I would have absolutely loved to see Sameen Gul bowl for Pakistan along with Shaheen and Naseem. I believe Sameen has all the ingredients to be successful in these conditions. He is also more deserving than Imran Khan Sr. Sameen's FC stats are brilliant overall and this year.

Yeah miles ahead of Imran as a bowler. Imagine Misbah selecting a test fast bowling attack with a grand experience of 3 tests between them though :misbah

Azhar has been Pakistan's best Test opener since Anwar. Yes, he's a product of a not great Pakistani system. But when push comes to shove, he has massive patience and mental diligence. His career will be over in a few years, but one must give him credit for some memorable innings. A shame he could not have been more, he just never learned how to attack the ball.

That is beyond imagination. On merit Sameen deserves it more than anyone in Pakistan, apart from Naseem. He swings and seams it at about Hazlewood pace, is accurate and is tall.

400 should be a minimum considering you take smiths double ton out of the equation. The rest of the Australian batting is hit or miss.

History being made today - two timeless Tests being played...

Sorry just both these matches have been super boring to watch. Were Tests always like this or is it just a bad day of cricket?

The ball isn't doing much now. Pakistan have made it out of the toughest part of the innings, I just really hope they don't throw it way now. Australia will be desperate for wickets soon and will start the short ball barrage.

I think the strategy of the PakistanI team is to tire down the Aussie bowlers and our batsman can take advantage of this ,considering we will have good attacking players to come in the shape of babar ,ifthikhar, rizwan and even haris.

Idea might be right but God is it boring to watch. I've spent my time on my phone the entire match and haven't looked up to watch any of the match, it's so uneventful.

I want to see Shan take on the short ball

Interesting stat: Steve smiths last century at the gabba was against england, where he batted 9 hours at the crease!!

The Eng vs NZ has been boring, but that's just Rory Burns' batting in general. Should get better once the likes of Root and Stokes come out to bat.

Pakistan's game hasn't actually been that boring, it's been a good battle, and Pakistan's caution makes sense given their historical struggle in unfamiliar Australian conditions. England don't really have as much issue adjusting to New Zealand so their slow batting is just purely down to Burns and Sidley being snails

Hoping for a more eventful second session since the ball isn't really doing much now.

I think some people watch test cricket only to moan and complain, I mean there are literally infinite number of things that you could do instead of watching something that bores you.

Nothing is boring in Test cricket - even draw is a proper result here. Opening pair is building the platform and 201-4 after day 1 is perfect for Gabba.

I reckon the second session will be more eventful (hopefully in Pakistan's favour), but I can't watch cause I'm busy. Hoping for a good 3rd session though.

These 2 have started really well. Shan just doing his role and playing out the new ball , hasn't looked troubled either. Azhar has done really well as well. These 2 don't seem troubled in defense, should only attack the loose balls and make sure that when it is loose it goes to the boundary.

Test cricket is a game for the elite players. It filters out the fake players and the fake fans of the game.

Decent start this. Shan needs to up his S/R a bit, he is batting way too slow.

I’m loving this. Stick to WWE. It was made for your kind after all

Nicely played by Shan. Not fazed by the short one, still comfortable on the front foot after getting a short one.

A wicketless session at the Gabba on the first day, is a massive win for Pakistan. Don't care if they go at less than 2 RPO.

40 odd for no wicket.
That's a huge surprise, after waking up. I fully expected 40 odd for 3 or so.

Considering Pakistan's record in Australia, I don't care if they go at 0.5 RPO and draw the match, any points in Australia for the Championship are worth more than gold for Pakistan.

This has been a great start. Good bowling by the Aussies, and Azhar and Shaan up to the task, playing everything on merit.

With a good start, we should push for a win. The wicket doesn't have much in it for the bowlers so far, but batting first gives us an advantage at the Gabba.

First, I don't watch WWE.

Second, for a neutral a team scoring at less than 2 runs an over is BORING. As a Pakistani you may find it engrossing as someone who does not care for the result and just wants to be entertained, this is bad cricket.

Ball isn't doing much anymore, Azhar starting to drive through the line now. Finally got one in the gap!

Yes, I agree, just saying that people shouldn't be complaining about run rate.

Well you'll be glad to know that Burns is now gone and the England game should speed up a little

The openers have done their job brilliantly. It will be a lot easier for the middle order now.

And Azhar may very well not be done yet. If he's set for a big match, this would be the one to try and bat out the day for a century or more. Australia will eventually get frustrated and send down some bad balls.

Mickey really screwed up by moving Azhar away from the opening spot especially when he was doing so well there. Had him batting at 4 in SA  when really his game has always been suited to opening only.

Effective if not spectacular session of play. I am glued to the TV here enthralled by a determined performance by our openers. The pitch seems to be playing well here with no demons or anything to be concerned about. I feel Azhar is the key batsman for us who needs to play a big one here if Pak is to stand any chance of an unexpected win. We need to bat until the end of day two if we're to put any pressure on the Aussies. Shaan has been okay as well.

It's the right idea and the way to go if Pakistan are to win Tests in Aus, just isn't very good to watch. Although they will likely open up once they have solid base and have ground down their fast bowlers.

That's just one mistake in a long list of blunders.

Azhar's our best new ball batter, and when he's set, he scores big.
