Pakistan V England, 1st Test Day 1 [13/11/05]

Anyone remember watching Lillee bowling off spinners in Faisalabad long time back ? Hope this isnt a joke pitch !

It is quite jokish..the way out is scoring lots and putting the pressure and hoping they get out to poor batting. Don't think the bowlers will be effective otherwise.

like India did to us 2 yrs ago.
Anything under 500 will be too less. Inzi is due for a big one.

Hope SB doesnt think that pre lunch play means going into a shell against the likes of Giles...

guys how do england players look on the field? Are they jaded yet?

Nope, they look more relieved after Malik got out, a good partnership was brewing there..

lunch it is. pakistan wouldn't mind this start at all though malik will probably be kicking himself in the pavilion. 103 with only 1 down is acceptable at lunch after the first session.

Yeah except its made differently to the tinned rice pudding you get in shops and tastes a lot more nicer.

nice.. yes ive tried it.. its nice when its a bit warm too

Yes time to whip up those pakoras :P

good start by Pakistan. i hope the rest of the batting lineup cash on this and we post a large total. if we manage to post something around 500 then i think so England minus Vaughan and Bell at 3 and collingwood at 5 will crumble under pressure even on this pitch.

I'm getting sky plus installed next month, so gave cancellation notice to NTL. Some zealous idiot their end disconnected me yesterday (3 weeks before the disconnection date). Just watched the lunch session on my vodafone mobile! Considering its a phone, the coverage is excellent. Does not replace tv, but pretty handy for those long bathroom visits.

Great boothie on now during intermission to provide some intelligent comments.....Intelligent and comments being an oxymoron ;-)

Is it live on the phone?

nice battery life!

Hopefully YK can score big - i think its good if he has a top series to shut the remaining critics he has once and for all

Good start by Pakistan. 103 for 1 at lunch....looking good and I most certainly would have taken that at the start of play.

Malik- looked reasonably solid. Gritted out some runs and was, perhaps, a touch unlucky to be given out.

Butt- Concentration. He is doing well. Keep it up bhai.

Younis- I loved the way he smashed that four straight after Botham was blabbering on about him being a slow starter and on a duck.

We now need to consolidate this position. Keep up the good work. The job is nowhere near complete. The pitch looks pretty dead so we are going to have to get a big score here if we want to win this match.

Crowd seems to be slowly and gradually building up...particularly in shady areas. Hopefully by mid afternoon we will have a good crowd in.

that was the thing that impressed me most! it seems like there is a fair few there - seems like the free tickets has worked,

well for yk to have 5 good series in a row, would be incredible but unlikely

Butt needs to continue to concentrate. He has to grind out a big score here. He must not get frustrated with Giles and try to contiune to pick him off.

Younis needs to quietly build and play his normal game. I hate to make predictions or claims but 250 odd for 2 or 3 wickets by the end of today would be a great day 1 for us.

never say never - the guy has had so much stick over the years its unbelievable! i have defended the guy from the bbc message board (about 2 years ago now) and he had loads of critics then, slowly but surely he has turned a lot of them around especially with his form of late!
there are a few who still dont give him full credit BUT i guess ppl struggle to admit they are wrong - i would love nothing more than to see YK smash england silly! GO YK GO :27: :27:

Just woke up. I just had a dream Pakistan got up to 100 with only 1 wicket gone. Anyway whats the latest, how many gone?

martin luther king had a dream also , only he didnt live to see it . so good luck entra

wow Entra.. even I have more accurate dreams than yours. You need to improve on your sleep patterns.

YK is looking very good at the moment specially against Giles, Salman is playing well also.

With Moyo, Inzi and Raza to come Pakistan are looking very strong anuthing below 500 would be a dissapointment.

Did anyone see this increidbly funny scene in the beginning during one of the first boundaries hit? These 4 kids were waving a pakistan flag and one slapped the other one just for fun but it turned out to be a pretty sharp slap since he ahd to reach out. Full the other kid got ****** and started a punga and the camera then panned away.
classic!

come what may , yk wont be seen in the one day outfit for a bit

at first i used to say he shudnt be in the ODI team BUT i reckon he is useful to the side - he is a good fielder and he really lifts the confidence of the side! some critics say he is a glorfied cheerleader BUT who cares aslong as we win eh?
imo it was no coincidence that we lost the the first 2 ODI's to Indian when YK wasnt playing BUT we won the next 4 when he was

i can give u loads of examples
nfl
boxing
ncaa
nba
beyonce

women dont count ;-)

BUT the others cudnt be stopped - just like blacks getting into football here in the UK! all it took was one team accepting them, then the rest had to otherwise they would have lost out on good players

Raz, its on Vodafone 3G totally free. Toony, the battery runs for a while but you need to charge it periodiclly after a few hours.

I expect the crowds to build up as the day goes on and Multani's hear that Pakistan is doing well. Afridi not playing, has halfed the number of expected fans.

So it is live then as in action as it happens?

Mmm.. not panicing yyet.

Even if Pakistan post 400+ they've still got one fewer bowler than England and is Malik really going to get away with bowling that many overs? Still I think England will miss Jonah from around the 50 over mark..

Pak need to score 1000 runs on the first day and another 500 by lunch tomorrow - will not be satisfied with anything less.
damn straight
Seriously though i am not too concerned by what has happened. The main aim now is the play on the youngsters patience. Probe away, probe, probe, probe and try him to force the runs with a rash shot. It's the way you sucker the youngsters and big hitters. Michael Clarke is our prime example.

Looks like Boothie and Raja are best of friends now....Wonder why Ramiz isn't wearing his trademark pink shirt :13:

thats atleast the 3rd time giles has bowled a juicy full toss to younis khan. got what it deserved.

still cant see whats harder to dispatch for 4
collingwoods half volleys at 60 miles per hour
or giles leg stump full juicy full tosses .
anyone who can sort this dilemma?

his wife sanjay isnt there making him wear it

Ramiz's pink shirt should be featured in the next TSN with a friendly appearence from Babu Toilet waala

hmmm ... packed offside field and flintoff keeping it nice and tight on or about off to salman. this will really test butt's patience.

the sooner Butt gets his 50 the better, will take a lot of pressure off him!
i hope i havnt jinxed him :(

flintoff pitches it up on middle this time and butt punches it past mid-on for 2 more. nicely driven.

haha GA, it looks like you're more nervous than the two out in the middle!

another afridi omission comment, this time from botham.

yeah man - it really is tough being a supporter :42:

why dont they just let the "afridi ommission" talk die?

nah GA, as i predicted, every time the commentators have nothing to say, they'll bring up afridi.

let me say I am VERY happy to see a good crowd here in Multan!!! Well done PCB! The crowd is currently cheering butt b/c he is on 49!

I think Pak are gonna have Kaneria from one end, and the seamers from the other in rotation. Malik will probably bowl 10-15 overs max per innings.

anyone have any idea about the temperature? is it hard for the english bowlers? are they tiring?
