What's new

Pakistan [306/7d & 195/4] beat CSA Invitation XI [318/7d & 182/7d] by 6 wickets in tour match

ah...the days when Wasim and Waqar would take 15 wickets between them in side matches which Pakistan would win with an innings...

Now it's all about getting lengths right - what does that even mean? You know you have got your length right when you are getting batsmen out I'd think.

I feel grouping in team and this guy doesn't like Sarfi bossing around. I think this is Sarfi's last series as a captain.

Pakistan’s bowlers got a good workout on the first day of their three-day tour game against a young Cricket South Africa (CSA) Invitational XI in Benoni on Wednesday.

With the first Test against the Proteas starting on Boxing Day, the Pakistan bowlers got good miles in their legs as the home side reached 318/7 before declaring their innings late in the day.

The touring team then went to stumps on two without loss after three overs with openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman getting to the close without any alarms.

CSA Invitational XI captain Marques Ackerman had earlier won the toss and elected to bat first with the home side given a good start by openers Neil Brand and Joshua Richards, who added 87 for the first wicket.

Brand eventually fell lbw to left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir while Faheem Ashraf got rid of Tshepang Dithole (1).

Matthew Breetzke made his way to 24 before he fell victim to the left-arm spin of Haris Sohail with Richards falling two runs short of his century when part-time spinner Azhar Ali snapped him up.

At 203/4, the home side, who were made up of promising young players on the fringes of their domestic franchise teams, could easily have folded but Ackerman proceeded to hit a ton, ending on 103 not out before the declaration.

Pakistan’s four main seamers all got through a decent amount of work with Amir taking 1-87 in 13.3 overs while Shaheen Afridi went wicketless in his 13 overs.

Hasan Ali took 1/50 in 16 overs and Faheem got through 12 overs taking 2/45.

Mohammad Abbas and Yasir Shah did not bowl in the first innings of the game but might still get some overs under the belt in the second innings if they need to.

This is Pakistan’s only warm-up game before the three-match Test series against the Proteas.

It wasn't that good a work out.
30 overs were bowled by our main bats, which is effectively a waste of time

Some of the tour strategies are already falling apart.

It’s obvious that the plan was for Shadab to play the First and Third Tests ahead of Yasir, but he’s unfit.

So Pakistan now desperately needs an additional all-rounder (ahead of Faheem batting at 8), and there isn’t one.

The tail is too long if Faheem is promoted to 7, because that would bring in Hasan Ali who has neglected his batting and can’t bat above Number 10.

Hammad Azam or Aamer Yamin should have been in this squad. And Ehsan Adil whose height was badly missed yesterday.

According to chief selector everyone will be fit before the first Test, still I think Pakistan are not going to play Shadab, after not playing 5 Day cricket for so long and Yasir performing well in recent times.

This would be the team:

Azhar Ali
Fakhar Zaman
Haris Sohail
Asad Shafiq
Babar Azam
Sarfraz Ahmed
Faheem Ashraf
Mohammad Amir
Yasir Shah
Hasan Ali
Mohammad Abbas

Lol, do you guys seriously think the players are playing to win this "match"? These games are glorified net sessions, don't take the stats seriously, please.

Hope we do not get any injuries though. And why is Yasir Shah not in South Africa already? He needs to get used to the conditions the most.
We saw in Australia that Yasir Shah is not selectable in these conditions - his only hope should have been the middle Test in Cape Town.

The problem is that a Test tour of South Africa requires at least six quick bowlers (Plus Faheem).

This squad only has four quicks of whom one is injured.

Inzamam has sent a very unbalanced squad.

Who has told you that Hammad Azam and Aamer Yamin can last against South Africa's attack ?

Most important thing is that bowlers get overs under their belt and the batters get time in the middle.

Do you rate Umar Amin as a batsman? He would have been handy as a part time medium pace option...

I don't think he's good enough as a batsman and he's definitely nowhere near good enough even as a part time bowling option.

Big day for Pakistan batters - lets hope some get good runs today

Chief selector, Inzamam Ul Haq said while talking to media on Wednesday that Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan are fully fit, whereas, the pace sensation Mohammad Abbas will be fit for the opening Test against South Africa.

Haq said that all 16 players cannot play a practice game, which is why the trio did not play against the South Africa XI ahead of the three-match Test series.

“Doctors said Abbas is 50 percent fit at the moment, give him rest to give him full fitness by the start of the first Test,” said Inzamam Ul Haq. “Shadab and Fakhar were rested against New Zealand as a precautionary measure as doctors expressed injury concerns,” he added.

He expressed disappointment over the result of Test series against New Zealand, which Pakistan lost by 2-1, he hoped for a 3-0 clean sweep against the Kiwis in the home series.

However, he is hoping for a better show against South Africa in much-challenging conditions.

“Batsmen have realized their mistakes, which they will not repeat those against South Africa,” he said. “I hope they will perform better in the upcoming series.”

He believes Pakistan team has some talented batsmen in the squad, who can be beneficial for the team.

“Many players are touring South Africa for the first time,” he said. “Conditions are tough, but they should not take pressure.”

Pakistan will take on South Africa in the first Test of the series from December 26 at Centurian.

