What's new

Pakistan smash Australia by 373 runs in the 2nd Test as Mohammad Abbas takes ten-wicket haul

I don't see Australia batting out the day this time. It will be a HUGE effort if they manage to take it into a fifth day.

Sarfraz not keeping has delayed concusion hope not so serious
Rizwan will keep . Asad to captain

so the news from Abu Dhabi is

Mohammad Rizwan will keep behind the stumps as Sarfaraz has gone to hospital to see Doctor as he was hit on his head yesterday. Asad Shafiq will lead the team in absence of Sarfaraz.

Usman Khawaja is not expected to bat as he has a knee injury.

Usman Khawaja, who was off the field all of Day 3 of the Pakistan v Australia Test in Abu Dhabi, has a meniscal tear, which might require surgery.

Khawaja suffered an injury before start of play on Thursday’s third day during a throwing drill, and stayed off the field as Pakistan batted through till late in the day. Pakistan piled it on, scoring 400/9 before declaring and setting Australia 538 runs to win.

With Khawaja missing, Shaun Marsh opened with Aaron Finch but was dismissed by Mir Hamza after scoring just four runs; Finch and Travis Head saw Australia through to stumps at 47/1.

The opening batsman went for scans on Thursday evening, and cricket.com.au reported on Friday morning that “although he has not re-torn his anterior cruciate ligament, he has suffered a meniscal tear”.

Though initial reports suggested that Khawaja might yet come out to bat if needed, Tim Paine, the Australia captain, said before start of play on the fourth day that it was very unlikely that Khawaja would bat.

Khawaja was the star in Australia’s fantastic rearguard in the first Test in Dubai. Set 462 for victory, they were 87/3 when Khawaja, having opened the innings, took charge with an innings of 141, scored in close to nine hours.

With Head and Paine also scoring half-centuries, Australia got to 362/8 when time ran out.

No maiden overs, no pressure created so far, weve bowled poorly this short inns.

This pitch is getting easier and easier to bat on. Expecting Pakistan to struggle a lot here to take wickets. Yasir has been rendered impotent in this series.

Yasir decline seems to be terminal he has looked toothless if Abbas has a poor outing the world record might be in threat.

we would have whitewashed Aus again had Yasir done his job

Wonderful seam movement.

Pakistan need to pair him up with junaid khan , if he is fully fit.

What a bowler Abbas. Gets his second. on a review this time.

And what useless umpiring. It was plumb.

Is khwaja injured?

yes

now he will play ODI and T20 and he will be destroyed or over used just like amir and asif

Abbas giving a big slap to all the detractors and especially the mentality that you need pace to succeed ... we had Asif before who disproved it but people still didn't get it ... Abbas a world beater in FC is proving his mettle ... Mir Hamza will produce the goods too, just stay patient. Get Sadaf Hussain in the squad for Tests & ODIs as well. Reward your performers, stop letting likes & dislikes get in the way !!!

Abbas seems to have been bowling on a different wicket to everyone else in this series :)))

class bowler!

That was a poor leave. Terrible judgement.

Great stuff from Abbas once again though

You can say what you want about Sarfraz, but he is a tough bloke, sent to hospital yesterday and standing upto wickets today. Abbas in not express but 130 kph isn’t slow either, thumbs up for the captain.

Abbas is wreaking havoc. Getting a10fer in the UAE would be an incredible achievement. Australia

Sarfaraz isn't keeping...

By the way, it was Haris who got them to review the Mitch lbw. Shafiq thought it was high.

Abbas you legend. First pace bowler to take 9 wickets in match in a UAE. And counting

Sarfraz isn't on the field today. Rizwan is the keeper

Bro Rizwan is keeping.

Abbas needs to save some wickets for New zealand series! :)

It's rizwan keeping the wickets

Abbas is our Mohammed asif.

I thought we wouldn’t find a replacement for him but we have.

Only lacks his height but otherwise he extracts movement off the wicket and is just as accurate as him.

I have noticed that Haris seems to be the second or third in command these days. In England as well he would stand next to Sarfraz in the slips and they would often look like discussing tactics. I also saw Haris adjusting the fielders during those discussions.

Oh sorry guys! I thought Sarfraz was keeping lol

Sarfaraz is not keeping, it's Rizwan behind the stumps.

People who are saying not to give him a go in ODIs. My question to them is who else is performing at the moment? Except for shaheen afridi I did not see any great bowling from hasan or amir. So why not give him a go and see?

Abbas doesn't move it both ways but he's still mighty effective and that's all we need ... but if somehow Asif got selected too, our seam attack would be FIRE. But I've given up on Asif's return.

Hafeez has had a lot of misfields this match..

Abbas has bowled a really long spell. I'd say it's time to take him off now and let him rest up. Yasir hasn't done much as well. Get Hamza and Bilal bowling.

Just bed in shadab as the main spinner from here on.

Taking Yasir to SA will be such a pointless selection

Yasir been overbowled in spells again while been ineffective!

What happened to Yasir shah.

He used to be so accurate but seems a shadow of himself.

Lasagneman is playing well here. Let's have spin from ends until Abbas recovers from that long spell.
