New Zealand A vs Shaheens | 4-Day | Whangarei | December 17-20, 2020 | Match Discussion

This is their first proper hit on the tour cut them some slack. The long quartine proof really hampered the preparation

Masood showing a lot of guts, character and intelligence with that marathon innings of 8.

Exactly but who is gonna knock some sense into our fans.

Yes, expected the prolonged quarantine excuse to be forced down our throats this time.

As if our batsmen would have batted like champions in New Zealand conditions like they have in the past.

We are a minnow test team(apart from NZ, Eng,Aus and India everyone is a minnow test team). Honeslty young batsman in QEA trophy don't aspire you with a lot confidence.

Don’t you get tiered of this? Every time your target changed to fit in your logic. This time Abid because Azhar, who is few year older than Abid is basically carrying bat for PAK A against some unknown Kiwi bowlers.

Bottom line is, there is not enough batting resources and youngsters are not earning their spot. You know your cricket and that’s why it sound so funny that innings of 27 & 21 is used an examples.

He’s completely right to target Abid. You have to keep in mind that in each test match, only one of the pathetic trio of Abid, Azhar and Shan will do anything of note. When you play these 3, you’re essentially going into an innings two wickets down. In an ideal world, all three of these individuals would be kicked out of the team and never seen in Pakistan colours again. Yet with Misbah at the helm, we can only hope for a best case scenario, where at least one walking wicket is removed.

With that said, Azhar at least has some international pedigree behind him, and as this innings shows can still somewhat hold up an end despite his utter lack of talent. Shan Masood recently scored a 150 in England, so at least has some utility in SENA.

On the other hand the only thing of note Abid has done is to shamelessly celebrate a 50 by taking off his helmet. He looks scratchy at the crease, has a pathetic technique and provides zero utility aside from his batting. His ODI hundred on debut was against an Australia C-level attack on flat pitches, and his notable Test innings have come against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. At least Fawad can point to his first class average to defend his garbage technique, meanwhile Abid can’t even do that. Utterly awful player, and it’s disgraceful that he’s our first choice opener in both Tests and ODI’s.

If my surname was Cooper I would call my son ‘Enry too.

Despite the lack of resources, Abid Ali should be nowhere near the test team.

Abid hate is unjustified yes in an ideal world he should not be debuting at 30 plus but he has been alright since he came in was OK in England as well out batted both England openers.

No, he is not - Abid is just one example here, who has failed in this game, so being targeted. Azhar has been lambasted by the same guy much more than Abid here.

What he is doing is taking naïve PAK fans to a joy ride selling "talent" & "youth". Few months back, same guy was endorsing Shan Masood as Captain (I was as well, but that's on different logic) .... just in few months that Shan Masood guy has gone to other side of his coin because he is aged by 1 year - do you really believe that!!!!!

Abid is being bashed here by PAK fans with very little understanding of basic cricket - he is a typical front foot opener with very little feet movement and shot making ability.... he'll do well in low bounce Asian wickets, better against BD or SRL attack (even against Aussie reserve pacers), but his game is not suited SENA games. Now, typical PAK fans have hyped Abid at the start from their usual ignorance, but now cursing the guy for his failure - he might get dropped after NZ Tests, but Misbah & PAK fans will do great to PAK cricket if they have some patience and keep him for SAF Tests, he'll do well.

The fact that sohail khan opened the bowling is a disgrace. Can’t believe people like him are still being selected for Pakistan

End of Day (18:31): New Zealand A - 23/1 in 10.0 overs, R Ravindra 11 (19), KJ McClure 11 (30)

In spite of scoring mountains of runs in domestic cricket, Fawad has always failed in international cricket when it was critical for him to perform to keep his place in the team.

This tour could be the end of the road for him in international cricket.

Yeah if he fails here then it is probably over for him.

Not the worse of days Azhar Ali and Imran Butt got decent hits in the middle. Now need Shan and Abid to spend similar amount of time in the next innings could see Butt playing the test over Fawad if he has another decent knock in the 2nd innings and Fadi falis again.

ED NUTTALL FIVE WICKET BAG v PAKISTAN A

Canterbury quick Ed Nuttall has taken his first first-class bag for the New Zealand A team, and the fourth overall of his first-class career on the opening day of New Zealand A's first-class fixture against Pakistan A in Whangarei.