If it's really the case. Which I wouldn't be surprised (Since it has happened in the past). Is damaging our Cricket and our team will continue to downfall.

Imam ul Haq 23 OUT
I would honestly have Shan Masood in the team instead of Imam-ul-Haq

Shan masood is 30 of 28 with seven fours. Seems like his confidence is sky high and in the form of his life. Deserves to be in the playing xi.

Shan over imam should be a no brainer. Ideally Azhar should open but it wont happen.

Inzamam is probably very worried right now, and would probably be even happier than the opposition.😂

What if we have Shan at one drop and open with Fakhar and Azhar? Then Babar,Asad/saad, Sarfaraz

I don’t think Imam is in good enough form to be selected, but I don’t understand why Shadab isn’t playing.

My Test Eleven for the high altitude Tests would be:

1 Fakhar Zaman
2 Azhar Ali
3 Asad Shafiq
4 Haris Sohail
5 Babar Azam
6 Sarfraz Khan
7 Shadab Khan (mainly as a batsman)
8 Faheem Ashraf
9 Mohammad Amir
10 Shaheen Shah Afridi
11 Mohammad Abbas or Hasan Ali

Sarfaraz Ahmad**
Also Shadab Khan is NO WHERE NEAR a good allrounder. His batting is too weak.

Sorry.

The issue is that Pakistan needs 4 quicks plus a part-time spinner for the high altitude Tests where spin never works.

I can’t see who else can bat at 7 but also bowl good enough spin to bowl a team out in the fourth innings on a wearing pitch.

It doesn’t call for a Lyon or a Yasir or an Ashwin.

It calls for a Moeen Ali who can bat decently but also bowl whatever spin is required on Day 5.

SHAN IS Making Inzi to be panic Joey, a few good outings and imam career in odi will be in danger as well.

Tbh who has Imam even scored against in odis except bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
Just that first century against sri lanka
Hasn't face the wrath of the quicker bowlers yet.

I am surprised that nobody here is considering Rizwan for the 1st test. That guy is in supreme form nowadays, moreover, his inclusion as WK-Bat will release some burden from the sarfaraz..

This sa team has players all under the age of 25 and they are destroying pakistan rn how disappointing is that.

I just checked and it was ACTUALLY Haris Sohail who got out NOT Babar Azam.
I don't know why but i felt a bit happier because of that.
No offence to Haris tho

Pakistan 113/5
asad shafiq gone for a duck (0).
Babar and azhar currently batting.
So shameful that a c/d team is thrashing us😶😶😶
#JustPakistaniThings 😂

Pakistan is playing 8/9 batsmen, 40 overs we are still 5 down against U-23 SA team, who does not have single test player...

First wicket fell in 12th over, middle order still cannot bat, Asad Shafiq cannot nay ahead of Babar. He throws away his wicket far too often...

🤬🤬🤬

Oh my God.Some seriously awful stuff from Pakistani batsmen and this isn't even Steyn or Rabada they are facing.
This series might turn out even worse than I envisioned.

This pathetic batting lineup will ensure a whitewash no matter what our bowlers do.

I still feel Babar will get a 100 today tho
He made 60 odd against england before getting injured. That English tour could have made him a good player but unfortunately that injury came in the way.
Hopefully babar does good and establishes himself as a Test cricketer as well as an odi player and t20i player

Pathetic batting today. wont be shocked if pakistan get bowled out for under 100 a few times during test series.

Babar is averaging 58 this year in test. If we had decent tail, that would be 70+, he must come before Shafiq, that will allow us to have long partnership and pre mature collapses...

After English tour, Babar has gotten hang of test, he is improving by every series...Shafiq and Harris on the other hand are messing up a lot...

His average of 35 doesn't do him justice tbh. His previous failures should be forgotten and him improving from an average of 16.73 in 2017 alone to 59 in 2018 is VERY impressive. However, this tour of sa will truly define his ability.

A small bit of recovery here from Azhar & Babar, a partnership of 63 runs with Azhar batting on 50 and Babar on 31. Pakistan 175/5 .

Azhar and babar showing why they are pakistan's two best batsmen.
Even though the opposition isn't the strongest, after the collapse, these two have taken pakistan to a position where it should no longer be embarrassing

Partnership of 110* between Azhar and Babar..
Azhar 72*
Babar 55*

Pakistan 222/5.

Imam is so poor. At one point was 10 off 40 balls. A miserable tour awaits him thanks to his uncle the revolutionary.

Question is who will be worse - Imam in SA or Sami in Aus? lol

ThankGod Azhar and Babar helped us out of what would have been an extremely embarrassing situation.
And good on Azhar for retiring.Others need to get a feel of the wicket too.
I hope Babar plays well in the actual series too, have high hopes for him, inshaAllah.

IMO Shan should get a chance ahead of Imam.Even if he doesn't perform,it's not like Imam is,anyways.

I see haris failed again. Everyone talks about Azhar but nobody asks why Haris is still not kicking on?

As i said on this forum when babar was on 0 that i feel he is going to get his hundred today and it ACTUALLY came true.
What a batsman Babar azam is.
102 runs off 127 balls

Btw Azhar only retired so Sarfaraz could get a chance to bat.
