Pakistan [306/7d & 195/4] beat CSA Invitation XI [318/7d & 182/7d] by 6 wickets in tour match

Rizwan out to bat with only 12 runs remaining.

Sarfraz has to be most selfless player ever to play for Pakistan. He could have easily come before Fahim and Rizwan to get some batting practice and soft runs but opted to give others opportunity. D &G posters would counter this by claiming that he was hiding behind Fahim.

SA.A probably ruing their pre-mature declaration. They clearly fancied their chances given Pakistan's abysmal chasing record and collapse in the 1st innings.

Great win. I guess this warm up game has been useful as it has settled the opener problem and helped somwhat with the pace bowling issue. We know now Imam-ul-Haq will start and Amir will start too, as a result of their performancess in this match. It's worth noting that Amir's last performance in Tests was in England this year, and he done good there so he doesn't deserve hate based on Test form, yes in white ball cricket he has been pathetic.

NO...PP Experts knows better and Sarfi should be out of the team according to them.:misbah3

Now Sarfaraz is not a selfish player but this is probably not the best example of his nobility. This suited him as much as anyone else. With just 20 odd runs needed had he remained say 10,12 not out there would have been no praise for him.But had he gotten out for a 5 or 10,which is very probable given his current form,it would have garnered even more criticism for him.
But anyhow good desicion what ever the motive behind it was.Atleast we got to know that fahim might not be able to perform with the bat the way it was being expected.

It wasn't pre-mature at all. Any target above 180 is a tricky one.

Here Pak top order came to the party.

This was just a practice game but I hope it has given the team a confidence boost.Well chased in the 4th innings.Best of luck to Saifi and co.Hoping for a cracking test series ahead.

Not in white ball cricket only ODIs, his T20I record in last one year and ever since his comeback has been outstanding.

Last one year:

T20Is:

Avg 12.71 Eco 6.21

Tests:

Avg 18.3 Eco 2.33

It didn't seem a pre-mature descision when they declared and given Pakistan's record I tend to agree but surprisingly our batsmen proved that it actually was and they probably should have batted a bit more.

5 players out 14 have performed comparatively well.

Azhar, Babar, Amir, Imam and Haris.

Similar start like the NZ tour, where Pakistan played a very inferior XI team on Pakistan-like pitch and were completely BAMBOOZLED by Kiwi opposition in the first ODI eventually losing the series 0-5 without winning a single match.

Centurion is a better pitch than Cape Town, offers bounce in first 2 days. CSA will instruct their curators to make it bowler-friendly for a longer period of time as possible.

Amir needs to take wickets with the old bowl. Shaheen and Hasan need to do well also. Mickey Arthur vetoed exclude Mir Hamza in favor of Amir. This will be a costly tactical mistake if Amir remains the same dull bowler.
Depends on Fakhar Zaman and Pakistan's consistent batters Shadab Khan and Fahim to post totals good enough to challenge opposition.

This is more or less the team that'll compete with South Africa, rest are passengers. If a Haris or Babar performs thats a bonus apart nevertheless have no expectations.

Why are so many people asking this question about them declaring? In the long term, do you guys really think this SA A side care about this result, this match doesn't even have FC status for crying out loud. This was a great chance for some young up and coming SA players to face an international side, of course they'll want to milk it and let the batsmen bat against international bowlers and the bowlers bowl against international standard batsmen. This will be a great experience for them, so it's good they declared.

With the set batsman on the other end going well it was not pressure situation for him to mess up and he still needed the opportunity to boost his self ego to hit few runs but he most certainly did it to give others the opportunity. I have seen him do this numerous time when there had been easy runs to take. Anyway moving on from him good win for Pak team and many palyers had good run to practice.

Did you miss Pakistan tour of England and Ireland?

Amir took plenty of wickets with the old ball and has been averaging 18 this year with the ball, when was he a dull bowler?

Shadab will not play the first match and most probably Faheem too after this warm-up game.

Yep, he was Man of the series in the NZ series we won 2-1 and was good against WI, SL and in the tri-series, but it's fair enough to drop him in T20I's based on ODI form as they tend to go hand in hand but Test cricket is a different ball game altogether

In terms of status it is common knowledge it does not matter.Nonetheless you can not deny that they must have been eyeing a win, along with the experience, because it definitely matters in terms of confidence and had they been able to defeat an international side, even in a practice match it would have been a great plus for them in terms of boosting their conviction personally. Not to mention the immense pressure an A side would have created on Pakistan, going on into an significant, pivotal series. Therefore quite apart from gaining experience,a victory would have definitely been part of the strategy.

Half-centuries by Haris Sohail and Imam-ul-Haq added to three wickets from Mohammad Amir helped Pakistan complete a good all-round win on the final day of their three-day warm-up fixture against a South Africa Invitation XI in Benoni on Friday.

The tourists won by six-wickets late on day three, completing their preparations for the three-match Castle Lager Test series starting against the Standard Bank Proteas in Centurion next week.

Amir first bagged three for 35 in 12 overs as the hosts declared on 182 for seven at Willowmoore Park.

Neil Brand top-scored for the home side with 71 (145 balls, 6 fours, 1 six), while there were useful 30s from captain Marques Ackerman (32) and Onke Nyaku (37).

That enabled the South Africans to set a target of 195 in around 50 overs.

The Pakistanis were rarely troubled in their chase thanks to the anchoring innings played by Imam-ul-Haq. The opener made 66 (93 balls, 10 fours) as he shared in a first-wicket stand of 42 with Shan Masood, who made 24, before Fakhar Zaman followed soon after for 17, the men to strike being Thandolwethu Mnyaka (1/20) and Kyle Simmonds (2/79).

But Imam-ul-Haq added 96 with top-scorer Sohail for the third wicket, and even though he fell not long after, a brisk and unbeaten 73 (87 balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes) by the latter helped the touring side reach their target in 40.2 overs.

No, results of practice games don't mean much, like I have said before, it's just a chance to get used to the conditions, I don't think either team cares too much about the result. And also, if SA A had carried on batting it probably would have finished more likely a draw, it wouldn't boost the conviction of these players, it already has benefitted the young players already as now they have played against international players, that can only improve you as a player.

Shadab will not play the first match and most probably Faheem too after this warm-up game.

Thanx man I never knew
South Africa is same as Ireland or even England. Ireland pitch must be so identical to RSA also.

If Shadab and Faheem don't play, then our team scoring anything beyond 150 total will be something to celebrate. Would be pretty hilariou to see the dance by our players once the bouncers come their way.

look like he's done a selfish job.. he didn't give a proper chance to Rizwan who can threaten his place...

I didn't know we can judge players on hypothesis, Amir never played Test cricket in South Africa before, How can you only ask him to take wickets when he has already taken wickets this year outperforming every bowler except Abbas in that series.

In this warm-up game in South Africa all the pacers Faheem, Hasan and Shaheen combined have taken the same wickets as Amir, How is that a tactical blunder by Mickey Arthur dropping a trundler like Mir Hamza? AFAIK England and Ireland pitches are more similar to South Africa than of UAE.

Well, the coward is the only one who will actually get wickets. Apart from Abbas who also has a chance.

Please. The other two are proven wicket-takers. The coward can keep his back of a length bowling on the bench. Until he starts attacking the stumps, there's no point playing him.

Already called it months ago. First they ask you why did you do it, then they ask you how did you do it.

Warm up is over. Time to take revenge for 2013.

BookerT: Dale Steyn, we comin for you ____.
