What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Hamilton | Nov 25-29, 2016 | Day 3

Did Babar actually play like a batsman or did he just slog like Umar Akmal's 1st 100?

I am sure Amin, Saad Ali & Saud will be as well. In PAK, hardly batting technique & fundamentals are appreciated - it's more with where the ball has gone, rather than how.

Babar is lucky that a Pro is in charge & has slotted him at 3 on his 3rd innings - previous novices played Aim in total 20 innings in 6 years at 6 spots. If Arthur stays for 3/4 years; Amin will make a come back while Saud & Saad Ali will play for PAK as well (& Ahmed's career will be over :()

Not again :(
Umar amin is not even 10% of babar. He is totally crap like imran farhat

Cloud is back, so if NZ bats now, it won't be easy.

Even though Canada is a COLD country but it is summer it really is summer, none of these cold, murky, overcast shenanigans. NZ has been like this for the last two weeks or so..

Amin was sent at 3/4; after the dynamic opening pair of Butt & Farhat in one of the wettest English summer against best 2 attacks that time. Send the same teenager in UAE at 5 sandwiched between MoYo & YK you would have seen the tougher side.

Mohammad Hafeez got the Gary Sobers treatment in PAK for best part of a decade, therefore we shouldn't discuss about mental toughness. Play Amin at 4 for 10 innings unconditionally even on CChurch like track - he'll out do many, many stalwarts.

Wahab gone, as I thought - it's Captain cools decision to send him above Amir. When you are sitting on a chair hanging on quick sand, you need to keep the pillars (read seniors) happy & respected.

Yes that's what I have said he needs a chance in a fixed position for a run of games. I rate Harris higher than Amin so would prefer Harris to get a chance.

Lol I don't think it was Azhar's decision. It's happened before that Wahab has come up the order.

Allah mian gaind ki parvaaz ko charhao ata farma Ameen

He played like a combo of ABD,Kohli and Amla :P
I have to exaggerate, i just trust his batting abilities too much

That's true it gets hot in the summer I turn on my AC along with 2 fans at night!

Asthetically, he is better than anyone, left handed MoYo. Technically, he is better than most in this team.

One fundamental mistake in judging batsman is we attribute everything on defensive as technically sound, which is not the case - may be 10%. Ability to make 360 shots on either feet, timing, placement, shot selection are other 40% of batting; but rest 50% at least is batting intelligence. Imagine Sehwag has over 8K Test runs at almost 50 & 80 SR.

Azhar is a carbon copy of his mentor even philosophically - Misbah would have set Wahab even above Sohail as he is senior, deserves respect.

He was out hooking a short ball. What does it have to with the pitch dude?

Well what its got to do is with is the positive attitude our genius PP"ers like to talk about, when a batsman gets out playing a shot he looks something like what Rizwan looked

This rain break is a blessing for PAK.

Time to plan ahead. Just need Amir to stick around.

Set small targets, achieve them and then move onwards.

Any lead below 50 will be disappointing for NZ after having PAK at 76-5

That wasn't positive. That was PATHETIC like Waqar said on commentary. The first ball you face in test cricket and you hook it straight to the fielder. I'm sorry but I don't want this kind of "positive" attitude.

We were actually 51-5

Theres a thing called mind or cricketing brain, amin doesn't have that. He just times the ball well, Not even close to MoYo. Exactly just like sehwag has success in test cricket without a proper technique. We must not lick the technique. He hasn't performed good in QA trophy or any other domestic tournaments not even in t20 cups. He plays in islamabad/rwp and i have seen him live several times. Just if a thing looks good, doesn't mean it really is :)

It isn't summer yet. It starts on Thursday.

Don't think Babar,Hasan Ali,Sharjeel,Rizwan, Imad, would all be regulars in the odi side if Azhar was a carbon copy of Misbah.

Don't see Azhar making the decision on the batting line up after one game.

