The HBL Pakistan Super League Player Draft is all set to take place on Sunday, November 12.

Top international stars including Chris Lynn, JP Duminy, Mitchell Johnson, Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, Angelo Mathews, Luke Ronchi, Colin Ingram, Wayne Parnell, and John Hastings have put their name forward for the HBL PSL Player Draft.

These players will join a star-studded PSL roster including the likes of Shoaib Malik, Brendon McCullum, Mohammad Amir, Kevin Pietersen, Hasan Ali, Darren Sammy, Shahid Afridi, Shadab Khan, Andre Russell, Shakib al Hasan, Kumar Sangakkara and many more T20 stars who have been retained by their respective teams.

Each team will go into the HBL PSL Player Draft 2017 with a squad of nine players. The Draft will include one round in Platinum, Diamond and Gold categories. This will be followed by two rounds each in Silver and Emerging. Teams will have the option to pick up to four players each in the Supplementary category.

The default pick order will see Lahore Qalandars going first followed by Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans. This may be altered as a result of trades.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings have opted to skip their first pick in the Emerging Round, they will nominate a player after the conclusion of their talent hunt program.

Teams will have a purse of $1.2 million each to pick a squad of 20 players.

Hilarious tradings
Wherever there is Misbah, there is Iftikhar.
Don't care about the foreign picks in PSL this year. Most teams hiring power hitters from abroad ignoring the local talent.
More interested in emerging category and seeing these performers from domestic tournaments in PSL,
Sahibzada Farhan
Hammad Azam
Faheem Ashraf
Awais Zia
Saad Ali
Ramiz Raja Jr

Most interesting part for me. Glad to see KK giving a direct path to those who participated in these talent hunts.

Hope they're all selected

Emerging players list please.
Hopefully Sadab, Fakhar, Hasan, Usman, Fahim, Rummon etc will not be in emerging players list

any pace bowlers that we should watch out for from emerging?

also some good batsmen?

lol its the most Misbah thing ever to get Chacha Ifti and then release a player like Talat

Misbah should play as a coach rather than a player keep blocking the path of a new player

Franchises should get in writing from potential players that they will play in Pakistan or they will forfeit their earning otherwise. No more nakhray should be tolerated from foreign players. PSL Final, World XI Series and now the SL T20 has sent a clear message which no one can deny.

My hopes for this tournament

1. Hard hitting middle order batsmen making a name for themselves - Talat i hope, also watching out for Hammad, hope both get picked.

2. Hard hitting opener

3. Offspiner

4. Want to see Amad Butt turn a corner like he has in first class

Amad Butt was very underwhelming in the previous season of PSL if I remember. Got clobbered all over the park in his first showing. I guess some players are not mentally tough enough for the big stage.

Above players are NOT in emerging category... most of them are either gold or silver...

he was with the ball but he is still quite young. He has the pace and the height. The fact that Misbah has retained him shows he must see something in him.

If i was Karachi id do everything i could to get Lynn or preferably Evan Lewis. Add another decent middle order batsmen and pacer and id say they have the best team on paper

Right now they have

1. Babar
2.
3. Rizwan
4. Bopara
5.
6. Afridi
7. Imad
8. Amir
9. Usama Mir
10.
11. Shinwari

next to see...umar amain.saad ali.shahin shah. and sadaf hussain.....will be great to see sadaf hussain that we sould know how he goes.

Can anyone give me exact reason why they scheduled draft before t20 cup as it would have been better to schedule it after t20 cup?

I have mentioned before the elephant in the room is that the draft is going to be held before the National t20 Cup which is very unfair to the players.

I personally would like to see Colin Ingram, JP Duminy and Dwayne Bravo to fill these vacant spots. Would love to see someone like Linn to fill the opening position but since KK have a third in most of the rounds it is highly unlikely that LQ or IU won’t pick Linny. Same theory can be applied for Mitchell Johnson.

I think all the Aus players bar Clarke hate mickey. So i cant see that happening

Even Munro would suffice if not Lynn or Lewis. We also need a right arm pacer to supplement Amir & Shinwari and I’d go for Fahim. Since KK have first gold pick, in quite hopeful we can snap him up.

Dumminy would be a good pick as others have mentioned. Gives a solid player, gun fielder, and a decent offspinner as well

I completely forgot about the emerging player and 4 internationals rule.

I have feeling Imad may miss out with Afridi there in order to accommodate others.

I wish Qalandars pick Angelo Mathews and Luke Ronchi in their first 2 picks. Mathews is probbaly the best player in the draft and Ronchi is the only foreign Keeper and LQ need a keeper after trading Rizwan.

Islamabad United played it smart here

Got all the second round picks. Instead of focusing on player trades they did draft trades which is smart.

Zalmi in the process of getting rid of Iftikhar, they gave away good draft picks :))

Iftikhar is a good hitter. Good pick by isloo

Lol what’re you talking about ? They had second picks anyway because they finished second last in last year’s tournament

Yeah or maybe Mathews, I think the middle order will have a lot of foreigners.

Also Shinwari is injured and will most likely miss the PSL so we need to pick a good ‘emerging’ pacer now. Shaheen would be the ideal pick but if not him hope we can get some other good pacer.

