Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan lashed out at political opponents, reassuring his supporters that he stands opposed to those who are "secular" or "non-believing".

He was addressing a gathering of supporters on Saturday in Saroba, Punjab.

"Some political parties criticise me for raising my voice for the principles of Islam. If you are proud of being secular; of being non-believers, then I am proud of to be pro-Islam," he remarked, inviting a round of applause from his supporters.

"I will also support all those people who, in light of their religion (Islam), are wrongly criticised or accused," he added.

Is Nisar for real? When did 'Secularism' become 'Anti-Islam'? It is good to see that some secular voices are being raised in the country albeit a massive minority for now. As for Nisar, he needs to realise that we're not Saudi Arabia and never will be, because if we do become them then it'll be end of the state as well. Secularism is logical and the future.

Why would Nisar feel the need to say this to his supporters if this wasn't a common view among his supporters? He obviously said it because he knew they will like it. Nooras live in their own bubble just like princess Maryam.

Which political parties? All political parties in Pakistan are Islamist to some degree so I fail to see which party he's referring to. The only mainstream party that even bothers to offer a contrarian viewpoint is PPP who only go so far as to condemn explicitly extremist legislation as "against the spirit of Islam". Pakistani Islamists have a long tradition of presenting their worst excesses as some glorious struggle against secular and liberal forces which don't actually exist because Islamism is probably the one issue in Pakistan where there are hardly any partisan differences between the various political parties, both mainstream and fringe. There's a reason laws like blasphemy, Ehtram e Ramzan and other similar laws concerning religion are the only laws that are religiously (pun intended) enforced in a country with an otherwise ineffective law enforcement machinery.

In a country where those wit seculars number in the low hundreds of thousands out of a population north of 200 million and have virtually zero public support or political representation, the idea of Islamists being embroiled in some sort of glorious struggle against a secular behemoth, fighting tooth and nail to preserve the integrity of Islam, is laughable. They say if you want to find out who rules you, find out who you can't criticize and apart from the army, the only thing you can't criticize in Pakistan without putting your life at risk is Islam so I don't see what they're "fighting" for or against when their ideology already has a complete monopoly on power in the country.

That actually made me laugh, if Nisar with these comments doesn't belong to Zia/Nawaz party then only other options are JI or JUIF. Actually i thought Ch Nisar was one of the better ones amongst the group. Their leader Nawaz Sharif just last week said "Did you see what were PTI women doing in their jalsa? Look at our women standing in the corner" Now this describes the whole party very well.

Can you read Urdu ? Many Pakistani Newspapers on daily basis publish articles the crux of which is that A muslim cannot be liberal or secular and secularism is Unislamic. Ummat News leads from front in this.


Even if you follow social media than majority has this opinion. Atleast when in Opposition Ppp promotes secular values but when they are government and they want JUI or JI to be there ally than it all changes once again.


If you can read urdu than read an article " Liberal = Nafs k Ghulaam " and see the zehar sold to people under this heading.

Well this is what the forum is all about, we all agree on some things and disagree on others. Perhaps we should all stay away from these forums so as not to upset anyone else if the subject is too sensitive.
