now who the hell is this steyn guy getting the phainta :yk

each side gets a hundred overs.... He should try to give everyone a chance.

still 73 overs left, i think everyone will get a chance....
Guys who are likely to feature in the test match should get maximum practice, and one of shehzad and Shan is likely to debut in tests, so i dont think retiring out is an option for them...

Pakistan A 82/0 in 29 overs

Ahmed Shahzad on 46 from 85 balls
Shan Masood on 31 from 92 balls

Dale Steyn 9 overs, 2 Maidens, 36 Runs, 0 Wickets

To give chance to other batsmen and practice like the saffers did and pretty much everybody got a turn on there side and scored. Thus he should do the same.

Well they should have batted first then after winning the toss. Now our batsmen won't even get to bat properly. Shane on them for deciding to field first. Hope Amin doesn't get to bat.

It will be interesting to see if Shehzad will retire soon or carry on

Ahmed Shahzad on 46 from 85 balls
Shan Masood on 31 from 92 balls

Dale Steyn 9 overs, 2 Maidens, 36 Runs, 0 Wickets

Steyn is just getting overs under his belt and i doubt hes bowling at full pelt, The S.A bowlers will cause problems during the test series .

Good to fours.... but i hope we wont dish out such flat wickets in the tests.... We need to go for wins not draws.

Poor Imran Tahir ;)

32.6 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, no run

32.5 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, no run

32.4 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR

32.3 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR

32.2 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, 2 runs

32.1 Imran Tahir to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR

33.5
Peterson to Ahmed Shehzad, OUT
Ahmed Shehzad c Petersen b Peterson 66 (105b 10x4 0x6) SR: 62.85

Judging from the fact that Shehzad got caught and bowled, it looks like he played quite a solid innings, not a scratchy one....

I agree, Azhar Ali is already in the team! They need to send Maqsood and Shafiq as they are top contendors for other spots.

You see thats whats wrong. Nobody knows whether its a selection match or a practice match. If its a practice match then azhar and amin should bat to get practice against their bowlers or if its a selection match then asad and maqsood should bat so that they can get selected.... Way to make things more complicated. :najam

Might as well switch off cricinfo now that the ultimate tuckmaster Azhar Ali is here

Pakistan A 111/1 (36.1 ov)

Azhar Ali on 0 from 2 balls
Shan Masood on 40 from 112 balls

Imran Tahir in to the attack now

To be honest both Shehzad and Masood look like good prospects for test cricket, but looking at the current team I would go with Shehzad for that little bit of extra aggression because if you look at the team right now, the only player who plays aggresively is Adnan Akmal and he isn't even counted as a full batting option. This is why the team needs someone like Umar Akmal or even Sohaib Maqsood in the team.

I think they've squashed practise and selection into one game
This team should've purely been made of players not selected while the UAE game should've been practise for selected players....

you will see a completely different steyn , philander, Morki in first test

Glad to see our youngstar openers playing their natural aggressive game now they're no longer burdened with Misbah's negative mindset.

Agree. Watch in the actual test if Shehzad bats 100 balls he will not even get to 40 runs. You bat as captain tells you and coach.

It is interesting to note here, all the batsmen in this team (apart from Azhar to some extent) have a point to prove for their selection in the final squad.

Looks like only 3 or 4 of our batsmen will get a bat in this match. Because at 100 overs smith will bat again. Umar Amin is silly to put the Africans in. That's what smith wanted. Ultimately Amin won't get to bat properly in this match.

No idea why Amin sent in Azhar to bat when he will be in in the playing XI. Was he trying to protect his own spot either by not risking getting out cheaply or another competing batsman scoring runs i.e. Maqsood.

typical pakistani thought..

He wasn't caught and bowled bowler was Robin Peterson and catch taken by Alviro Petersen. Anyway you can play a scratchy innings and still have the same chance of being caught and bowled

so azhar can practise for the match maybe??

The was Shezad played that's called positive and attacking cricket. Run rate in even test cricket matters a lot these days and his was just perfect. I've never been impressed by Azhar Ali's run rate...He is too slow and during his batting he will allow bowlers like Sytn, Morkel and Philander to attack him...This is why we lost 2nd test in Zim at the first place. We don't need negative cricket... Be positive and attack them... I wish if Shezad will play test because he is NOT slogger. He playes attacking cricket, which is required these days in any form of cricket...Shan is good but again same problem as Azhar... too slow

You see set batsmen getting caught and bowled more often then someone struggling because someone struggling normally wouldn't try and hit it straight past the bowler, my mistake I thought he was caught and bowled lol.

Wow look at that Run Rate fall, sending Azhar was completely unideal, Sohaib Maqsood or even Umar Amin would have kept the momentum going. When Shehzad was at the crease, the run rate was accelerating steadily...

I agree, some people think test cricket is all about not getting out, but it is very important to keep a get run rate as well. Pakistan can't win this series if their run rate is under 3. Ahmed Shehzad played exactly the type of innings Pakistan needs. If Pakistan can form a steady opening partnership with a run rate around 3 and then get players like Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, Adnan Akmal to attack down the order with 80+ S/R, they could score some big runs.

Masood should declare after his fifty and give Shafiq a chance.

Shan Masood has retired after scoring his 50 and Faisal Iqbal comes in.

As well as deciding the who will open with Manzoor I think this match could also decide who will bat at 6. Umar Amin is already in the squad and Asad Shafiq has done well at that position barring the last series and it would be unfair to drop him after one bad series but he has to show form((hope he gets a proper chance to bat in this match). Umar Amin has the advantage of being left handed which is important as there isn't one in the batting lineup right now but if Shan is selected that could change things. Also Umar is seen as a future captain especially after his 50 over performances and can bowl medium pace which could be handy if we play 3 spinners. A good performance from him would book him the no. 6 spot if Shafiq fails and selection of Shehzad could help his chances even moreso.
Maqsood has an outside chance of playing the first test at 6 and would probably need a big score to be in contention and in spinning conditions, his offbreaks and legbreaks could be handy like Hafeez
