Lets hope this batting blip is th only one for pakistan in the series and its not a costly one!

Misbah needs to be careful here because he could easily get out lbw to broad here!

Misbah trying to protect YK by keeping him away from the pacers

they should score some runs that would help a lot blocking will not help at all

Rameez babbling about Misbah's strike rate while Yk does 18 off 65

Anderson getting ball to reverse swing now! testing time for pakistan.

Imagine top 3 of shehzad hafeez and malik against anderson in england. 2/3 is the real possibility.

That was always the possibility. It is same case with Younus Khan, Azhar Ali and Misbah as well. That's why i was against the traditional subcontinent pitch from the beginning. But people were bragging about the wins against Australia last year.

If they fail in England, it is still not their fault. If they succeed, that is more than hard work despite of lack of experience in cloudy condition.

Tuk tuking!!!! Still we are trail by 18 runs with 7 wickets remaining.

These are a few small things that I hope Pakistan improves on post Misbah (who has done admirable job so far): being a little more demanding about result oriented pitches, being in the moment at all times. The propensity is to shut down everything in a crisis is a bit too much.

England deserve to win this test. Our selectors and head coach did not take England seriously and did not include any reserve spinner.
Agreed they shd hv kept a reserve spinner in the squad however having said that who do u think they shd hv left out from the pacers. Rahat Ali who has always done well in UAE conditions which are alien to fast bowling. Imran khan- who produced a match winning 5 wicket spell in last outing or Wahab who has been doing really well off late. May be they shd hv kept fawad alam out.

Not really , all three are suspect against even little bit of movement. :yk and :shafiq are better players of swing bowling by far in thge pakistani team.

Malik is the worst player of fast bowling outside asia from pakistani team. His record in enhland speaks for himself.

I was honestly surprise (and still not convinced) that Malik was coming one-down. They should use these friendly pitches to give Asad Shafiq the confidence to come one-down and put Malik down the order.

YK has become an unbreakable wall and will make Pakistan safe.

Better or worse against pace , younis khan does his job well and that's scoring runs for pakistan. That limitation stops him from being a good ODI player but in tests he finds way to score runs.

If the Pakistan Tests vs England are next July/August then there won't be much cloud cover at that time.

Its a mistake to have the wicketkeeper you to yk in my view. Edge to wicket keeper becomes a difficult chance.

Does that mean its easier to score runs in Tests than ODIs

Paul Reiffel looking like Mark Knopfler from early days of Dire Straits.

If these two bowl 5-6 km quicker, both of them will be back in the hut in no time. Would like to see Younis face Wahab when he's reversing.

Have a feeling Misbah is gonna get wrapped on the pads.

Shoaib Malik is the least worst player comparatively [Misbah, Azhar, Asad]. He plays international leagues in overseas all the times. That's how he improved his technique against fast bowlers. Before that, he was horrible, struggling against pacers.

Younus and Shafique are the worst batsmen when it comes to swing. Just because they performed in South Africa doesn't invalidate the fact that that second test against South Africa was the flat. I am surprised that the whole team didn't take advantage of that. That was the only pitch Saeed Ajmal was able to take advantage of.

Besides, no one has been able to perform in cloudy conditions. Nobody can. That being said, what if Malik performs and wins the match for Pakistan in England then? I would rather take Malik than all these batsmen you have mentioned that even treat flat track like green pitch aka bowling paradise.

Malik was always one down batsman since 2004/2005. That's why Inzimam promoted him above the top order. He even performed well in bouncy pitch for the tour of Africa in 2006/2007 down the order whereas everyone failed except in flat track aka 2nd ODI against South Africa, 2006/2007.

We don't have ideal batsmen for swing condition. Even Zaheer Abbas, Inzimam and Javed Miandad were horrible too. We do the best we can with whatever resource we are given.

Younis scampers through for a run, breathes sigh of relief.

Sure.....I just think its a high risk strategy. Malik is 33/34. I think he is mentally very strong....but I think this is asking too much of him. But happy too see how he goes in the next 4 innings.

Misbah needs to work ball around here and score some runs, pakistan cant just keep blocking because if a wicket falls we have gone nowhere

This is a typical Misbah type situation. Deadbat the rest of the day.

Might not be any cloud.

Then players like Malik and Younus Khan are the best bet for England. Both are great at flat bounce. Malik just needs to practice docking down and he is set to go.

Asad, Azhar and Misbah treats flat track like bowling paradise. No way they would excel well.

Malik has done nothing in england , he averages 8 there and in good number of innings. We will again go to england after 5 years so no need to screw up a tour keeping a batsman who can't do jack in english conditions. No need for assumptions here , we have results from his past. Hafeez is another one who needs to go.

Won't call this solid defense. Both have look unconvincing.

What we saw by Cook is what you call solid defense.

He is most likely to play down the order knowing Azhar Ali. Personally i think he can serve well for Pakistan down the order in Test format. We will need someone to prevent the collapse. Judging by the rumor of retirement and form Misbah is in, i think Malik is ready to take his spot for the tour of England next year.

Malik will do well for the remaining of the series. He was best flat track batsman in the past. He can do it again. But England can be challenging for him, that i admit.

Looks like england looking to strange YK out on the legside here.

But Masood and Malik made it like a top green

Haha. These two have made the pitch look like a landmine.

Both were unlucky to get out, twice for Shan Masood. Poor guy :))

Misbah and Younus Khan are treating flat track like landmine. It is embarrassing despite of playing for more than five years in a row. What more practice do they need to be effective at home series? Malik coming back after five years already feasted on England bowling attack indicates the pitch is hardly landmine to him.

Age finally catching up with Misbah. Need to retire after this series

Younis gets away with the most unconvincing boundary of the innings.

Moeen Ali onto bowl now, pakistan need to get rid of this defecit quickly and start to push forward postively.

Pretty much correct. Due to this only Test, Masood has made his future dark.

I can slate YK as much as I want, but there is denying he is making the most of his experience to see it through.

If the rumor of Misbah retirement turns out to be true and Malik plays in his spot, then Masood spot shouldn't be in under danger. He is still fine opener, just caught off-guard twice. That's all.

England just look like the better side at the moment in terms of batting, bowling and fielding.

Pakistan need to up their game in the 2nd Test.

An exciting series ahead...

single for misbah. pakistan need to make sure they dont gift moeen a wicket here!

What is wrong with Misbah? He is playing like it is first time he played at home in day 5.

This is a well earned predicament by Pakistan. Hopefully they dont double down on requesting more flat pitches for the rest of the series.

There will be competition between Masood and Shezzi.

Azhar Ali and Yasir Shah will come in for pakistan in 2nd test so both batting and bowling will improve more so.
