Pakistan [320/7] defeat South Africa [292] by 28 runs in the 3rd ODI to win the series 2-1

Without Hassan Ali's batting today, Pakistan would have struggled to reach 280-285 and SA could have been favorites from thereon.

Time for Pakistan to play Hasan as 4th seamer at 7 and play Hasnain, Haris, Shaheen and Qadir as the main bowlers?

Pak middle order batting is too mediocre to have such poor batting depth. Shaheen, Hasnain and Rauf cant do anything with the bat.

Most players, even some tail Enders, will put away a length ball in today's game

Good for SA’s NRR in the One day league table.

Still a good series for South Africa imo. Almost won first match out of nowhere.
They have found high quality top order batsmen in janneman and Verreyene

And Miller is back in form.

SAF could've lost this series 0-3. There's a few promising individuals, but they really ought to be beating all the Asian teams except India in a home ODI series.

He looks out of rhythm as well.

Pace is down, runup lacks energy. Fitness issue probably.

Coming off Covid. Fatigue and tiredness is a common symptom. Hopefully if he keeps his nutrition good he will be okay in the coming days, months.

I think credit to Pakistan as well, you guys have been playing pretty good ODI cricket since the World Cup and have played really good cricket here . The recent test success has also boosted the confidence of the players.

30 off 6 balls..

I think it is a same equation. . Pak required 30 runs in 6 balls in last match

Hasan Ali bowling filth today. Hasnain may have bowled better, and he can also hit few. Hasan Ali needs more game time.

Nah rest him for Tabish, he's got bags of cricket to come and would want him fighting fit for the WI tour. Mixing it up or resting a player here or there is not a bad thing.

Too much rest doesn't suit him. Have seen it in England and now in SA.

It has taken 3 games for him to open up his body.

Hasan was lucky to get that wicket of Andile..rubbish bowl on the legside but great catch by Sarfaraz

A great achievement from pakistan hats off to south africa for a great effort

Pakistan win their second ODI series in South Africa. Been a really good performance, and with a better middle order combination it really could've been 3-0.

Enjoyable series overall.

Good win for Pak and Babar as captain. Winning ODI series in SA isnt a very easy task especially when one looks at SA’s ODI series records since 2015.

Congrats everybody it is a big acheivement no doubt dont want to be negative but in three matches only babs and fakhar scored nobody else did anything

Those two hits by tailender got Shaheen to bowl with fire. Well done Pak team, continue to do well. Beat SA at home in T20s and Tests and now ODIs in SA.

Imam and Rizwan(first match) also scored, and with fragile middle order that was expected.

Misbah as captain won a series against SA in SA and now as Coach aswell

Mashallah

this Pakistan LOI team looks invincible

We barely beat a depleted South African side, I don't think invincibles is the right title.

It would be foolish to think that this team can compete with the world's best.

Agreed, a 3-0 sweep would have earned the team a lot more respect from me.

Middle order woes are higher than ever, it is quite clear that since the absence of Haris Sohail, nobody has stood up to claim the no.4 slot.

Hopefully Wasim sees this and realizes that Haris Sohail, despite not being the fittest of players, has the ability to bat well in the middle order. His added bowling makes him a utility player in my eyes.

Saud didnt play.

We are also depleted. No Haris, Hafeez or Imad.

Hafeez retired, Haris and Imad were dropped.

Depleted means that major players were missing and there was a chance they could have stayed if an injury or other commitments didn't pull up.

Imad and Haris were dropped, so in reality, we weren't depleted at all, we went in with all the options available to select which included Haris and Imad, but we didn't select them.

Hasan in for Faheem as loi all rounder?

It may sound harsh, but Haris has performed on the international stage, not the domestic stage.

I'd take international performances over our poor domestic system any day.

Saud shakeel is as good as haris in terms of stroke making and is a much better fielder

Half centuries by Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne and Andile Phehlukwayo were not enough as a much-changed Proteas fell to a 28-run defeat to Pakistan in their Betway One-Day International series-decider at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday.

There was also an impressive three-wicket haul from Keshav Maharaj – although all their efforts were in vain as the tourists clinched the key result that secured them a 2-1 scoreline in the three-match sequence.

In another high-scoring affair, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, but most of their bowlers struggled as the visitors amassed 320 for seven, which was led by Fakhar Zaman’s second consecutive century after he made 101 (104 balls, 9 fours, 3 sixes).

