What's new

Pakistan collapse to 190 all out at stumps on Day 2, set South Africa target of 149 to win

I'm first time watching Shan Masood Playing.the poor guy got so much hatred in this forum. He looks to me the best player in this team along With Babar. He and Babar could be the long term solution for Pakistan batting woes. He always looks busy and looks very athletic unlike many Pakistanis like Haris or Azhar

If we fail to show grit and fight in this session then will lose this test.

Azhar after playing 70 test matches cannot play the situation of the match.Looked so nervous.
Azhar and Asad are the most timid veterans test cricket has ever seen.

two lovely shots from Shan.

Good stuff, just dont get carried away.

Pakistan have batted well however they've lost 2 unnecessary wickets.

Also another fine shot by Shan. Pakistan 115-3 and I believe another 220 runs is enough.

We can never win in South Africa, Austalia carrying so many dead woods

Was disappointing to see this softie playing ahead of him.

I think, they don't want to change the order in between a Test, superstition may be; most cricketers are a bit superstitious. But, ideally they should have started the Test with Babar at 4 and FZ/Asad at 5/6. Asad's record at No. 6 is impressive while FZ can do more damage from lower down the order. If they don't drop him for next Test, I think FZ will bat down, may be swapping spot with Babar, and Azhar at 3.

I have seen two "new" personalities in the last couple of months:

1. The NEW Daniel Bryan (heel)
2. The NEW Shan Masood (face)

Pakistan management again making stupid decisions , making their best batsman play with the tail.

When Phi returns - whom are they going to drop? On playing merit, it has to be Styen, unless they opt for all-out pace attack!!!!!!

Cant stand Shan Masood as I believe hes a massive nepotism pick but hes clearly improved alot on his deficiencies. Looking the part here along with Imam.....have to persist with these 2. Id bring haris in for Fakhar who is clearly too loose on these tracks

How is Cape Town? Does it have something for spinners? Otherwise Pak could opt for Faheem as well.

Haris isnt coming back soon. Dont worry about him.

Need some risk free cricket and sensible strike rotation.

Cannot believe we've gifted two wickets on what is now a decent pitch to bat on.

Middle order looking slim in absence of Haris Sohail. Usman Salahuddin or Saad Ali should be tried in place of Asad.

Agree. If Haris remains unfit then Shan should open.

Two of the most hated Pakistani batsmen on PP by some posters are highest scorers in the 2nd innings.

Inzi should have selected Umar Akmal as well. :smith

Unless Steyn retires early, I am afraid Oliver might also go Kolpak one day.

Very disappointed that Babar hasn't moved ahead of Shafiq atleast. Shan is looking really confident and having him and Babar together at crease should have been priority for Pak. One partnership of 100 can win this game from this foundation and it's ridiculous that Pak aren't giving themselves best chance for it by batting the form players together

This is why Chachoo is chief selector and PP experts are sitting their living rooms

Just need couple of good partnerships to put SA under tremendous pressure

Olivier's action reminds me of Rao Iftihar Anjum's

Theyr paks version of Ramprakash & Hick worst investments ever haven’t learnt a thing since there 1st match they play the same match over & over again!!

Was rumoured to be considering it last year but reconsidered when Morkel left. Selectors told him hes next in line.

They need to just rotate all these guys theyre all guns. Guy called Nortje coming up too who is better if not as good

Shabash Masood, first fifty and then a ton iA

Another positive shot by Shan Masood. Really tonkered that off the left arm spinner.

And now tucked that down the fine leg area.

It's on Sea level and right on the sea shore. SAF is an unique country - J'burg & Centurion are over 2000 metres altitude, Cape Town & Durban on sea level, East London & Port Elezabeth on sea shore but on small plateau.

Cape Town is probably the best place for playing spinners. Can say before watching the color of wicket, but if it's brownish, I probably'll drop Hasan for Abbas and rest remains same, or may be Haris comes back for FZ, which should help bowling as well. Fahim should play at J'burg, where don't think Yasir has much role to play.

Have to say - IMPRESSED by Shan. Hard wok indeed pays off something - Umars (Akmal & Amin) need to watch this game closely - these 2 (3 actually, Ahmed is the 4th one of that same group playing age level cricket between 2005-2010) has grown up from probably U13 level together and Shan was the least talented, least focused/talked about and least impressive at first sight, but looks like he'll play more games (at least Test Test) for PAK than other 3.

If Pak doesn't get a big partnership SA will be chasing 150/160. Not a huge score on this flat wicket. Shaheen the only danger because of the extra bounce.

Commentators were discussing possibility of a five-man attack with one of the batsmen dropping out.

Then question is whom to drop - at current form, it has to be Amla!!!!!! Tough call, but he is genuinely struggling and surviving on reputation.

Ironically Shan has better list A stats so could be issues for Pak considering they do not want to drop Fakhar/Imam in ODI's.

But Shan is batting on the offstump exposing his leg stump. A bit like S Smith. A smart bowler could work him out.

With Yasir pretty much redundant on this surface and providing no pressure with control of runs i doubt we could defend 150 witj 3 seamers. We need 200 to defend.

You have not won the match and chachu has done blunders.

Remind me how many Asian teams have won in SA?

And what blunders? I have been on PP since as a lurker and member since 2004 when Oxy ran it- one thing that has never changed is Pakistani fans are convinced that whoever is not in the team is better than players in it.

Inzi is the best selector weve had for many years, and Arthur the best coach.

Asad needs to be more positive with his defence and leaving the ball.

I think Maharaj will eventually go.

Steyn, Rabada, Philander, Oliver. That will be SA attack next test.

Steyn will stay because of his stature and Philander certainly has to come back in this XI.

Yes, that's why I hope we get one 100 run partnership here. Could really make a great game tomorrow.

Sarfraz is also hated a lot here (perhaps because he is from Karachi). I am one of the few who supported Sarfraz and Imam, Imam has repaid my faith in him, lets hope Sarfraz can do the same in batting; he does look badly out of form though.
I'm also fast becoming fan of Shan with his composer, match awareness and helping his partners out with ongoing tips while batting.

Pakistan playing Maharaj smart, taking 4 runs off him per over. Putting pressure on the captain to bring back the pacers who could be ineffective due to exhaustion.

It would be great if no wickets are lost today and Pakistan manage a lead in excess of 230, because that would be tough to chase. Heck, being very optimistic, they could even get to 270...all of it down to how these guys apply themselves.

It would probably be de Bruyn.

Depends on this Test - if they lose it, might not change combination of 6-4 risking a series loss by 2nd Test. However, Phi is quite decent bat, might cover duel role of No. 7 as well. In that case De Bruyn indeed misses out.

The rain forecasted for the next days will make sure that cracks get wider plus bowlers would be refreshed after rest if the sun comes out