What i dont understand is why Sarfraz ahmed is always in a hurry. Whether its drop and run or shot selection, its fine to aggressive but not all the time, you need to read the situation and play accordingly. No need to be fishing outside off-stump all the time. Test cricket is all about patience and staying on the wicket. Fight the storm out and then sail smoothly. He needs to improve his shot selection and try to formalise his batting according to the format he is playing. Pakistan cannot afford his poor shot selection at such important moment of the game. With bowl gone old it was perfect time to get 100s and put Pakistan back in the game.

Babar needs to be a little aggressive now, I dont think amir will stay for a while facing wagner so Pak must get u50 first

Babar Azam what a player! He's shown the way to the so called seniors like Azhar and Yoounis how to bat. He's all the makings of an all time great.

Which PAK youngster has that Cricketing brain? PAK players don't develop from their FC system, it was never the case. The generation of 70s & 80s were skilled youngsters - developed into professionals in Counties, which is not the option for current lot. I can tell you that Zaheer Abbas was a bigger "-*****-" than Umar Akmal - impressed in his 1st UK tour & played 15 years with Procter at Gloster - ended up with 104 First Class hundreds, including 4 matches with a double & a 150 in 2 innings..

These players won't learn anything even close to what our boys learn about mental aspect of cricket in Dhaka League, after playing 20 years in Quaid E Azam style - they have to learn it within the national setup. Imagine the 1st ball shot by Rizwan yesterday - this is his 9th season in FC cricket!!!!!!!!!! (Obviously he is 24, hence debuted at 15 in FC, Aaquib also debuted in Test at 16...). Babar is lucky that, he has got Arthur to guide him - put Amin with same set-up for a year, he'll be several times better than what MoHa couldn't in 20 years.

Wahab has been a failure in this match 0 with the bat and couldn't take more than 1 wicket.

I can't believe Mickey allows Wahab to bat so high. He should always bat at 11.

Wahab should be told to go out and have a wack. He is good one playing aggressively. Sohail UUR Khan surprised me today...Jo main Bolta hon woh main karta hon, aur nahi bolta woh main kabhi nahi karta...👍😄

Relax puttar ji. You comparing newbie to a Legend and then a fine fighter like Azhar. But no doubt babar is the future, hopefully he will improve day by day.👍

Exactly, Wahab should simply try and swing his bat when he comes to the crease.

^^ just to add - limitation of imagination in WY/Misbah set up is brutally exposed with the treatment of Amin.

PAK struggled for 5+ years to find a seem bowling batting all-rounder & often played with 11 right handres. This guy Amin could have been developed into a decent 4th seemer, brilliant fielder & a left-handed top order. His FC average is better than most in last 5 years, he has won at least 2 best fielder awards in domestic & if I am not wrong, was MoS in some List A tournament in 2011 or 2012. The amount of chance Asad & Ahmed got in last 6/7 years; even half of that could have been enough.

Remember the Aussies said the same thing about UAkmal after his 100 vs NZ. They said he is the combo of Miamdad and Tendulkar. Don't overhype Azam please.

Amin is a decent batsmen. I like the look of him when he broke into the scene in 2010. But i believe its the captain who needs to spot talent and then back them up. He will get his chance hopefully in future. Inzamam so far made good calls.

That is more to do with slipping to 9th rank than anything else - making Azhar ODI Captain is the biggest legacy of the philosophy itself, that too bringing from ODI wilderness for about 2 years.

Batting order of Wahab I am not sure, but if you have played club cricket, you should know that, there is a dressing room culture even in small clubs - players even sit on same chair in pavilion everyday. PAK's dressing room culture is that don't change anything & don't challenge status co.

It's been there - Asad played 40+ ODI at 25/60 stats; Azhar is the ODI Captain, MoHa made a come back after a career of 60 ODI with 18/58 stats, Ahmed played all 3 formats for PAK & opened in WC after playing the technically most sound T20 innings ever scoring 17 (35); Zufli had a nice trip in UK, Tanvir in SAF, PCB so far has spent over $35K to fix Ajmal (that excluding TA/DA & Air ticket), .............. I can go on.
