What's new

New Zealand (249 & 140/2) defeat India (217 & 170) by 8 wickets to win WTC Final

Silent Kane runs rings around loudmouth Kohli. lol.

But small chance we still have if there is spin in the pitch.

If no spin, might as well shake hands and end it. :))

This game is over.

I wonder how our batsmen can look our bowlers in the eye back in the dressing room.

Just remember, this is going to be the most high pressure chase in history.

The prize for New Zealand - or India - is to win the most important title in the history of cricket.

There is serious pressure coming here. Let’s face it, this trophy is worth ten ICC World Cups!

Not true. We have been poor to very poor for some time now, in all conditions. England exposed quite a bit in our home series 3 months back.

That home series had extreme pitches which would have troubled anyone in the world, I think Indian management and curators went a bit over board with the pitches. Other than that if you see previous home series or even Aus tour Indian batting has done decently other than Eng and NZ in my opinion.

The actual amount of turn won’t matter unless it is really sharp.

In a 4th innings chase, especially with these middling targets it’s good to have 30-40 quick fire runs to calm nerves. Both of NZD openers like to take their time so if anything, there will be a healthy amount of pressure on NZD. Still, NZD are ahead at this stage.

Agreed.

I meant decent turn.

If its super slow turn, even that will be negotiated.

But it will be interesting to see.

55 overs left.

Bowl the spinners in tandem and see if it turns.

If it does, keep them and maybe something might happen.

I can expect time wasting tactics from Indian players but unfortunately for them, sun does not set until 10 here.

Kohli first match in Aus previous year, India lose, Rahane takes over captaincy, India takes the series...Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end for Kohli the Captain, need NZ to win this match and ENG to clean sweep the Indians here, so Kohli is never going to Captain again.

I'm talking more about the first 2 tests which had decent enough pitches. We still failed. Ashwin saved us in the 2nd test with bat or else we'd have lost that test too.

139 Runs of 53 overs overs. India need 10 wickets.

India can win this

devon conway needs to play his natural game, if NZ go into a shell india will get back into this game, crowd is behind india bowlers will be fired up going to be one hell of a chase.

Bumrah is so useless with bat and in field. And if he doesn't perform with ball, he is a big liability for us.

I think NZ would back themselves to get 65-70 off the last 20 overs (light permitting), they can afford going at snail's pace for the first 30 overs thereby preserving wickets for the onslaught.

If they somehow manage to lose this then it has to be the biggest choke in the history of cricket bar none. This is their time to come to the spotlight.

Funnily enough, NZ has a much better record in Asia than India has outside Asia.

India won their last 2 series in Australia, but lost their most recent series in SA, NZ and England.

New Zealand won their last series away to Pakistan in the UAE (and drew the previous one) and drew their WTC series in Sri Lanka.

This will be a tough amd tense chase.

Interested to see how Conway approaches things.

Looks like NZ is winning their first ICC tournament (and that too prestigious test format). But I think they also won one more ICC tournament (ICC knockout or something if I remember correctly! And that was also against India probably!)

You are missing a very important fact - Pak & SL are not at the same level as SENA. It is a fact that NZ has not won against a top team away.

Yeah beating sri Lanka is same as beating England.

Sure, but this NZ team has been winning and drawing away to Pakistan and Sri Lanka while Australia has lost series there just a few months before or after.

Traditionally NZ really struggles on spinning tracks, but they have actually performed better recently.

India are hopeless in England and NZ conditions where the ball swings and seams. They will look good in all other conditions.

I suspect that if New Zealand wins, we will see Ross Taylor and possibly Neil Wagner join BJ Watling in Test retirement.

Today could end up being like when Warne, McGrath and Langer retired.

Whoa NZ is batting ...I literally stepped out for what I felt like was a moment ...

Anyways gotta love test cricket!!

Poor tactic by NZ!!!! By doinging that they will give wickets to Sir Jadeja and Ashwin along with Shami.

India essentially have 3 number 11s with this line up.

Our bowlers cannot bat and our batsmen cannot bowl. The 2 all rounders we have are spinning all rounders. They are useless in England and NZ.

Indian team will always find it hard in England and NZ. They simply do not have the balanced team for these conditions.

No reason for them to not chase 130 odd runs in sunny conditions.

Pressure!

We have already seen them narrowly lose the 2019 50 over ICC World Cup in low scoring conditions.

This is also a low scoring match, but it’s at least ten times more important than that 2019 Final was.

They know that if they win today they become cricketing immortals.

It’s the most important cricket match ever played, by a vast margin, and we have already seen that pressure destroy India’s batsmen, twice.

Ishant slowly ambling to the crease...

Yeah great defence going on.

Boring.

Looks like its all over unless someone bowls a spell of their lifetime.

India can be formidable in swinging conditions only if they improve their batting! Their batting is weak even in Indian Conditions at the moment! (Check last England tour!) Our batting was stronger even in 90s when guys like Navjot Sidhu, Sadagopan Ramesh, Wasim Jaffer used to open! They were much more disciplined & equipped! (And we had Sachin, Azhar... in the middle order)

NZ are winning this... Conditions suited them

Pressure to chase 180 would have been different. 130 runs? I think NZ will get there.

I won't compare India with NZ. NZ had the best bowling conditions most of the time with 5 seamers.

You need a bowler like Shoaib Akhtar to run through NZ batting line up. Hopefully Shami can play that role here. :akhtar :inti

Pressure was not the reason for India's batting failures. We are not good enough in conditions where the moves around

NZ are walking this unless we can get them to 35/4 and engineer some sort of choke.

I think so too.

But I remember England chasing a paltry 145 to win at Abu Dhabi 9 years ago. Only for Abdul Rehman to dismiss them for 72 all out!

I think this test we missed the runs from Ashwin and Jaddu.

Batting middle order was garbage as usual.

That plus Bumrah's screw up tilted the favour.

NZ will win this with 5 or 6 wickets in hand. This is a flat pitch now and Indian batsmen still failed on this.
