Just finished watching it and I must say it is the best of the series. It combined the rawness of De Palma along with the grandness of Coppola. Haven't been so impressed by a series related to drugs/cartels/accession to power etc for a long time. The pacing was perfect and the storytelling masterful.

Really got me feeling nostalgic about trendsetting movies like The Godfather, Scarface (of which there is a mention), Once upon a time in America etc.

I would say more De Palma than Coppola. Coppola was class, De Palma was more style over substance.

Overall, it was good but failed to hold a candle to Narcos Seasons 2 and 3 which for me, did the crime-drama template in a much more thrilling and consistently engaging manner. This season also lacked a strong protagonist. I felt Michael Pena was just playing the same role he plays in every movie: of himself. Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal were much better in comparison.

Looking forward to watching this.

Everyone who I have spoken to who has watched it has said good things about it.

Finished it two days ago.

I thought it was excellent and Diego Luna did a tremendous job as Gallardo.

Reminded me of the cold, calculating, ruthlessness of Michael Corleone, gave me chills sometimes. Would discuss some scenes but they would have spoilers. While Heurta (Rafa) was more of a Tony Montana inspired character.

Has to be the worst Narcos season ever....

The acting was good. This guy, Diego Luna was magnificent. I didn't even know this and only realize afterwards that he is the same actor from Tom Hanks movie's "The Terminal" where he plays as a staff member of the airport

And here he was the Drug lord. His acting was magnificent.

However the season was crap, mainly because i have read about Kiki camarena, and if one has read about the events that led to his killing they would know that this season was bullocks.

Kiki camerena was working as under cover, and he worked under cover to an extent that he had befriended Felix.

In this Narcos season, they didn't even bother to tell the true or proper story. If they had done so, this season could had been pretty good.
Infact, it could had been like season 3. Season 3 was interesting because of the rat in the system.
Even the torture season wasn't able to show itself as being very scary type event.

All they did was showed kiki doing undercover work only during a small moment, thats it. While the real story differs

They could had made this season into a very good one had they followed the true story to some extent.

I would say the first 5 episodes are good and the rest of the 5 are not good.
I liked how the showed Felix story, like how he grew to become the Bosses of all Bosses and even after being THE BOSS, he still stays worried because of his associates.

From Felix side, the story is good but from Kiki's side the story sucked

Really enjoyed but I thought the first 3 seasons were a bit better

So is Narcos Mexico a continuation of the original series set in Colombia? Up to season 3 of that, for some reason I stopped watching it when it first came out, and only recently got back into it. I don't know what I was thinking, it's great.

Big fan of Narcos, finished Mexico and found it very slow and boring, weak character development and found myself not rooting for any of the characters, a bit disappointing.

Hope the franchise continues and we get to see Narcos Afghan-Pakistan some day where they highlight the global heroin trade.

Have enjoyed every season and have a soft spot for the series now.

Perhaps S4 was dull in comparison was because Angel Felix did not have the grandiose/ruthlessness of Escobar or the Cali cartel. Let's get one thing straight we're comparing a weed grower to the cocaine mafia. Even the DEA agents in NM seemed like UK constabulary than the action heroes portrayed during the first 3 seasons. The opening shot of Narcos was a brutal club shootout, while in NM its a weed farmer motorcycling his way up the hills!

During the S4 episodes the Mexicans speak about the Colombians with respect and reverence. They are still no match for them, perhaps this reflects in the season's lower intensity as well.

Rest assured the way things turned out for the Mexican drug business and how it is today, I am hoping for for happening seasons ahead.

Finished this today and thought it was absolutely brilliant.

Looking forward to more seasons of this.

Great observation. Don't know how I missed it before, this could very well just be the beginning. However as another poster pointed out would like a season based on Afghanistan or even the Golden Triangle.

That's actually what I loved about Felix's character, he is obviously not a grandstanding mafioso, he's more calculating and reserved with very little ego. Season 4 is not as explosive as the previous three, but it is riveting nonetheless. I would say quality wise it is every bit as good as it's predecessors.

I am watching gossip girl in Netflix. The most pathetic show. Yet, it's so cringy that hard to miss.

Wonder if they will ever make a Narcos Pakistan series! Would be amazing!

There seems to be an overflow of drug cartel shows in recent times and they are being unnecessarily glamorised. They are now people in the world who actually admire the likes of Escobar etc. Narcos and the likes seem to be the "in" stuff today. A 16 year old cousin of mine has changed his phone wallpaper to an Escobar picture and that is what he calls himself on Facebook as well.

It appears that video games are ready to jump on the bandwagon as well, if the GTA 6 rumours have any legs. According to rumours, the lead character(s) are going to be involved in the drugs business and will be based in North and South America. Narcos was enjoyable initially but it is getting overwhelming now.

I mean some people glamorize corrupt looters and plunderers so why not druggies..

When i was a kid i only knew things like Choco bar. Not criminals like Escobar. :ashwin

Nice trophy :afridi

Anybody watch season 2 yet?

Watched it during the weekend. It has become more of like a soap opera now for lack of an solid story and script and it is dragged way too much. The last couple of episodes were good and had the essence of the first season but all in all I wouldn't recommend it as a whole season.

Watched the latest series. Had a few moments, otherwise a flop.

I think this is building up characters esp El Chapo.

I thought the visuals have been brilliant along with the script but once Pablo went, nothing was going to be as good. I still enjoyed it.

They should do one on Karachi and Altaf Hussain, raise awareness

Drugs originate up north, why KHI? and even in KHI drug pipeline in controlled by people from the North.

Altaf & his thugs are responsible for other mayhem but Drugs & Guns come from somewhere else.

Season 2 of Narcos: Mexico was a disappointment. Aside for maybe 2-3 episodes at the end, the rest were eh.

Started watching the second season.

Explosive stuff as always.

There is truth to this. This is one of the reasons why I don’t like Rockstar’s last 2 games apart from the bad writing and gameplay. Gta 5 and Red Dead 2. Instead of smartly satirizing the crime life, they are glorifying it. Look at the greatest crime films of all time (Scorsese’s and the first 2 Godfathers). They don’t glorify crime. In fact they do the opposite by showing repercussions

Started watching the second season.

Explosive stuff as always.

Gave up after 4 episodes. Nowhere near as good as series 1.

Couldn't get into it.

The second half is brilliant. The first half is a build up of Felix's issues but things move quickly in the last few episodes. You will also miss the rise of Chapo, who will feature in the next season.

I always watch in Spanish - the acting is brilliant as is the flow...

Finished it.

It got a bit better, but it wasn't as good as some of the other Narcos series.

For those who have watched this:

The Mexican government has auctioned off the villa of drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes to raise funds for the public health service and its fight against coronavirus.

Carrillo Fuentes, who was known as the "Lord of the Skies", died in 1997 after botched plastic surgery.

His former house went for more than $2m (£1.6m) and the auction - which also included cars, planes and jewellery - raised more than $4.5m in total, all of it going to tackle Covid-19.

A little run down but a great property, excellent investment. Might be a bit spooky for some but it's part of history.

Watching new season....just amazing this stuff.

Finished the new season.

Will always be hard to live up to the first few seasons but really enjoyed it. 9/10.

Started the new season. It's a bit slow compared to the previous seasons and it's missing a charismatic lead character like Pablo in the first few seasons and Felix in the last two seasons but still a good watch nonetheless. Overall, a great series. One of the best ever but didn't get overhyped like Breaking Bad.

Didn't really enjoy this season much tbh.

Thought the subplot with the missing girls and the journalist woman was very weak and a waste of time (especially the former).

Agree.

It had a lot to live up to.

A bit dull this series.