There were also important contributions from captain Babar Azam (94 off 82 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) and Imam-ul-Haq (57 off 73 balls, 3 fours), together with a devastating unbeaten 32 off 11 balls by Hasan Ali that proved to be a real turning point of the game.

In reply Malan lead the hosts well out of the blocks with 70 off 81 balls (9 fours), but regular wickets at the other end kept Mark Boucher’s side under the pump.

Verreynne (62 off 53 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes) and Phehlukwayo (54 off 61 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) did their best to keep the South Africans in the hunt with a century stand, but once they fell Pakistan closed out victory, and subsequently won their first away ODI series against a top-seven team since 2013 when they also beat the Proteas.

The home side did enter the match without most of their regulars - Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi had to leave early for the IPL and Rassie van der Dussen missed out due to injury. Tabraiz Shamsi was also replaced by Keshav Maharaj meaning there were only four players in the XI who did duty in the Pink ODI win on Sunday.

Pakistan capitalised fully on the changes by making a strong impression with the bat from the get-go, reaching 206 for one at one stage thanks to the top three of Fakhar, Imam and Babar.

However, the South Africans then had their moment, clawing things back exceptionally thanks to Maharaj (3/45) and Aiden Markram (2/48) to leave the Asian side on 257 for six with four overs to go.

But Hasan and Babar exploded emphatically at the death, clobbering 63 in the last four overs, including one Jon-Jon Smuts (1/67) set in which he conceded four sixes to the former, to help their side set a target of 321.

South Africa needed their openers to fire in order to stand a chance. But they critically lost Markram early for 18, with Smuts (17), Temba Bavuma (20) and Heinrich Klaasen (4) following.

That left the total on 140 for five, before hopes were then raised in a 103-run sixth-wicket stand between Verreynne and Phehlukwayo.

The pair reduced the equation to 72 from the final 39 balls, before falling in quick succession. And with them went South Africa’s chances as Mohammad Nawaz (3/34) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (3/58) ended with six wickets between them.

The Proteas were eventually bowled out for 292 with three deliveries to spare.

Congratulations but many thing 2 work on...
Death bowling and batting....
And strike improvement......
Also.....give chance 2 youngsters not...TTFS....Sarfraz is not the solution..
Sa may have lost the series but they r the real gainer....so many youngsters......

Bud, his last performed noteworthy performance was 2 years ago. Based on his recent form, he should be batting at #11.

I don't know what stats you're looking at, but his average in recent times at #4 has been quite excellent to say the least.

His world cup was good as well.

He is much better than anyone who has been given a chance at 4 for our team in recent times.

Pakistan has played a total of 6 ODIs since the 2019 WC. Of those 6, Haider batted at 4 twice, Rizwan 3 times, and Haris once. This is the perfect time to get someone like Saud who has a good amount of domestic experience and has a very similar game to Haris. It was unfortunate that Saud got injured but it's a good decision to try him out.

If Pak is going with either one spin bowling allrounder or Faheem at no 7, Hassan is a pretty solid option for no 8. So Hassan is more of a no 8 batsman than a no 7, he is a really good striker and can utilize last 2-4 overs decently on his day but, not someone who if required can bat more than 5-7 overs. Faheem has the potential to be that no 7 batsman and has the overall basics but, definitely need to start showing more growth in white ball cricket.

So Hassan at no 8 is a feasible option if required in my opinion and having someone like him at no 9 if combination allows would be a good luxury.

Not happy with this performance. Given the position we were in, we should have scored 370 plus. Being restricted to 320 after being 200/1 in 32 overs is unacceptable

I personally wouldn't debut Saud in the England ODI series.

That is a very important series, and we can't have liabilities on the pitch. It's also a 3-match series, so it's better to go with a reliable batting combination.

Plus, the same way Danish will be discarded after this performance, that too could happen if Saud doesn't click right away in the ODI team.

I think it's better for the team if Haris reclaims his original spot, at least for the England series which is quite important for the ICC World Cup Super League. If we can win a game or two there, it will help us greatly moving forward.

Saud should debut at home if anywhere, because those are tracks he is used to playing on.

Danish should stil get more series am not in favour of giving players 1 series and then getting dropped and i hope wasim picks danish again.

If haris is fit then yes i wouldn't mind if hes in the squad but if he isnt then saud should play he has enough experience in domestic and if he does perform well he can cement his place in the team.
