Haris need to be dropped, not because he is out of form, but doesn't want to learn from his mistakes. Got out in similar fashion in both the innings, just like t20 series. These kind of players are very dangerous and can negatively impact the team culture. Despite of being one of the best batters of Pakistan after Babar Azam, he never fails to disappoint with his casual and lazy approach.

Instead bring someone like Abid Ali or Imam. Imam has hunger for improvement, gives his 100% despite having limited talent.

Good match

I think Australia should step off the gas for a bit otherwise day 5 tickets will have to be refunded.

They can chase 100 odd on last day.

A draw would make Babar ATG in Pakistan, though.

it was such a big blunder playing haris in t20s , i remember nasir jamshed used to be a good player before he was tried in test matches. Something our selectors have no idea about.

How likely is a draw, realistically?
Barely any chance because they'll have to play out at least 140 more overs so they can give a decent amount of runs for the Aussies to chase down. Either we play fast (4+ rpo) and take a lead of at least 150 or just try to play it out.
Neither are likely to happen lol

Would like to see Babar or Shan (or both) get a hundred.
Give them some sort of a target to chase down.
Doesn't matter if it's just 10 or 20 runs

Inshaallah i would love to see them win.

Believe me it will happen, none of these aussie bats can handle swing.
Abbas, imran and naseem will destroy them.
Now who do you drop.shaheen or yasir.
It has to be shaheen.
Bring in imam and abid and drop haris and ifti.

As of now ifti should not be dropped he has to play one innings tomorrow.

Haris and asad could have left those deliveries, the ball was missing the stumps in both cases.
Advice to any pak batters reading this,
DON'T PLAY AT BOUNCERS,JUST GET OUT OF THE WAY!
I hope shaan is listening.
Bouncers will always miss the stumps!

Azhar got done by a good one from stark, nipping back .

If they can handle the scorecard pressure and the bouncers,(dodge them) theres centuries for the taking for shaan and babar.
Rizwan, ifti, yasir and shaheen have to come to the party.

We can't set aussie a target, so we need to bat 2 days.
Impossible? Probably.
All out by tea tomorrow? Most likely.
But lets hope!

Yes and we have all time greats whi can handle swing from superior bowlers.
And Shaheen is the best bowler in the team no way he gets dropped

Lets see how he does, if i was in charge, i would tell him that his batting for his test career tomorrow.
Ifti at the moment is set for t20 world cup and i would try him in odis.

Horses for courses !
Something pakistanis dont understand
Adelaide pink ball night tests, the ball will swing, especially at twilight. Need both abbas and imran in the team. Yasir as sole spinner, who can bowl 30 overs a day.
So leaves you with shaheen or naseem.
Shaheen doesnt swing the ball, naseem can swing both ways.

Don't let IK sr one fluke spell fool you we are not winning any thing this tour is about giving Shaheen and Naseem expierence let them have it.

Shaheen and naseem are the future, but we have lost this test and we need to win the next test.
Imran is a good bowler, in seaming, swinging conditions. I think he can be a match winner in a pink ball test.

Coming from an Australian perspective, Imran is not someone I worry about going to Adelaide. His line and length has been inconsistent, and while he was more economical today a lot of that was due to bowling a wide, defensive line. In Adelaide, that would just waste the conditions. Smith and Labuschagne would just leave him all day.

Abbas has shown he can bowl a stump to stump line well which is what will be necessary in the day-nighter

Paksitan is.not winning any test in Australia pink red or green whatever the color of the ball unless Aus allows us to 4 times even then it will be tough . Just write this off as another whitewash and look for the next series

No not a stump to stump line, just slightly outside off stump line is required, bringing the slip cordon into play, if the ball seams or swings and imran is usually good at that line.
I would play both imran and abbass, as well as naseem and yasir.

Messi Shah cleanbowled Smith, wow!

Any chances of a double century for Babar :)

Its not that far fetch an idea, if he plays sensibly, which he normally does, avoiding the bouncers, then this pitch is a pancake. Just depends how long shaan can stay with him, as theres now some rough on the left hand side of the wicket and lyons is making use of it. Also, how long the other batsman can stick with babar.