Maybe we could get something like:

Babar
Lewis / Lynn / Munro
Bopara (?)
Duminy
Mathews
Rizwan
Fahim
Afridi
Imad / Usama
Amir
Emerging

Guys like Fahim & Afridi can be promoted to hit where needed.

They haven’t necessarily released him
The teams have not announced their 10th retained player who is an emerging player and most likely Hussain Talat will be that 10th player for Islamabad United

All of them minus Fahim have been retained by their respective franchises and none of them were emerging.

Let’s take small steps. Taking leaps can potentially destroy two promising aspects of Pakistan cricket- PSL and cricket at home

Ideally a player like JP Duminy would be ideal. Hold the middle order together, can attack at the end and provide overs aswell.
Also Wayne Parnell would be a nice addition as he is a good bowler and helpful hitter in the low order
Finally a good opener would be Lendl Simmons. Showed some of his talent in PSL 1, but I reckon he’s can partner Babar well

Good joke
Iftikhar has managed to play 3 seasons of PSL, no idea how? He’s average, should give better youngsters an opportunity

hope so as long as Talat gets some game time

do bother to watch domestic t20s like national cup and all

He’s an average player, I don’t know how he’s got selected in the national team. We have so many better players why go for the oldies?

I am not sure if Imam Ul Haq will be consudered emerging but some great emerhing takents to look out for.

Its one platform where it doesnt matter how young you are, if you are good enough you can be fast tracked to international circuit. Shadab is a big example, I dont think he would have been selected at this age if it wasnt for PSL.

PSL has also given confidence to selectors which was somewhat missing in last 4, 5 years or so as they stopped selecting youngsters like they used to in Pakistan but now with PSL they have gained the same confidence as before and are now selecting youngsters.

Big problem is for Karachi Kings, they need another pace bowler as Shinwari wont be available.

May be they can find themselves one from emerging category like last year.

Can anyone high light about promising young players of this list

Did Afghan cricket board apologize for their recent remarks about us. If no why they are still in the list

245 Muhammad Asif Pakistan

Is he the real Muhammad Asif? Ok to enter UAE, I heard he had some entry ban due to previous violations.

With so many international players available, I fully expect many big names to miss out
I doubt Gayle will be selected this year, it u never know
Watson, Smith and DJ Bravo all maybes

Only players who can confirm that they will play in Pakistan should be selected by the Franchises.

Was thinking the same..I hope it is..
But is spelt muhammad as opposed to mohammed so there is a doubt.

Gayle has been an absolute bust in the previous two seasons. It would be a travesty if he gets selected based just of his name.

Islamabad United played it smart here

Got all the second round picks. Instead of focusing on player trades they did draft trades which is smart.

Zalmi in the process of getting rid of Iftikhar, they gave away good draft picks :))

Iftikhar is a good hitter. Good pick by isloo

zalmi were right ,this hack has done nothing so far in last 2 psl.he will fail but islu love for the hacks continues.it is their bowling who won them most of the matches last time.

Ahmad shehzad in platinum..lolz and what is ingram doing there.

U probably haven't watched NatWest T20 blast. the guy is a beast in T20s... He was also signed for BBL by Adelaide Strikers... He is more than a good player in T20s

Gayle is one of the player along with Bravo & Kieron Pollard who refused to play that T20 series in Pakistan...
& i think thats why KK dropped him too..because he won't play in Pakistan..

If i was Karachi id do everything i could to get Lynn or preferably Evan Lewis. Add another decent middle order batsmen and pacer and id say they have the best team on paper

Right now they have

1. Babar
2.
3. Rizwan
4. Bopara
5.
6. Afridi
7. Imad
8. Amir
9. Usama Mir
10.
11. Shinwari

Lahore is,
Baz
Fakhar
Akmal
4
5
6
Yamin
Narine
Shah
Sohail
Emerging fast bowler.
They have Lynn for sure, if they manage dwayne bravo and faheem, best team. Far better than Karachi.

Will Lynn be fit for the tournament? Seems like a big risk to waste a platinum pick on a player who might still be injured.

Yeah with a bowling lineup that has just one decent fast bowler and a very good offspinner combined with a batting lineup that's totally hit or miss. Lahore's gonna finish last this season again if they don't bring another decent bowler instead of the mediocrity they have right now.

Lahore should go for.
1 Baz.
2 Fakhar.
3 Lynn.
4 Saif Badar.
5. Luke Ronchi.
6. Kamran Ghulam.
7 Yamin.
8 Narine
9 Sohail Khan
10 Yasir.
11 Shaheen Shah

This team could be the best team of the PSL. 2 very good spinners in Narine and Yasir and a decent spin option in the form of Kamran Ghulam. The batting is fantastic. Though fast bowling looks a bit weak.

They have gone to North American drafting style - that's the team finishing lower in previous season comes up higher in next draft. This is good when the league is settled, because the idea to to allow weaker franchises to strengthen squad at a lower cost with fresh blood. Also, it's good for youngsters as well, because most of the top picks directly slot in starting XI. But, here I feel Multan was a bit hard done by - already they had to pick from released players, then 6th pick in every round isn't fair. The order was perfect, if they started with Multan - still MS can form a good team, because T20 is very close game, 1/2 individual can dominate the outcome of a match.
