Pakistan (355/4) defeat South Africa (352/5) by 6 wickets in a historic chase to book spot in the final of Tri-Nation ODI series against New Zealand

Chasing 350+ is never easy, even at NCS Karachi, under light and during Feb dew. Besides, not sure why SAF took 3 spinners, then decided to bat first - may be all three are of "color", it'll help them to manage quota during more important games.

PAK is at per now (double after 30 overs, comes 364), but probably 1 wicket too many down. Still Riz is there and SAF will have to bowl quite few overs with spinners and medium pacers with wet ball. One of this pair has to get a 100 here.

Close end, but PAK might edge past today - still TT, Khushdil & SSA to come and this pair is playing well and SAF Bowling is below per.

PAK to make final (And they'll win it if they can win today).
Naseem's batting is more reliable than Shaheen's

Why will they win in final ?

Pakistan need to plan properly here , these two need to chalk out a plan and execute it with sense.

Still Enough batting left but both are playing according to RRR.

This is what Pakistan needed in Middle overs.

RRR is still under the control.

:kp
Exactly. This is where Pakistan lose all their runchases. By crumbling to spin the middle-overs. And they will need more of this in the CT too. Especially when they play India, who have a far superior spin-attack.

In the 3rd match of the Tri-Nation ODI Series between Pakistan and South Africa, Pakistan made a strong start to their chase of 352 runs, reaching 138/3 after 21 overs. This marked the first time in 20 years that Pakistan had scored more than 90 runs in the first 10 overs of an ODI match.

Why will they win in final ?
Home team, making final from the edge of elimination - you don't chase 350+ often in KO games. I believe PAK will fix few things in the Final, if they pass today - Babar is due a big one also.

Would be a brave man to call this game going any other way than a Pak win
I’m not so sure , there is only one somewhat reliable batsman left to come . I have zero confidence in Kushdil. However Rizwan and Agha are quite good at absorbing pressure , they just need to take it to the end . Run rate is an issue which would require risk taking

LOL
final is a long way, who score the big runs here. RRR is increasing.

Babar is a nothing player.

Then that adds to the batting depth - though I believe PAK ThinkTank will send SSA ahead of Naseem & rightly so. PAK should win this playing normal cricket. 8.17 for 19 overs isn't that daunting a task these days, particularly under dew.

Could happen. If Shaheen comes out swinging and even gets a quick 20 it would make a huge impact on the runchase. But Shaheen's batting is largely brainless so you can't expect much.

Salman used to be very weak against short bowl early on in his career. He has improved there.

One risk PAK might take is to send SSA or Naseem after next wicket, preserving last two batsmen. .. even 0 (1) doesn't change the situation much but 20-25 in 10-12 balls will be gold here.

You think HappyHeart is a batsman?!

Yeah, it wouldn't be a bad idea provided they come in with clear instructions and don't waste balls.

Been a while since we saw a pinch-hitter in an ODI runchase :kp

We rarely do that eventhough it makes sense. Only time I remember us doing it was elevating Nawaz against India (T20I) and that worked. I've heard that Imran and Wasim used to do that a lot.

Hopefully South Africa don't have to play Corbin Bosch in the tournament. He is absolute rubbish with the ball despite having some good pace.

So far this has been a good innings by both need to take it atleast to 300 can't rely on lower order

If NSK’s pitch is such a patta, what would kiwis do to us in the CT? Is the tri series final in Karachi or Lahore?

Reminds me a little of the chase vs aus in the WC where we fell away at the end chasing a big total. Last 10 will decide this.

We need solid opener with Fakhar.... Babar should bat at number 3
yes Babar should be batting at 3 in one of the squads playing warm-up games. That's his mental level and that's where he belongs. should be booted out from the national team forever. Umar Akmal was a far better player than Babar.

But was a far bigger tool than Babar

Pakistan well ahead of the Saffers at this stage...that's the way to bat in modern day ODI cricket...to stay ahead of the opposition score when chasing, even if it's a low score...

I hope inshallah we get over the line here. It will be a massive confidence boost for the players and fans.

Spinner should come early as fast bowlers seems useless because of dew...
Bad captaincy imo

Imran's floaters were Akram and AQadir. Also, he was the first man (not Arjuna) to use pinch hitter - but those days on 200 per games, someone hitting 23 of 23 as floating opener wasn't recognized as pinch hitter, but Salim Yousuf was first No. 7 to open in ODIs.
