What's new

Pakistan finish on 223/9 at Stumps on Day 2 of the second Test vs England

Pointless trying to hold fort here I think. These guys need to go for it

Post 200 and it’s game on, tbh.

It is a very bowling friendly pitch..

Lol azhar actually won the toss and chose to bat

Him and the management need to be sacked for it

Fair enough. But he’s got enough to work with (as in there is enough ability there but it needs to be honed technically and mentally). As opposed to say someone like Ifti Chacha. Plus, time on his side.

He is obviously a better investment than Iftikhar but he still work to do.

Right now I wouldn't feel confident if he had to face Australia and Indias attack.

That was a good ball but Babar is falling into the situation Root is in. Gets off to a start but doesn't always convert.

Babarrr yaaarr... was a beauty but just so frustrated, such a good foundation for Babar

No disputing that. Just feel there is enough to work with.

Our bowlers should be lethal with the new ball in these conditions

Did Babar actually edge that? It hit his thigh, definitely, but his bat?

this is where you need your experienced batsmen to stand up..we have shafiq..thats all you need to know

Probably the most bowler friendly pitch you can get and pak management decide to bat first.

No point playing Yasir

They should just go for it. It's pretty obvious that defending won't lead us anywhere.

i dont know what everybody thinks..but some reason i think england will do well here..we only have three fast bowlers dont forget they bat all the way down...

Rizwan just needs to decide if he’s going to leave it or go for a full blooded cut. I prefer the latter.

eng have better batsmen than ours..need to get Root and buttler on low scores and its game on..they will get a lead but we gotta keep it to a minimum

These conditions are not for batsmen who are normally defensive or a builder of an innings..... every few balls will have the name of your wicket. In these conditions (overcast, swinging, stop/start play), best way forward is to be like Buttler, the way he batted in the last test.

Nothing Babar could have done. In these conditions when Anderson and Broad are bowling like their 5th or so spell together inside 65 overs (Due to breaks), its never easy.

Rizwan and Yasir should probably play a bit aggressively here as in these conditions you can get a ball which will get you out anytime.

There was a time when we had Afridi in the batting lineup.

“Aaj agar chalgaya Afridi toh phir khari nahi...”

:))

Lol @ peoplee thinking our bowlers will do anything. The pitch will suddenly turn flat as soon as England bat.

I don’t see why we should be pessimistic.

Yes they have done poor but they are international cricketers. Surely they will be able to exploit the conditions.

England will be fine. Just got to see of Abbas but he won't be as threatening as he is 80mph and doesn't really swing the ball

SSA and Naseem were poor and don't see them causing England that many issues

they might just bat once. Pakistan bowling is nothing much to talk about. will need a miracle

These are absolutely atrocious condition to bat and pitch has nice zip. They should forget defense
now and try to get as many as possible with this old ball.

every run on this surface is pure gold

200+ here and it's game on.

Ball is moving even after 64 overs. It isn't seaming though which is why you'd still bat first here.

Abbas and Shaheen will be a handful here. Naseem will get good bounce and carry too. Gotta hang on and post 200+.

Abbas is like a sucked up mango. No use of him after the ball gets old

Exactly. Finally a positive post :)

Still, despite all the movement I would say Shan and Babar have fallen to good balls. Abid went by way of a set up (OK ish), Azhar and Asad: no comments. Fawad went to one that would not really qualify as a peach.

Pakistan is seriously lacking a counter attacking batsman. So vital to have, more so in these type of conditions.

And to be honest, I really don't blame these Pakistani batsmen. They are just not technically equipped to handle these type of conditions and pitches. Brought up on docile flat pitches in UAE and Pakistan and then asking them to score runs in seaming and swinging conditions, that too after 6 months hiatus of test cricket, is nigh on impossible. It's like asking a driver who has driven all his life on automatic to now drive a manual transmission car without hiccups. Just not going to happen.

200 here would be a good achievement.

I'm not so sure. At the moment England's Line-up, bar Root, is inexperienced and some of their techniques don't inspire much confidence.

Remember England bowling with a 60 over old ball..
Imagine the movement Abbas and Shaheen will get with the new ball.

However, knowing our luck, moment we bowl the umpires will call it off due to bad light... even though
they're currently playing in extremely gloomy weather.

This pitch reminds me of the 2010 series.

Wish we had a fit and firing Amir.

Fawad got tangled with his exagerrated movement on the crease.

Perfect Bowling conditions for Naseem and Shaeen

Agreed. and Abbas...

If they don't make the new ball talk in these conditions, well then we might as well pack our bags and leave now.

Players like Woakes has better techniques than most of our batters

Rightly said. That way I think Asad and Babar do fine when they try to attack. This leaving the ball thing may be a Younis giving. Remember his early part of the career.

He is one of the main reasons for the state of PAK batting these days.
