledge of the captain. Atleast almost no one.

Steve Smith is as guilty as captains of all teams who tamper the ball.

Its no big deal that he's made captain.

Ok i thought you were implying he is a good test player instead of t20 one. I feel we should be looking at likes of gill to replace rahane, sadly with the muppets incharge i expect stuart binny and rayudu to get a chance before they think of gill.

52 . 1

5 overs

Very good start , Delhi doing well here , required run rate under control here

Steve Smith is by the far the best man for the RR captaincy. Rahane is absolute dud of a captain. Can't handle the pressure.

The RR is just 7 and the glorified tailender hack goes for a reckless shot and loses his wicket after 6. And this irresponsible hack should be in the WC squad? :))) I lost count of how many times in the last few months did this guy throw his wicket away in the similar fashion! Heck! the new kid Ryan Parag played a more responsble and calculated attacking game today than this brainless hack!

Dean Jones predicts RCB will score 161 and it's exact what they scores...!!

Congratulations SM bhayi. But this will not last long. Srh will will soon lose their only inform batters to other commitments.

I think our bench strength also good.. batting will be little weaker but bowling will be strong with the inclusion of Stanlake/Shakib/Nabi.. also Manish and Guptil not bad either..

WHAT A DELIVERY that by Dale.. Perfect Yorker to Raina... CSK in trouble, 6/2 after first over...

Moeen in sublime form yet he’s sent in to bat at 6. Kohli the genius.

I hate RCB as much as a rational IPL fan should but they do have awesome fast bowlers.

Never mind! That's one hell of a knock by Thala! Brilliant brilliant batting display by one of the greatest finishers of world cricket!

Saini is developing bowling Brains right before our eyes. Its bumrah in IPL2014 at MI again.

If only Thala had taken that 1 single in the previous over! Never mind! No other Indian Player besides Pandya played this kind of a brilliant knock in this year IPL thus far. Brilliant hitting by Thala!!!

This inning was awesome. Other Chennai batters are getting too old to bat.

PSL Superstar Watson is a walking wicket this season! Rayudu, Jadeja, Bravo, Jadhav are a joke of a batting lineup! There's absolutely no support. CSK somehow managed to make it to play offs despite this nonexistent batting lineup, all thanks to their Spinners and Chahar.

He used to bowl 145+ more often during initial games of IPL. Recently I am seeing more of his delivery in the 137k range.

All though he is fast, I do not believe he will be any more different than Siraj or Khaleel.

even yesterday he clocked 150...

Hopefully RCB sees talent in Saini and retains him with them (like how MI did with Bumrah!) Stupidity of Kohli's captaincy to ask Umesh to bowl the last over! Really most teams would finish Umesh by 15 to 17th over at the most, and will make the best use of him with the new ball (even 1st over to him with brand new ball, as he can get those magic balls at times!) Otherwise don't have in the the team at all... Also when someone is in good form (Moeen Ali) make best use of him (should have come at No.3 or 4) and he also didn't bowl???

That's what people thought about even Bumrah! Saini is cutting down his pace for accuracy and for the way batsmen are hitting in T20... I am sure he will be in full flow once he plays for ODI or Tests! Looks pretty determined to play at top level...!

Well people also thought Khaleel was some 145k speed demon.

Cricket has its own script-writer and his name is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and he writes them better than Shakespeare. Hindsight is a great thing you know, but if he´d successfully run the two runs instead of going for a boundary, it would´ve gone down as one of the smartest last-over chases, where he went for the leather when required and brought his brains into it as soon as the situation demanded otherwise. Just bat on ball and it was done, but not to be.

As for not taking the three singles in the 19th over. Besides criticising and or speaking in his favour on this, there´s a third angle to it, which is of being immensely brave to deny a capable hitter like Dwayne Bravo the strike so that he can do it all on his own, being fully aware the criticism he would´ve received at failing. "36 off 12? No issues, I´ll do it. Hmmmm, not to be. 26 off six, let me do it!" It is this attitude of almost a soldier which makes MS what he is. Cricket has been played by many greats, hundreds of them greater than him; many of them have invented something or the other, many of them have left a mark on the history of the game, but MS will forever be remembered as possibly the most gutsy and brave cricketer, a batsman who risked his team´s chances in order to win it all alone. He´ll definitely be remembered as the greatest "believer" that Limited-Overs cricket has ever seen. His self-belief astonishes me! Never could I´ve chosen a better batsman than him for all my admiration.

MS is not to be criticised or praised, he´s to be enjoyed and cherished. One of the most unique cricketers to have ever graced the game.

Lastly, full credit to Parthiv. He did to MS what MS did to Bangladesh on the same venue back in 2016, in World T20. Excellent, sharp throw to run out Thakur.

Indian Premier League 2019 - Tournament Discussion Thread

I heard the experts make the point that Ashwin Mankading Buttler has had such an impact on the tournament that Thakur wasn´t trying to take any advantage by walking forward off the last ball, lest Umesh should run him out. This probably did have an effect as he was run out by 12 centimetres in the end. But my question is, why did Thakur not do it? Surely, CSK still had three wickets in hand, and even if Umesh had Mankaded him, the ball still would´ve had to be bowled and this wouldn´t have hurt Chennai even one bit. That´s stretching it too far because given the situation, there was every possibility of Umesh not even paying attention to Mankading in the heat of the moment.

I seriously think that Thakur missed a trick there!

Steve Smith can't be given captaincy. He was part of organized cheating gang in Aussie dressing room. Already RR were suspended for two years.

By far the best man for the RR job. They look a much better team. Should have been captain from the start of the season.

MMHS, Steve Smith is in unbelievable form. Remember those who said he shouldn't go to the WC? :))

Potentially a glorious summer for Steve Smith and Australia awaits?

He was always a better strategist but captionship is more than that. I hope you get that.

He won't be involved in ball tampering again and also it wasnt his idea. He failed to stop it.

Rahane just isn't a captain.

And we were wrong. But I swear he bowled some spells at that speed last year in domestics.
Yeah I understand, saw a highlight of him bowling 148k I think at some domestic game. Thats why I think we should see wide range of games before making judgments.
