What's new

Pakistan bowled out for 294, stretch match into Day 4, set South Africa target of 41 to win 2nd Test

Only in Pakistan players like Azhar, Shafiq, Imam, Sarfraz plays match after match without performance.

Azhar was a bit unlucky - the right-handers are more vulnerable to variable bounce off the crack.

But still, his back lift was far too high given the risk of this. FAF and Bavuma both reduced their backlift to defend against that, and they also went properly forward to that length, which Azhar failed to do.

I think Azhar Ali needs to be retired now. He’s about to be 34 years old and he’s in obvious decline, why would any team retain a failing geriatric like him?

Looks like a complete overhaul is on its way. Team to consist mainly of Shan, Babar, Harros, Abbas and Shaheen as retained players

Hopefully Shafiq will get a nice fat 0 so we may able to get rid of him

Azhar couldn't win us in UAE.... He lacks common sense... He had agenda of playing 7 overs in UAE to get 7 runs.... Poor fellow got himself out while protecting tailender.... I pity him..

What is the Pakistan batting coach doing? No technical adjustments visible.

6 slips and the guy plays a cut shot that he wouldnt even dream to play in a T20. Asad 'chicken' Shafiq

Irrespective of the game man this guy Shan is a class.after long time have seen a Pakistani batsman has that compact technique .his 20's average doesn't justice his talent

KP should go out and bat on Sarfraz’s behalf he’ll do much better than most of our batsman.

Both Shafiq and Azhar should consider themselves extremely lucky to have Misbah as captain otherwise both wouldn't even play 5 tests.

Not enough credit is given to how competitive Pakistan have been this series. When India toured they were 7 down for 80 in 4 consecutive innings, not in a match winning position whatsoever when the series was alive. Pakistan were 100/1 with a lead to set a mammoth 4th innings total. Yet we are told that series was competitive. I honestly don't get the negative attitude of Pakistan fans, if I was the admin I would actually ban them for the remainder of the series.

Lol I remember India being right in the game in all 3 tests. W have been pathetic by comparison

If I was the admin here
I would have banned you for lying

Go & check the scorecards again

And our bowlers also did much better
We didn't concede a lead of 250+

The ones who have been failing for 50+ Tests should be dropped first.

I agree with you on most points but have to disagree with this one. Imam is in the team only becausr he is the nephew of Inzi otherwise he would not have played 10 nonstop test matches despite being mediocre. There are more deserving players in the domestic cricket than a kid with connections. It's not just Imam. There are other few players in our team that is there because of some lobby and connections. Pakistan cricket should be clean of any nepotism and corruption otherwise domestic cricket should be scrapped.

so is De Qock going to get a fine for trying to manipulate the umpire with that celebration?

U ilke guys who work hard and want to improve, in cricket and in life in general. Shaani seems to be one of those

Shafiq will be cutting some cake at the end of today’s play again it seems :(

Whether Imam plays or not, we will lose. I am now beyond the point of arguing for ABC to be dropped and XYZ to be picked.

Pakistan cricket is hopeless and we must accept our minnow status. We don’t have the capability of producing top players.

This is how our batting was in the 90's away from home, bar Sachin. Azharuddin was considered the second best batsman for us in the 90s, and he averaged 36 odd away from home. Mind you, that average of 36 is not even away from Asia, but away from home.

Add to that our bowling attack at that time which was comfortably the worst in the world. Even Zimababwe had fast bowlers better than us (Heath Streak). In comparison Pakistan still has a good bowling attack.

That's the reason why we took so much pride on Sachin who was regarded as the best batsman in the world by his peers world over. We had nothing else in our cricket to take pride on.

Thing is our batting lineup did horribly against NZ and SL at home as well. So it’s not even just an away from home thing. This is what happens when we refuse to move on from players who have no hope.

Shan Masood should be a permanent fixture in Pakistan test team, his numbers don't do him justice.

I hope shan Masood will be pick in the odi squad ahead of imam.

He should.
His average in List A is the third highest in history. It might be inflated by his not outs but still.
82 strike rate as well. In 2017 that strike rate was 72.

Look at the bright side buys, at least no one call us inconsistent!!

Biggest whiner around. Stop lying and fix your cricket so that you are competitive when you tour Lanka next.

Unless crickets comes back to Pakistan, our cricket is doomed.

How are suppose to make money by playing in UAE and then have no money to spend on A tours and domestic cricket.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq ready to be harsh with non-performers in Pakistan team

December 8, 2018

"All the players have to realise their responsibilities and perform to their roles in the team otherwise they will go home now and there will be changes in the team."

We have handed this series to South Africa due to our poor squad and team selections. Made a terrible mistake of playing Yasir's in first test and then repeat it again second time is foolish. Shan Masood fighting out each inning shows that despite having a poor domestic structure we do have some hungry and gutsy players but they are not selected. Azhar needs to retire as he has too many technical issues, and A sad needs to be thrown out for his mental issues.

If you are going to keep one of Azhar Ali or Asad Shafiq, I think it should actually be Shafiq!

I get that he is a mental midget, but Azhar isn’t much better in that regard.

But Azhar is 34 years old, his eye has gone and his technique is no longer sound.

I am no fan of Shafiq, but at least he is technically sound. And he’s a year younger.

I can see how you can persist with a 34 or 35 year old who is performing. But Azhar isn’t performing - just like Shaun Marsh isn’t.

So why carry your oldest player if he’s not performing?

Shan holding his own in the series thus far, better than veteran players like Azhar and Shafiq. Hope to see him in ODIs soon cause that is the format where he merits a selection and was consistent with his performances.

Both are considered the back bone of the team. Extremely wishful to think any of the two will be dropped. If Shafiq gets a 50 and dare I say a 100 here, he will be next in line for captaincy. That's how things roll.

Imam-ul-Haq missed his chance to seal the VC spot. Just had to score 50-70 today.
