Victorian young gun Mackenzie Harvey will be a number of rising stars out to impress this week, as Australia Under 19s take on Pakistan Under 19s in a three-match Youth ODI Series in Melbourne.

The matches will be played at The Albert Ground on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, as part of the tourists’ preparations for the 2018 ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand.

Harvey is one of the youngest members of the Australian squad, at 17 years of age.

“It’s always good to try to test your skills against a different country,” Harvey told SEN on Tuesday.

“I reckon the boys will get a lot out of it over the next couple of days.”

The left-handed batsman has experienced a rapid rise this summer, making his 1st XI Victorian Premier Cricket debut for Carlton, a Toyota Futures League debut for Victoria and scoring a brilliant century for the Cricket Australia XI at the Under 19 National Championships.

“It’s a really good experience, playing in the 1s there (at Carlton) you get to play against the older blokes who have played Premier Cricket for ages,” Harvey said.

“Seeing how they go through training and what they do on match days is really good, and having the coach, Warren Ayres, there who’s played for Victoria is very handy to have around.

“Seeing what it’s like at Futures League level and sort of getting used to a four-day match… getting used to playing those four days, how fatigued you are at the end… pushing through that was a great challenge.”

Harvey is one of three Victorians who will represent their country in their home state, alongside wicket-keeper Patrick Rowe and Victoria Bushrangers all-rounder Will Sutherland.

Sutherland, 18, has been added to the 14-man group to face Pakistan and is the one member of Australia’s World Cup squad who will feature in this series.

These Aussie commentators know more about our U19 players than Ramiz knows our senior cricketers :danish

SS Afridi is displaying some skillful swing and seam bowling.

Arshad Iqbal is working up some decent pace for someone his age.

Nice for the young players to experience playing in Australia. This will give them lots of confidence and exposure.

Hassan has been ordinary since the Asia Cup U/19s. Think he can manage the bowlers better too

Rohail Nazir looks like a stylish, compact batsman. Exciting prospect.

Good win for Pakistan u19s. But a splendid century from Harvey.

Excellent 6 wicket victory for Pakistan U19s in the 1st Youth ODI game against Australia U19s at Melbourne; Ali Zaryab (63*) & Saad Khan (53*) excelled in batting, whilst M Musa took 4/33; Scores : Aus U19s 241 (45.1/50 ov), Pak U19s 243/4 (44.2/50 ov) #AusU19vPakU19 #Cricket

Enjoyed watching this thanks to streaming on Cricket Australia website. Not sure if they will show highlights but you could check. Nice bowling by Musa Khan and leggie Shafqat. Horrible runout of Ruhail Nazir but I think he deserved it with his tendency to take off when there is no chance of a run. Hasan Khan definitely overbowled himself and was shaky in line and length. Fielding was impressive some great catches two by Zaryab who batted very sensibly. Zaryab had one horrible over with three noballs which is unforgivable for a spinner but he deserved another over or two later in the game rather than Hasan bringing himself back.

Arshad Iqbal has a future.

He has got pace and is only 17.

It was said that Musa is the quickest but I think Iqbal has more pace.

All the pace bowlers looked good. I did not start watching till around the 9th over so I missed the opening spells by Iqbal and Afridi. Look like great prospects.

On the Australian side Harvey looked to be in a different class. He is only 17 years old. Great temperament and talent. Should note that the team for the most part is made up of players who are not included in the actual Australian under 19 side.

Great performance by Pak young guns. Here are full highlights:

Some really good talent on display. Great intent from both new openers of Pakistan, Alam looks like a good hitter of the ball.

Two problems I can think of is after Rohail Nazir we have got three lefties in the middle which becomes bit monotonous though all are good.

Also I think Hassan Khan and Shaheen Shah need to pull their socks up, team expects a few match winning performances by them in future matches and world cup.

Very Good coverage by cricket Australia, and this Hassan Khan captain speaks Very Good english..

Why are they not playing their best team? This is prep. for the actual WC.

Good question. Not sure why they are not fielding their best side. Possibly means that they are under-estimating the Pakistan under-19 team.

The only player who is also on the World Cup squad is Will Sutherland. He is the vice-captain of the team selected to represent Australia. The commentators were speculating that Harvey could be added. Incidentally, if you check the team lists, it is interesting to see names like Du Plessis and Kallicharran.

People from the British O-A Level system are generally fully fluent in English.

Next match tomorrow (Australia time) so only a few hours till the start now.

Shaheen not opening the bowling today, seems like a tactical decision. Musa picked up a wicket.

Some light rain right now.

Australia U19 all out for 235, Pakistan needs 236 to win in 50 overs.

Saw the wickets in the first game and now today, and Arshad Iqbal looks a real prospect, he’s tall as well and has hit the right lengths. Has been much more effective than Shaheen.

Your thoughts on Arshad Chief Destroyer ?

Not on the live stream i saw last night, Afridi looks a real prospect. Iqbal looks to have a nice action but Afridi looks strong and did enough with the ball, mostly away from the right handers. He reminded me of Allan Mulally with his action.

Stream working but showing earlier game. I guess we spoke too soon when we complimented Cricket Australia.

First time tuning in.

E. Alam is sooooo classy WOW

The other guy Zaid isn't all that from the little I've seen.

Zaid looked more fluent earlier on in his innings.

Slowest down a bit but he gets to the hundred at last. :sachin

Zaid Alam looks another fantastic prospect, the commentators had nothing but praise for him

Commentators saying this Pak U19 side is a good fielding side, encouraging to hear.