Nuttall claimed 5-54 off his 17 overs in his third New Zealand A first-class appearance, helping the hosts bowl out the Pakistan Shaheens for 194 in 73 overs.

Otago Volts allrounder Nathan Smith backed him up with a tidy 3-59 off 18, including five maidens, on a sweltering afternoon at Cobham Oval - where there was already a sniff of turn in the final session.

Smith had put himself on an unconverted hat-trick with the wickets of Yasir Shah, caught by Joe Carter, and Sohail Khan, caught by Ken McClure in the 60th over.

Pakistan first drop Azhar Ali top-scored for the visitors with a patient 58 off 172 balls after having seen off the early movement - and having seen Nuttall swiftly remove both opening batsmen inside eight overs, after New Zealand A captain Michael Bracewell had won the toss and sent Pakistan A in.

Azhar Ali shared a 49-run stand for the third wicket with Imran Butt, but regular breakthroughs after Butt's departure on 27 cost the Pakistan side the chance to build an imposing total.

By stumps, New Zealand A was 23 for one in reply after the early loss of hometown batsman Henry Cooper, caught off Mohammad Abbas for no score.

Fresh from his century earlier this week against West Indies A, opening batsman Rachin Ravindra and first drop Ken McClure will both resume Day Two on 11* with New Zealand A trailing by 171 on the first innings, with nine wickets in hand.

Our performance will be even worse than WI. At least WI mange to take the game in the 4th day. NZ has capable to beat us in day 3.They will score 350+ in 100 overs. 170 overs are more than enough to bowl us twice.
What a waste of match for young team. As long as Misbah there he will make sure young players will not get enough chances to prove themselves. Feel sorry for Ijaz who is much better coach than wanna be coach like Misbah. Its unfair for Ijaz to be oppressed.

I think PAK will loose all matches but would show more fight in tests..than WI...
HOW come Fawad. Sohail b part of Saheens ......the squad selection should be separate 4 all the squads not a composite 35 ......

This is just a harbinger of things to come. And this is with NZ's second tier bowling attack. Imagine what will Southee, Boult, Wagner and Jamieson will do.

Fully expecting Jamieson to be the second coming of Gary Sobers this series.

All NZ needs to do is prepare ultra green wickets and these Pakistani batsmen will fold like a pack of cards.

Fawad Alam is a living proof of how rubbish our domestic setup us. This guy is truly hopeless at the international level yet is a king back home.

Maybe the only way Pakistan has a chance of fluking a win is if Pakistan puts NZ in to bat first and bowls them out for under 100. Otherwise I foresee two innings defeat.

Fully agree with this. New Zealand are very strong at home. They trashed India last year and India is several levels above us.

If Pakistan can avoid innings defeats in both Tests it will be an achievements.

It should well be the end for Abid Ali and Fawad Alam. We're a 7th ranked team, the only way we can actually reach an acceptable ranking is if we experiment with our players and try different combinations. The team is in drastic need of a revamp, and we can only toss out the dead weight after this series is concluded, when the new chief selector has no "brotherly bond" with the non-performers on the side.

Tough time ahead for Misbah and co.I don't see anything noteworthy......in this series for Pak... It's
Harsh reality......players like Sinwari..Waqas Tabish nowhere 2 b seen and Saud Shakil should have been
Groomed well atleast 5 years ago....same 4 Gohar....
Hamad Kamran Ghulam all but discarded quickly......
Many passengers r there in the team still.....and our t20 fate is hanging on Hafeez alone in this series which is going 2 b a batting shootout..... And it won't b fair 2 expect newbies Haider Abdullah 2 blaze us 2 victory....again I would say we should have considered
Sharjeel......

Lets hope 4 the best........good luck 2 the men in green

Harsh reality. A hockey player has been bossing our domestic teams for years.

Yes an aware - but we use ones that PCB provides.

Pakistan batting, painful to watch at all levels these days.

I tottally agree but i would stil let abid play the 2 test series atleast he cant complain about not getting a fair chance.

Imran Butt had one good domestic season last year when pitches were dead flat, otherwise his record is mediocre. Don't understand the hue and cry for him to be selected.

Imran should be given the oppening slot after this series when and if abid is dropped
