ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday allowed the import of life-saving medicines from India in order to provide relief to patients amid bilateral tensions with New Delhi over the illegal annexation of Indian-occupied Kashmir last month.

The permission to import and export medicines to and from the Hindu-majority country was granted by the Ministry of Commerce, which issued a statutory regulatory order in this regard.

Last month, Pakistan suspended bilateral trade with neighbour India after the latter illegally annexed Indian occupied Kashmir by revoking the special constitutional autonomy of the occupied valley through a presidential order rushed through the parliament.

Hundreds of thousands of additional troops were posted in the valley following the order and a military curfew imposed. Thousands of Kashmiri political leaders, businessmen, civil activists and other ordinary citizens were arrested.

International media are now reporting widespread torture and abuse of these detainees by the Indian security forces. Some reports have even claimed that India is denying medical care to patients. Last week, US Senator Bernie Sanders expressed concern in this regard.

Moreover, Pakistan is also contemplating closing its airspace for Indian flights and is also discussing other measures aimed at downgrading bilateral ties with India to protest the moves in the occupied valley.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face....

Humanity comes before anything else. At least that’s what I believe. If this step helps in saving human life, no one should have any objection with it. I know how much it hurts to lose a loved one, I have gone through it.

Ban on import of Indian medicines lifted
In order to avoid a severe crisis vis-à-vis availability of life-saving drugs in the local market, the government has lifted the ban on import of medicines and raw material from India.

They could have requested friendly countries who are manufacturing medicines to give some concession. Importing life saving drugs from an enemy country is not a great idea especially when it is ruled by a fascist hindutva regime. Immediate beneficiaries of this move will be those who worked hard to lift the ban.

Good news for common man in pakistan where he could afford quality medicine at cheap prices. Remember we are all humans first before this india, pakistan ego clashes & all.

I m sure nxt step would be to lift ban on indian cinema

Quality of medicine depends on companies which are producing these drugs there are many companies which are making below average quality drugs and sometimes fake medicines some of these companies are willing to provide hefty commission to suppliers.

How are you relating a necessity to entertainment??

Medicines are a need not a want.
This will be the only exception

What if India denies it?
Why would India deny?
They want this situation to ease so the Kashmir issue is kept quiet
Allowing trade will show that the tensions aren't AS high so there'll be less international attention

What if India denies it?

Then you should name and shame us. I think we have not stooped to such pathetic standards yet. But hey we have Modi, you never know. Pakistan has made a good decision. There should be no question in the trade of life saving drugs. Only pathetic nations do that. Let's see what we're made of.

Posturising - the same reason Pakistan suspended bilateral trade in the first place, knowing that they were ultimately harming themselves more? Secondly to use the leverage to get Pakistan to allow all other bilateral trade.

If that's not enough to potentially cause civil unrest in Pakistan.

What if India denies it?

In the short term it would cause Pakistan pain, but in the longer term it would gain. Pakistan has enough talent, and they would take the Indian denial as a challenge and set up their own pharma companies to produce the required meds.

humanity should prevail over political disputes. hopefully they can more take steps to alleviate the tension and come to terms with each other. war is never good, especially in densely populated area like Asia. where more civilians will be under constant threat.

If a human being is need for any medical attention fellow human being should help no matter.. Infact sanatana dharma (hinduism) teaches the same "vasudaiva kutumbhikam", all the creatures in this world belong to the family of one true god.

Regarding cinema, see actors should have no boundaries IMO, they should be respected no matter of their origin, I condemn when ppl attack pakistani actors in India. So, actors provide entertainment and they should not be restricted to these temporary political issues.
