Pakistan (306/5) defeat West Indies (305/8) by 5 wickets in the 1st ODI

Joseph has bowled really well...not sure whtly shadoo was slogging again.we never make it simple still with 3 sixes this is not over

Khushdil will bring it home, boy do Pak like to make it exciting at the end when they could have taken an easier path.

why would he do that, all he had to do was take a single, your not a big hitter shadab, khushdil is the hitter, take the single, and let him do the magic

I haven't seen a single ball due to internet issues but the commentary here has been brilliant :))

Now that is how you finish a chase. Sensational hitting from Pak!

Khusdil saves pakistan from embarrassment, pretty poor run chase for 90% of the teams inns.

HappyHeart proves that the his innings against the Aussies was not a one off

Nawaz with a massive six to finish it off.

A good win with a bit of a shaky chase at the end.

Once again, Khushdil saves Pak from messed up run chase. Ordinary stuff from all the batsmen, including Babar.

Pakistan win :) good stuff boys. try to build on that momentum for the second game. Really good game by Windies as well

Nawaz should come ahead of shadab. He played only a few but looked in great touch.

This is the first time Pakistan has scored 300 in an ODI run chase against West Indies...

Khushdil has poor technique but when he connects it, he really butchers it like nobodies business.

Nearly messed it up.

Horrible period between the 27th and 34th over:

Pakistan only scored 39 runs between the 27th & 34th over with no boundaries:

27th over 6 runs
28th over 5 runs
29th over 4 runs
30th over 2 runs
31st over 6 runs
32nd over 4 runs
33rd over 5 runs
34th over 7 runs

Congratulations.. looked convincing in the end thanks to khushdil.. but was close due to terrible middleovers.

Never seen this before!

Babar gifting the MOM to Khushdhil!

Well deserved imo

Nic Pooran: Proud of the guys. It was really hot today. Pakistan are a world class team. Babar showed his class. Proud of the guys as they gave their all today. We tried to swing the ball up front. There was no swing. Then we tried to bowl into the pitch. The wicket was pretty good even in the night. We are a young team and a young bowling line up. We can only go forward. Hope is one of the best batters in this format.

Khushdil Shah: The situation I was in, I tried to take it deep. I have been working on my hitting for the last two years. The coaching camp in the last 10-12 days has helped him. The coaches have helped me during this time. I was waiting for the balls to come to into my zone.

Babar Azam has given away his Man of the Match award to Khushdil Shah.

The whole team inns up until 47th inns waz pretty poor. Judging from Aussies series (1st ODI) and here our batsmen refuse to change their poor starts or strike rotation. This will be exposed against better teams.

Babar Azam:

I always try to continue my game and work on my strengths. There was a little bit of a problem during the calling when I was batting with Imam. But it got better as the partnership moved on. The wicket was a little double-paced and wasn't that easy. There was heat but that is not an excuse. Credit to the bowlers. Shadab came back and did well. The standards he sets on the field is brilliant as well. Cricket is changing. We have to plan and play with a lot of intensity. Outstanding finish from Khushdil. You have to take it deep so that there is less pressure on the finishers.

I thought babar played really well except the stupid shot at the end. It was a good innings.

I guess. But I'm just sick of watching such innings which only set up the game and not finish it. Leaving someone else to do the finishing job is becoming too common in this team. Khushdil saved you against Aussies and he did it again vs WI.

Once you are in, finish the game off. Imam and Rizwan's innings were both unacceptable. Striking under a 100 when chasing 300+ and then getting out.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam became the first batter to knock three successive one-day international hundreds twice as he anchored a five-wicket win over the West Indies in Multan on Wednesday.

Ranked number one batter in both limited overs formats, Azam cracked a brilliant 107-ball 103 with nine boundaries to help Pakistan overhaul a tough 306-run target in 49.2 overs.

Opener Shai Hope knocked 134-ball 127 for his 12th one-day international century to help the West Indies post an impressive 305-8 -- their highest against Pakistan in Pakistan.

The win gives Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the three match series and 10 crucial points in the ODI Super League, a qualification process for 2023 World Cup (50 overs) to be hosted by India

WI should admonish themselves, this was not an easy wicket to bat on, the ball was stopping and not coming on to the bat to make it easy for stroke play. Plus the heat and humidity made running b/w the wickets tougher. You have to be a very poor bowling and fielding unit to be unable to defend a 300 plus score in such conditions.

Pooran showed his inexperience as skipper - got his bowling changes and field settings all wrong towards the end of the innings.

He and his bowlers should have known where to bowl to Khushdil - instead they fed him exactly what he wanted.

Every man and their dog knows to ball wide to Khushdil

Good game of cricket credit to West Indies for fighting all the way.

Babar Azam was at his brilliant best as Khushdil Shah's late cameo ensured Pakistan did enough to sneak past Shai Hope and the West Indies in Multan.

Babar breaks more records

Babar Azam continues to make a mockery of opposition bowlers and the Pakistan captain was at it again in Multan as he helped himself to yet another ODI century.

It was Babar's third century on the trot and it also meant he becomes the first player in the history of ODI cricket to score three consecutive centuries on two separate occasions.

If that's not enough then consider the fact that Babar's innings also saw him become the quickest player to notch 17 ODI centuries and the fastest to complete 1,000 ODI runs as captain.

Not bad for a 27-year-old who is seemingly still on the improve and recently targeted becoming the first player to be ranked No.1 in all three formats of the game.

Shai gives West Indies Hope

Babar wasn't the only player to reach three figures in Multan, with West Indies opener Shai Hope scoring his 12th ODI century with a stylish 127 that helped the Caribbean side post a highly competitive score of 305/8.

While Hope's innings is unlikely to receive the same amount of plaudits as Babar's, it was a knock of similar class and really laid the platform for West Indies' big total.

Hope smashed 15 fours and one massive six during his 134-delivery stay, with his 154-run stand with No.3 Shamarh Brooks a particular highlight.

Stocks rising for Khushdil Shah

It looked like Pakistan's run chase was going to prove futile when Babar and Mohammad Rizwan were dismissed in quick succession, but finisher Khushdil Shah had other ideas.

The left-hander smashed four sixes and scored an unbeaten 41 during the closing stages of the chase to ensure Pakistan drew first blood in the three-match series.

It was only Khushdil's fifth ODI, but he is making a name for himself as a reliable closer after he performed a similar role with aplomb against Australia in March.

Great innings from Imam and Babar

extremly poor and selfish from Riziwan (huge huge fan of his but this was def a low)

Khushdil did well but his high backlift wont let him work well with extreme pace .... but lets see.. better than asif (both shldnt b there but...)

wats the point of playing Harris..? batting was seriously weak ... if 2 of top 3 failed, then we have serious problems

not sure why we cant try Shaan Massod in middle order... he isnt the best for tht but if a player can go from middle order to opener ( Saeed Anwar, Rohit Sharma) then why cant an opener be good down the order?

just goes on to show what Pakistan missed in the last decade playing at home is such a luxury Babar scoring 100s for fun 17 tons in 86 games

Pakistan where ahead of west Indies when Pakistan was batting.

I think they were protecting Haris even though I thought they would have sent him out to bat.

Shan is similar to Babar,Rizwan no need of shan in odis in the middle order.
