Stumps on Day 2, and Pakistan have fought their way back into the contest after a long day’s grind. The debutant Asif Afridi was the man who turned things around late in the day, striking twice in quick succession to remove Tony de Zorzi and Dewald Brevis in the final half hour of play. His breakthroughs provided Pakistan with a much-needed lift just when it seemed South Africa were taking control.

Earlier, de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs had stitched together a solid partnership of over a hundred runs for the third wicket, handling the spinners with maturity and composure. Stubbs, who remains unbeaten at the close of play, had a slice of luck when a tough chance was put down off Sajid Khan’s bowling — a moment that could have tilted things even further Pakistan’s way.

South Africa’s batting has looked steady in patches, but they’ll know the job is far from done. With Pakistan posting 333 in their first innings, the visitors still trail by a fair margin. The third day promises to be crucial — South Africa will aim to bat deep and erase the deficit, while Pakistan will look to capitalize on the momentum gained late in the evening session.

South African's have gotten more used to the Pakistani spinners. Pakistan has suffered 3 major consecutive collapses vs the South African spinners. If the Proteas reduce the deficit or get a small lead, Pakistan will be in big trouble.

We will find out today/tonight how much guests have adapted the conditions. It certainly does not sound too encouraging by just watching highlights. Pakistan batting itself against good spin is dodgy though, which will keep the guests hopeful, however probably not too much.

A win in this match would mean a lot and today is the decisive day. If SA bat till tea, then of course any lead would be gone and we’d start our second innings trailing and that’s not ideal for our collapse-prone batting lineup.

So to not have to deal with that situation, we have to get the visitors out in the first session and a half. Fortunately for us, SA’s batting unit looks weak in these conditions.

Pak should be able to roll over SA for less than 250.

Then set 275 in final inns and the game is sewn up.

If SA somehow drag themselves to 300, I think SA will be favourites though. Pak batters will be too jittery with only small lead

I think Proteas will be all out in the 2nd session.. Not first because I think they will hang on tight... pitch has started doing some dance but Saffers were doing fine

Afridi strikes. First over and he has been incredibly accurate so far and it rewards him with a wicket.

Surface lacks bounce and pace and Asif has provided both with his height and quick arm action

A lead of 50-60 on this surface is more than enough.

The World Test Champions are playing India in India next month & Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka next year, qualifying for the final looks bleak for them in this WTC cycle.

There were signs of low bounce when i saw a few overs. It was bound to cause error in judgement more frequently. No surprise they are imploding. WIll be impossible in 4th innings even to score 150.
Yes there's low bounce and tall ballers are more capable of exploiting it isn't it? Asif's accurate too

With Asif Afridi it has actually been the lack of turn that has made him so dangerous. Seems like South African batters were looking for turn but besides a few dismissals the ball just held its line. The length and pace has been absolutely perfect from him though and that has been the most challenging aspect for batters to contend with.

Asif Afridi only started getting wikuts in the past couple of seasons despite debuting in 2010 or so. Just goes to show even if you're not extra talented, hard work and grinding it out in the domestics will help you succeed. Something the super duper stars like Babar should think about.

Muthu is more than a handy batter
Most of the desi origina batters are good against spin. I remember a match where INdia was one wicket away from win. Rachin and Ajaz patel batted low down the order. They saw 10 over off against Ashwin, Jadeja and earned a draw.

Asif accuracy and control has been his great asset, stated yesterday be patient with him he is bowling in right channel.

Need to try to lead by about 75 runs
score another 150-175 runs
should be good enough

Over bowled Shaheen clearly based on his performance in last game..that was a fourth day surface that aided reverse swing and there was uneven bounce

Apart from his first spell Afridi has resorted to the full over pitched crap again. His speed has also gone down from mid 130 to high 120s.

Good review in the end

As plumb as they come, these umpires have been terrible. He probably over compensated this time for the howler before.

Why is no one posting today??
Seems like pakistanis have lost interset in tests and are just after mickey mouse T20s

Cannot let them go past 267-270... the more the lead. the better because I am not sure if Pakistan batters can bat them out of the game...

their lower order has contributed more than ours and that is making a huge difference... No match..

Ours is pathetic

South Africa clawing back. Although pitch still very flat we can be rest assured of a third innings collapse.
Spicy match on our hands
