What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 3

Pakistan is playing for Misbah and YK to score runs against tired bowlers with softer ball. It will look fine as long as it works. It can backfire as well if you lose 2-3 quick wickets.

Babar got away with that away from body push, he has all the strokes but won't last long in test without water thight defense specially on pitches like this. Or you have to have sehwag like hand eye coordination.

I am sorry but it's getting a bit monotonous now listening to this same 'as long as it works'. Obviously everyone knows that the middle order has to cash in against the older ball and tired bowlers. It's a given.

Williamson couldn't stand Astle going for more than 6 runs in the over, hence he's off. Tells me that he's getting a bit desperate now.

Babar does have solid defence. What he lacks is temperement which he will only develop by playing more tests. Plus i like his intent to score thats what you need at no.3.

Some noviceness here from Babar Azam.. this would've been a silly dismissal had Wagner got some touch

It's encouraging to see babar azam is playing the short pitch bowling much better then before.

Playing very responsibly at the moment not taking any risk and trying to remove the deficit . Hopefully will free their arms once they get into positive territory.

Disappointing from New Zealand

Why would you not capitalize on the clear advantage of dismissing opposition for 130? How could you give it up that easily?

They DESERVE to get thrashed after this performance

Pakistan have to loose as less wickets as possible today , still two days left , if they can add another 75 runs in final session it will be good.

Yeah I don't know what people are on about. This has been a thoroughly entertaining Test match.

Overall the match has definitely been entertaining but watching Pakistan bat in the second inning has been awful. I get it, the batting conditions are tough and its fine if they simply block or leave the balls through the first 15 overs or so but they have managed a whopping 50 runs in 35 overs. That is so incredibly poor, especially when you are seeing them play dots on the occasional bad balls.

I don't care how many overs we have to take.. reach a score of atleast 250 before getting all out

Whiners will keep whining. It has been good batting from Pakistan.

That is until we lose a couple of wickets in a jiffy and suddenly we're under pressure with the scoreboard going no where. Seen it too many times.

I would hang around for another session by when we should have taken the lead.

Should increase the scoring after that.

I would rather these two keep playing as long as possible to wipe out the deficit.

Poor stuff from Azhar Ali. What if he gets out now? All his survival efforts will go in vain, just because he has been very defensive.

Azhar's been this ways since his debut ... rarely takes the initiative after 'settling' in.

The longer we don't get out.. the more panic it induces in NZ.. they are a panicky side you can see it on their faces.. they don't like what's happened to them one bit.. Pakistan already has moral victory over them.. no one expected them to comback like this after NZ looked in cruise control with 100/3

Pretty much this. 'Positivity' means jack if you're getting all out on scores like 133. Do whatever it takes to bat for a long time.

Not sure why these Afridi hooligans are following Test cricket anyway.

ah yes, when you got nothing constructive to say resort to a lame ad hominem. :))

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Our two most recent batting collapses are: Dubai against Bishoo and here in the 1st innings, both of which involved quite a few bad shots.

A balance would be nice but I'd rather take this (50/1 in 35) than what seems to be the alternative i.e. a collapse.

The plan can't be to bat at 1.5 forever. Something's gotta give. Either the pressure will get to the batsmen or the frustration will get to the bowlers and the rate of scoring will eventually increase. Let's see what happens.

I doubt it.. 180 on final day... with Yasir also in action will be very tough

This pitch isn't going to break up for Yasir. 180 would be very chasebale with the sun shining bright like it is expected to next few days.

No one's asking T20 style approach ... a simple intent to look to rotate the strike to throw the bowlers off their line & length would do. We don't even get that. 50 runs in 35 over is just terrible. Sami being a prime example of what negative mindset does. It's more on Azhar right now then Babar as the latter has looked to keep the scoreboard moving at least while the former doing his usual blockathon.

I agree with this, I don't care if we have to bat all day tomorrow and get a lead of 150.. as long as we don't lose wickets.. I will be looking for us to bat till Saturday morning and make NZ bat.. anything 180 on the last day and it will be nerve wracking for NZ

Yasir doesn't need a square turner. He goes crazy on UAE and Lord's phattas,

This is a side thats playing its first game here.. The more time they spent out there in the middle.. the better it is for them.. you have to understand the pitch to make runs on it..

You have to remember this side came in this game with no preparation and have kept the game in the balance.. whats even more comical is we were like this in a similar position where our batsmen worked hard and got out to stupid shots.. I dont care if they face 200 balls for a 50 as long as they dont lose wickets and take the game in the final day

At this rate we will need two days to get to 300.

What's the record of highest balls played without scoring? I think recently Aussies had that record, but they declined runs in that case. Here Azhar probably scored last run at drinks after lunch.

Pitch and overhead conditions good now, Pakistan to declare with a lead of 350+.

No chance our bowlers bowl them out without assistance.

We are not good at strike rotation, accept it. The only other two alternatives we have are either being flashy or reserved. If one methodology leads to collapse we should opt for the otherone.

At this pace, Pak will get 20run lead at the end of the day. Still a decent position if they do not lose any wickets.

0(33) since then. :azhar

Kane, the master of desperate reviews.

I can't believe Waqar called Kane one of the best captains in the world lmao...

He's in the same bracket as Cook and Mathews, difference being the other two have far better results.

Saturday and No Work + Test Cricket on a seamer against them Hobbits at their home !!!!

MMUUUUAAAHHH !!!!! Geeli Papi to my life :afridi

Azhar might get Babar out here - he was probably 15 or 16 when Babar joined him.

Pakistan starting to hurt themselves playing like this.

The wicket is easy to bat on now, instead they are giving us a chance of saving the Test.
