2 gone today already.

Pant run out, what a waste.

I'm shocked we actually got a run out with a direct hit.

pathetic. but I will wait till both teams have batted first.

toss is such An advantage in n.z

if conditions flatten out later it would be unfair to india. But it is what it is.

this indian team is still good but they clearly have a glaring weakness vs swing. So does every other great team. If they can bounce back from this then it will show their true character.

even india with the best batting in 2002-11 did get rolled out for 100 odd vs n.z in such conditions.

Poor and pathetic batting by India. This pitch is by no means a minefield

Crappy batting and the run out was inexcusable. Looks to be batting friendly now and look forward to see what our bowlers can do. NZ on top. Hundred run lead here and their game to lose.

So it turns out, after allllll that, india are in fact worse than they were in the late 90s
Talk about much ado about nothing

Kiwis have almost 100 runs handicap here, but if they are to win this game, it has to be through first innings - anything less than 250 here will make the game open. Kiwis are batting at best possible condition fora Day 2 Basin Test, must capitalize on it.

Ishant better than bumrah so far but both of them failed to make the batsmen bat. Bowling a bit wider and the conditions are fast easing out. If not rushed for some quick wickets, it is over for India.

ishant sharma is probably india's most important test bowler in the last 2 years.

even more than bumrah

It's interesting today- after all the debate on Jamieson's impressive match & whether he could transfer to other venues & still be effective, since his pace was not very high...

That today Ishant is bowling in the same speed range (high 120s/low 130s) & Bumrah is low to mid 130s too. Maybe the wind is making it awkward to balance the run in? Or players are slowing down to let the pitch do the work? Or slow speed gun? Who knows but having seen both teams bowl it seems Jamiseon is maybe not really that slow at all and on other grounds might be a mid to high 130s bowler like most seamers are.

Kohli looking so disinterested. And the team is so relaxed (no sense of urgency in body language) don't know the reasons for both.

Big loss coming for India? Could be a massive win for NZ.

It will be a closely fought match, My prediction has never gone horribly wrong, let's see. If we could get them out under 220 then game on. Don't forget NZ will bat last and it ain't gonna be easy against Shami and Ashwin.

Don't think the pitch really deteriorates that much in NZ, in fact it gets progressively flatter as you can see by the conditions today.

Consistently making the batsmen play is the key but the line and length of Indian bowlers is pretty disappointing to say the latest. Agreed, the pitch is not that helpful but they can stop bowling wide or over pitching. Both bumrah and shami disappionting, Sharma slightly better than these two.

bumrah is a far better bowler in bouncy wickets. He is still learning in swing friendly conditions. Lets see how he goes though.

pitch flattening out yes but india have a good attack so I expect them to take 10 wickets.

Ashwin, time to show some wicket taking abilities which India sorely missed in the past, on your overseas tours with the team...

Waiting to see bumrah EAT williamson in a test match as you predicted earlier

NZ is set to score 400 here.

Pitch looks flat or is our bowling disappointing?

It was'nt swinging corners in India's innings. Indian batters just were'nt skillful enough

it was swinging quite a bit and india also played poorly. Toss matters in SENA. Makes a HUGE difference. Most teams get rolled out for under 150 in n.z

they have won 11 series at home and lost 2. No surprise even good teams struggle when they are asked to bat first early in such conditions.

Jadeja wudv been more threatening here with the turn away from the right handed batsmen

saini should have been picked or pandya even. Just for balance purposes. But india just have to play smart. Lets see.

Bumrah should've been tested, he is clearly not 100%. Pace & length both missing, struggling. Umesh should've been given the go.

pace is fine. length is wayward. Should have rested him for odi's and t20. oh well. He should get better

I think he shouldn't have played this series at all. As for pace, I observe that sharpness is missing, the extra 4-5 km/he pace he normally gives for the team.

Overrated and Lucky No 1 test team getting exposed here. Lucky in Australia that they were missing their best players. With Kohli's purple patch gone this team will go downhill fast

Lol Pak and India fans kill it. One good game xyz players/team are the best in the world one bad game xyz players/team are worst in the world.

Is rain going to play any further part? If rain washes out a day or two, this can become a draw.

One bad session and the game isn't even over lol.

toss matters.

India could still score a lot in the second innings.

Shameful performance by our bowlers so far.

Batting is even more shameful. This is not an unplayable wicket like our batsmen made it out to be.

Pitch seems to have eased out abit. NZ scoring a boundary nearly every over. Are the Indian bowlers getting tired?

Indian batting was not up to the task. Even with tougher conditions, a world class team would still score 300 here. 165 is what Bangladesh would score.

Maybe just a one innings blip getting used to conditions? This is why I hate top teams only playing 2 test series. This series should have been atleast a 3-4 match series..

Don't remind me that

Because of that reason I stopped watching cricket for 4 years.

You cannot stop supporting your team during a bad period. Teams go through phases. You have to support your team through thick and thin. Look at the resilience of Pakistani fans who have not given up on the team despite so many mediocre performances in the last decade and a half. Only flashes of brilliance here and there.

The Aussie attack would have done much much better than these overrated guys.

yea Indians never have that unity. They like to belittle their own people unfortunately.
That's one appreciable quality of Pakistanis because they always get behind their people.

Well Hagley oval will be more bouncy than this.

Why is this a surprise?

The same Indian team lost 7 away Tests out of 10 in 2018.

What is astonishing is that they STILL pitch the ball far too short.

And at Christchurch they will need to be bowling even fuller lengths.

What a stroke of luck for NZ. They won a crucial toss, it was windy overcast and green when India got to bat. WHEN NZ bat the sun is out and bright and the wicket has browned out nicely turning it into a nice Phatta pancake...
