Buttler and Woakes are well capable of propelling England's score from here. Need to keep pressure on with tight deliveries and the odd tempter.

"Pope is a young lad who likes to score, so he realised that he had to sit in too; sometimes you have to give the bowler the first hour of the day.

"Jos is under the microscope definitely but he's taking the difficult options. Test match cricket is the difficult option compared to white-ball cricket and he wants to crack this format.

There is absolutely no point playing 5 bowlers if you're not gonna use the 5th one and tire out the fast bowlerw . . Shaheen has bowler 16 out of 50 overs . .
Needs to better utilise his bowlers . . Shadab should have bowled by now
 
Pakistan are lucky that England has no Sam Curran In this X1 Lol. India reduced England to pretty much similar scores or even worse every innings last tour but then Sam Curran took the game away from us.

This English tail looks relatively weaker.
 
Would love to see shan masood given a go with the ball..... Feel like he may break a partnership or two this series

I think England will get pretty close, their tail is usually good for some runs unlike Pakistan who rely heavily on Babar. I reckon England will get around 280-320.

He’ll get spanked to be honest, haven’t seen him bowl much but I would wager he doesn’t have control over line and length.

Right now, odds are in Pakistan’s favor so no need to relent the pressure by going with a part timer who can go for runs. Especially after lunch, Shaheen and Naseem will be well rested again and wouldn’t be a bad idea to go with another pace barrage.

Ditto - looks like PAK think they have gone in with 4 bowlers. A tad worried for SSA’s load.

I would gladly take faheem over YS at this point. Don't see him playing much of a role in this series. In low scoring games you need immaculate control in order to take wickets, and YS cannot provide that on this pitch. Was never his forte in any case
 
Game right in the balance here. Pakistan are starting to leak too many boundaries.

All of the England tail will stand and try to contribute 20-30 runs each. Pakistan should try to bat in the 3rd innings with a lead of 80-120 runs
 
Azhar's captaincy has been excellent so far and he deserves praise for that. But the toughest junction of the play is going to start after lunch and his captaincy is going be tested. We can bowl them out within 200 or we can end up giving them around 300sh score.
Also, the biggest worry is that Shadab has not been given the ball and that is the only mistake uptil now by Azhar. What worries me is Yasir and Shadab bowling in tandem. While I can he wrong but personally I would want to see pace and spin in tandem.
My pick would be Abbas and Shadab after lunch. Abbas to contain and Shadab to attack.
 
Give Shadab a go Azhar what is wrong with you? He won’t do worse than Yasir and atleast het generates some turn
 
Not sure why Shadab was picked if he isn’t going to be trusted to bowl.

Thank you for saying this. Faheem was bowling with econ below 2. Some posters are still deluded thinking Yasir's going to have a big say in this series. :facepalm:
 
After lunch, we should try to contain runs in the start instead of attacking and leaking runs. I feel wickets will come due to mistakes by batsmen because this is the best time to bat on the wicket.

Agree that Azhar’s been good so far. I just feel though that the first hour yesterday was more bowlers, credit to Azhar for staying calm. The first real test came yesterday when Pope and Root were batting so we can give him credit for bring Yasir on. Similarly, you can credit the bowling change today sure. But at the same time, just feel a lot of those changes were kind of on the cards. Biggest test is now and how he bowls SK and YS. Obviously cannot fault him if SK & YS bowl c**p. But fields will be important. Point sweeper can be brought in for an over or two at least.
 
Not impressed with Yasir’s bowling at all. This is a senior Test bowler with 200+ wickets. He’s been letting his side down but not containing the score with his pointless half trackers or over pitched balls.
 
Lol is anyone watching Sky? Did Abbas just gesture across to Woakes as they were walking off the field “throat slit”???

Is it surprising though? Been crap for a long time now and didn't put in the hard yards like Shan to improve or maintain consistency.

Exactly. I won't blame Azhar if both ball loosely but I would blame him if he bowls them in tandem and we leak loads of runs just like Root and Bess from over 75 to 80 after lunch.
 
If the choice is between Yasir and Shadab, you would still pick Yasir.

Woakes was just smiling though, so not sure if that was a weird way to gesture about a new helmet because Abbas was smiling while doing it too. All smiles weirdly lol.

With his action and experience , I don’t understand how he cannot be taught to just keep the ball in one place with the correct field setting. I get that you have phases as a bowler where the wickets or the 5fers you are so used to taking are drying up, but this guy wants to try 3-4 different things in an over without actually having the control to land them in the right places. He’s bowling like a second spinner rather than a man who is selected to play as the premier spinner of the side

I am not a fan of picking a leg-spinner outside Asia unless he is Warne, but the problem for that Pakistan is that we don’t have an off-spinner in the picture.
 
Good finish to the over from NS. Beauty missed the edge. Yasir from the other end. Genuinely looks like PAK feel like they have gone in with 4.

One of the few balls from Yasir in wickets (If not the only) and he takes the wicket, if he can somehow maintain this channel he can be good.

we need a good off spinner for places like australia. They tend to do quite well there. Also against India for some reason. At the moment we dont have anybody!!
 
So Naseem is 17

He thinks like a mature Test bowler. That was 4 outside off deliveries to Woakes and one that was bowled in line with the stumps. Impressive work by Waqar Younis
 
Best first 4 balls from Yasir in this test yet.
 
Wicket no. 5 and no. 6 fell exactly when I checked the scorecard after a long time.

Didn't brag about it at no.5 but definitely going to brag.

Today's certainly my lucky number.

Zafar Gohar slept his career into the drain and now there is no one in the picture. It is a gaping hole that Misbah needs to plug somehow. Iftikhar and the other guy who played against Australia (forgot his name) are not up to the task.

I think everybody was critic of him due to his performances in overseas tests in last couple of years. If he can bowl like he did in this over no one can question his numbers.
 
England being shown the door very quickly today.

And this against a side which hasnt played Tests for a while.
