Pakistan to take on World XI

Surrey have announced that The Oval will host a charity Twenty20 match on July 10 in aid of the President's Earthquake Relief Fund. The match, between Pakistan take on an International XI, will raise funds for those affected by the earthquake that struck north Pakistan in October last year.

Rahul Dravid has already confirmed that he will captain the International XI team and he will be joined by Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni as well as many other top name cricketers from around the world. Alec Stewart will manage the side.

"This is a great opportunity to see the world's biggest cricket stars while at the same time raising funds for such a worthy cause," said Paul Sheldon, Surrey's chief executive. "Raising money to help victims from the Pakistan earthquake is very important to us. It was a terrible tragedy but I'd like to think that this fundraising match might go some way in helping to speed up the recovery process.

"We were successful in raising a very significant sum last year to help the victims of the Tsunami so it would be great if we can do the same again this year."

Should be an interesting match, as long as it is for a good cause bring it on.

Four Bangladesh players have been included in the Rest of Asia squad to take on Pakistan in two limited-overs exhibition matches to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 25 and 26.

"Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Rafique, Aftab Ahmed and Shahadat Hossain will represent Rest of the Asia," Faruque Ahmed, the Bangladesh chief selector, told The Daily Star.

Faruque said that Nafees was included primarily because the organisers requested them to send a specialist opener for the matches. Nafees enjoyed a good series against Australia at home recently, scoring a century in the first Test at Fatullah.

The other members of the squad include Anil Kumble, Ajay Jadeja, Gautham Gambhir and VVS Laxman from India, along with Romesh Kaluwitharana and Kumar Dharmasena from Sri Lanka. Sanath Jayasuriya was in the original list, but had to be withdrawn, as he is now with the national team on the tour of England. Jayasuriya recently reversed his decision to retire from Tests.

A full-strength Pakistan team will be led by Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Rest of Asia vs Pakistan aswell

no point in the asia vs pak. its guna b hot pressure on players and i doubt many ppl would go to that

Sounds good.

Should be interesting matches.

Rana!!!!!!

I'm getting them hopefully, but they only go on sale to the general public on 30th May!!!

BTW WAT THE HELL ARE PAKISTAN DOING IN JEDDAH AT THE END OF MAY???!!!!

THEY HAVE AN ENGLAND TOUR TO PREPARE FOR!!!!!!

SOMETIMES INZI AND THE PCB MAKE SUCH SUCH STUPID DECISIONS!!!!!!!

I'M NOT ENTIRLEY HAPPY WITH THIS 20-20 EITHER, ITS 3 DAYS, YES 3 DAYS BEFORE THE 1ST TEST AT LORDS!!!!

Will there also be a 20-20 between Pakistan and England after the tests?

Not that I mind any of the extra money going to those victims, but would it really have hurt that much to donate the proceeds from the 20-20 that was officially part of the tour instead.

Although I guess this way they can focus on the charity aspect more and generate extra money.

The asia match is stupid !

But the world xI match is ok, as were in England then anyway, will be an exciting, beastly game, i hope Brett Lee plays, i wanna see our Beast smash him again.

I may get tickets for the Oval game.

Haf, u a Surrey member or online supporter?

Ooh right, im sure u will still get them !!

Charity is never enough. The one against Asia XI is a friendly. More like a vacation for the players and relax. But I question the site and timing also like most of you. May be some players can do a quick umrrah while visiting S Arabia. (trying to look at the bright side but can't find any)

hey where can i read about the pak & asia matches in S Arabia...because this is the first time i have heard of them ..can anyone tell me more about this...thanx it would be a great help...

tickets are on sale

for the 20/20 charity game at the Oval on Monday 10 July at £20 a throw. You can get them from Surrey's website.

Afridi will be playing a charity game on the 24th.

Report: A charity game between a star studded Pakistan professional XI, and an Irish XI selected by Adrian Birrell, will take place next Wednesday, May 24th at The Hills Cricket Club. The game will begin at 1pm, and is to raise funds for the former Hills overseas player, Ijaz Farooqi, who now resides in Ireland, and is seriously ill.

The Pakistan XI contains Shahid Afridi, the most explosive player in International cricket, and his team mates include internationals Wajahatullah Wasti and Naved Latif.

The Irish XI is expected to contain most of the players involved with the current Irish squad, with a few special guests from the professional ranks.

Matt Dwyer from The Hills CC said, “It promises to be a fabulously entertaining game, with a wide array of cricketing stars on view. Obviously Shahid Afridi will be the star attraction, and his team mates are also more than capable of producing real fireworks.

The Irish side will contain the bulk of the current squad, plus it is hoped to get in a few of the local professionals as well. The action gets under way at 1pm on Wednesday, and there will be various fund raising activities at the game, including a raffle and auction. I’d like to appeal to everybody to come along to support this very worthy cause.”

The Pakistan Professional XI have selected their squad and it is as follows:

Shahid Afridi
Iftikhar Hussain
Wajahtaullah Wasti
Azhar Shafiq
Ijaz Ahmed jnr
Naved Latif
Zeeshan Malik
Taimur Khan
Shoaib Khan
Nazeer Shoukat
Shahid Iqbal
Sadat Gull

No oval now only allow flags in the ground... they dont allow horns or
any other music instruments !!

Horns are annoying - fine in footy matches thjat last 90 mins. Not great when the guy behind you is non-stop on the horn for 7 hours.

I really don't like Lords, too stuffy, void of any atmosphere

I prefer Oval & Trend Bridge... Inshallah I shall be going to this
