Looks like he is very good off side player, gets tangle on leg stump.

They should keep Rutherford exclusively for tests. How or Fulton can open in ODI. Fulton anyway has a better ODI record.

yeh, looks very flat. Looks like Groundsmen want 5 days test. Will be sad to see this test gets no result (despite first day being washed out), seeing clear chance for NZ.

I think they have tried to produce a fairly quick bouncy wicket with a green tinge here but its never really worked. So they just stick to what they know gives a fairly even game.

Large parts of NZ are actually in a drought currently so there should be runs on offer throughout the country. There was some ridiculous scores this week in the NZ List A competition.

So far a poor start on the bowling end too. Some very good deliveries, and some average ones.

Quite rare for a left hander. Blasts drives through the covers and straight but can't play off his legs.

He scores at a quick rate even in the longer forms.

Cmoon NZ. Around 30 odd overs remaining today. Time to shine.

Rutherford looks good! It's kind helpful to have to have a poor legside game.. he won't be playing too many cross-bat shots.

Yeah, pitch is fine. It actually seems to have quite good bounce and the seamers are getting just enough help, as they should on day 1. Just a normal, decent cricket wicket with a bit of bounce.

Quicks will enjoy bowling to him in many parts of the world.

Very impressed by what NZ have achieved, expected the opposite to happen. Winning a test against England will give them a lot of confidence.

Fulton digging a big hole here. Hope rest of the NZ bats don't fall into it by the time he's done with it.

Rutherford will struggle against the inswinger from the right arm fast bowlers unless he develops his leg side game.

Fulton looking better.

Hopefully NZ will be able to just bat once and give England a target to chase.

Good work by Fulton here. He stuck it out during that rough patch and is now looking a bit more confident.

Hes seems ok against the fuller ones. Just that thigh pad length he can't seem to cash in on which is a shame because thats a bad ball.

Just hit a flick down leg side. :)

He middles many balls. I think his footwork is funny that's why looks weird even blocking balls on leg side. His front foot is not moving forward much when ball is pitched leg, so looks like hard time leaning or shifting him to play any shot on leg side. Also, not wristy, as expected.

Anyway, just hit a six! Doing very well, nevertheless.

Fulton looks like brilliant player for on side. While Rutherford is champ on off side.

Lmao that six landed directly on top of of some English fans head. Wasn't paying attention.

These two need to be sensible , goo opportunity here to get big score , should not throw it away.

A bit rich considering your current batting line up

I'm not having a go at him

If a bloke doesn't have a leg side game then he will be targeted.

That said Steve Waugh succeeded without it.

NZ better not throw this away after this good start! Kane, Taylor, McC, Watling, who is in form ... all can bat.

Great 50 on debut by Rutherford. Has showed he can play on the leg side just fine btw.

We will never be the best side in cricket but you can't just show up expecting to beat NZ. We will make you pay.

100 up for Newzealand without a losing a wicket , trail by only 67 now.

Well played so far NZ, look on course to crush England in this match.

England don't deserve to win this at any rate, judging from what I've seen today.

We cannot write of Eng here, they will bat better in the second innings. NZ really need a big lead 200 plus to put them under pressure.

My my, what do we have here? :D

New Zealand are PWNING the Poms! Victory by innings?

Looks like its gonna be a closely contested Ashes :yk

IMO NZ has to be the team that's gearing up the best for the WC. The amount of youth they have getting experience now will pay off.