Maybe, lets see.

Another one of the most demoralising days of Test cricket for Pakistan.

Only think to salvage here is if shan or babar can get a 100 and take confidence into 2nd test.

We will get blown away for 150 if we are lucky

Rizwan is useless and so is the 40 year old guy

Azhar & Shafiq have been a waste of time for the last few years

Yes he will have to play sensibly and also needs to get support from other batsmen.

I wish we had selected another middle-order batsman for this series...

Pakistan need to bat 2 days for a draw....it is improbable but not impossible. Both men at the crease are young and should be hungry. Even if they manage to drag this game long, they would have made a name for themselves.

Come on, be lions.

As I said Steve Smith is an ordinary player who will be found wanting against good attack.

Innings defeat is likely. Still trailing by 276 runs.

Aussies have been quite clinical.

Always be positive, if you go on field with negative thinking you never gonna win any match, be strong and forget about scoreboard, i would be happy if we set target of 30 for aussies.

Cant wait to watch babar batting tomorrow.

It's harder for Shan to get out of the way because of his height, so he can get in awkward positions.

Hopefully it's not even worse tomorrow.

The next test could be worse.

Starc, Cummims , and Hazelwood with a pink ball under lights against Azhar, Shan, out of form Haris , and Iftikhar will not be pretty.

I'm curious, what is the gap between the total number of tests in the Aus team compared to Pak?

Based on how many tests they've played lol.
He's asking combined how many tests have the aussie players played and how many have the pakistani players played

I thought that he was asking how many test matches Australia play compared to Pakistan.

If this was what you were asking:

Pakistan have a total of 237 tests between them (excluding the ongoing match)

Australia have 453 tests between them (excluding the ongoing match)

Pakistan's bowling lineup have 47 tests between them (excluding the ongoing match)

Australia's bowling lineup have 216 tests between them (excluding the ongoing match)

MenInG we can't realistically expect to win IN Australia with this inexperienced team.

This is one of the biggest problems. It is great to try new names and they definitely needed to but to have so many in one team is a big problem. The bowling needed stability

Will Pakistan Australia Test stretch to Day 5 ?

Pakistani batsmen will have to bat well but its possible if they take it session by session.

Mark my words, Babar and Shan to score hundreds with Pakistan finishing on 381-7 by tomorrow.

I would have more confidence if they had Hafeez to come later in the batting order.

I would have been more confident if our tailenders could actually bat.
In our last Aus tour, we nearly chased down 490 just because our tail-enders could bat.
Our current bowling lineup are pure no.11s (except yasir).

You’re asking 4 batsmen (3 of them unproven internationally) to bat an entire day in Australia. Even Babar hasn’t proven himself as a test batsmen

When was the last time Pakistan did that? Have they ever done that in Australia?

Realistically, I don’t even think they will get to the third session on day 4.

You have 4 proper batsmen before the tail starts. You should be able to make a fist of it. But any player associated with Pakistan cricket for the last 35 years has such deep psychological wounds associated with playing cricket against Australia that this will be over well before lunch.

There’s no excuse for this to be the case but this is what will happen

This is pretty much the mentality of any Pakistani coach or player who comes to play in Australia. I don’t fault you for it- I am just depressed that this is how everyone in the Pakistani set up thinks. Deluding themselves that it’s our first tour and legends have failed before us, we will be better next time - all of which is nonsense , of course

As mentioned earlier today by another poster, Shafiq's brain is in a scramble as soon as the pressure is on.

It was inevitable he was going to get out as soon as Pakistan were within 40-50 runs of the target. He's a massive mental midget.

In regard to the tail-end of this team, count Iftikhar in as well. He's been massively overrated on PP of late.

Last time I remember pakistan batting out a day to save the test was vs NZ a while ago. Pakistan were like 40/3 and Younis and Misbah got like 70 each and saved the match. Unfortunately we hardly ever do stuff like that,. especially not with.these new batsmen who can't bat.
