That was the primary feature of Azhar's success last time around in Australia - waiting for bowlers to pitch it full enough for him to drive confidently in the V.

He meant to say the dark era has started, it was just his delusional autocorrect.

If being able to finally win Test matches, secure series wins starting from our home series means the dark era has 'started', then so be it.

To be honest pretty ordinary lengths overall from Aussie bowlers till now

It has literally been 5 overs into the first day and you are already thinking that we are "able to finally win test matches?"

Australia didn't review! That was probably a faint edge.

Pakistan - 16/0 after 6 overs.

Which is the risk of opening with Starc. Australia would probably have wanted to play Pattinson ahead of him.

Pattinson hits the good lengths straight away. Would have been a top test bowler till now if it wasnt for his back issues.

Not this one. To win this one would require creating history. Very unlikely.

I meant, we'll start winning our home Test matches again. Last time this SL team whitewashed at our home.

Now, if you want that "golden" era back, then you have a right to have any opinion.

Cummins is being wasted as first change because of Starc. Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson and Lyon would have been a lethal bowling attack. Australia's weak link right now is probably Starc, I hope Pakistan don't make him a hero.

That logic says that if you criticise Misbah then you must be part of the Mickey Brigade.

Lul wut "Mickey Brigade?'' so now Mickey is an evil dictator which the hero and savior Misbah came to overthrow him and save Pakistan cricket? This is like when the Oakland Raiders hired Jon Gruden as their coach.

Some might laugh but I think new domestic structure of Pak might already be producing some visible results in terms of batsmen being more prepared to play good balls and staying on the crease rather than playing mediocre bowler in every other match giving loose balls without testing the technique.

While its definitely early to say but leaves and overall composure has been decent till now.

Shan masood`s crappy technique is being exposed, see this is what happens when you face real bowlers.

Piping up as usual but funnily enough he went missing after the home whitewash against SL in that T20I series.

I credit Mickey for bringing in youngsters and discarding the TTFs. Maybe if he was given a few more years, he would have started bringing results.

By Mickey Brigade I mean the people who are basically the equivalent of the Misbah brigade, the ones who can't take a word against him and will go to war with you.

Starc gets that shape back into the right handers but that only remains for over or two so definitely Cummins should be bowling more overs inside first 10.

That boundary will definitely boost his confidence.

200 coming. Azhar's gonna be Azhar in Australia.

They have learned patience on those docile wickets.

Hasn't been dismissed yet so clearly hasn't been exposed. Also bold of you to consider the likes of Steyn, Philander and Olivier as not being real bowlers.

When was the last time Pakistani openers survived first 10 overs without losing a wicket or two in Aus?

I won't complain if that happens. He had a great tour the last time, if he does it here then you could make the case that he's one of the top 5 Pakistani Test batsmen.

Exactly and also with decent bowlers to face who can hit decent lengths in every other match definitely prepares better for test cricket.

Very good start - need to reach first drinks unscathed. This wicket will definitely get faster on day two, means a score over 300 in first innings could be critical. Aussies won’t like to chase 200 here after day 3.

First sensible post from you. That's good.

His technique isn't good enough, but he's surviving. Not a long term option.

Yes.

Azhar was phenomenal in Aus. Hope he's able to repeat it and do it even better this time.

He has a lot of haters here, which is expected.

With a start like this, though still a bit too early, do you think PAK now has a chance?

like I said before. pakistan are going to surprise a lot of you fake fans. pakistan will draw the series. Mark my words. They will definitely not lose.

Lyon against Shan and Haris while Cummins against everyone can be lethal as they have been especially Cummins in the last year or so. Pak batsmen will have to bring out the best of them to score a decent first innings score.

Shan has a good technique, one of the best in Pak cricket. I think he's very very nervous out there, knowing he wont get too many chances in Int cricket after this.

Good start from Pak, survived and defended well.

Ill give that to them, btw go LFC!

Too early to say - Australia’s best two attackers are Cummins & Lyon. Also, PAK have to control Australia’s first innings. I can so far so good - not many opening pair had survived their opening spell.

he literally bowls 128-134 max. See his bowling vs Lanka. he is a mediocre bowler.

He's mediocre for sure, it's why he went the Kolpak route. But he's a beast in conditions that support bounce as with his height and hit the deck style of bowling he gets plenty.

Who thinks that test matches are boring? they are so fun to watch. If you think that test matches are boring then you are boring.

pakistan look up for it here. this a is way better and more focused pakistani side than the one that last toured and this should be a good game . still can't believe they picked imran over abbas though .might cost them the match

They picked Khan because he took a fiver against a B team. These Pakistani standards have dropped so low.

Agreed. By far the most fun format to watch. Although sometimes matches in the UAE really do stretch out that 'fun' :misbah4

Lyon is gonna come in soon and how Shan who isnt really comfortable against spin plays him can be important here.

Great start by the boys, but when one falls they all fall.

Key is to not lose concentration, however can see us being 2 down at lunch
