England consolidated their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after an innings and 47 runs win over Pakistan in the first Test at Multan Cricket Ground in Multan on Friday (October 11).

The 2nd Test between the two teams will be in Multan as well and it is set to start from October 15. Will Pakistan be able to make a comeback or will this be another one-sided contest?

Anyone but Abrar

Shan is a loser, timid and defensive captain who has to no idea how to jot a Test win or draw. also his captaincy is having a negative impact on team, everybody knows he is a nepokid thus far no motivation in team

If England bat first, this will become a popcorn watch. I'd definitely play Nauman and Zahid and ask them to bowl all day. Uncle ka inteqaam is the only way to get 10 english wickets.

Hopefully, the pitch will be more bowling friendly. Otherwise, it's too boring to watch.

Happy to see Brook and Root bat so well. Want to see them on a bowling friendly wicket for the remaining two matches.

It is worth noting that October 19 is my birthday, and I have put my neck on the line for this team. I expect a lovely gift from them in the shape of a series leaving victory.
Good wishes in advance. Let's hope Pakistan can come back with something .

Shouldn't be another one sided thrashing or it'll be the death knell for Test cricket in Pakistan.

Reports that Imam ul Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mir Hamza, Nauman Ali and M. Huraira will all feature in the second test.

Kamran definitely should be in. Maybe in place of Babar now. About time.

Hamza of course will replace Shaheen. Noman will replace Abrar.

Although playing both Huraira and Imam means both Abdullah and Saim could be out. Which I don't think is the right way to go about changing openers like clothes everyday.

I really wish mir Hamza had played the first test. He would have been fun to watch with his 120ks thunderbolts against this england lineup. LOL

That mir Hamza guy is an embarrassment to fast bowlers. Female cricketers are faster than him.

I can't wait for England to decimate him.

I really pray that your birthday is not ruined because this team broke many hearts before.

Btw my Birthday is also a day apart from yours. I'd also love for the team to pleasantly surprise me

what changes do you expect in playing 11 ?

Yesterday Nasir said even if the pitch for 2nd Test is roughed-up not much turn should be expected as the pitch is like a concrete slab . Wonder if just letting it be extra dry by not watering on last 2 days might produce a surface where we do not see a boring run-fest & 350 be a good score .... what do you guys think ?

What are the bowling options in the squad other than 4 which played 1st game ?
btw talk of Stokes being fit yesterday - it will be difficult keeping the bowling balance as his being able to bowl is highly unlikely .

I think Imam, Mir Hamza and another specialist spinner will be added.

Babar and Shaheen need a break probably and is Khurram fit again?

June 10th was my birthday. It was also the same day pakistan vs India took place in 2024 wc.

Wanna guess the result of that game?

Pakistan cricket team doesn't care about mine or your birthday. They will lose and make sure wishes don't come true.

So word of advice, anyone who has their birthday, Celebrate it, Cherish it, spend time with your loved ones and kuda kei wastei, turn off your tv that day because watching pak cricket is the perfect way to ruin your cake.

Will England face another 'shocking Test-match pitch' in Multan?

Only in cricket do we get so hung up about the pitch the sport is played upon.

England may have taken a 1-0 lead in their Test series against Pakistan, but one of the talking points as records tumbled was the 22-yard strip in Multan.

And it could be more of the same in the second Test, which begins on Tuesday, as the two teams meet again at the same venue.

So what should the England and Pakistan bowlers expect once they have put their feet up for a day or two and rested their weary limbs? And why was there such a fuss about this latest pitch?

What was so 'shocking' about pitch?

The placid nature of the Multan surface made batting look easy at times in the first Test - well, if you came from Yorkshire that is!

Harry Brook, who became England's first triple centurion for 34 years, shared a partnership of 454 with Joe Root, beating the previous best of 411 made by Colin Cowdrey and Peter May 57 years ago.

It came as England posted 823-7 declared - the fourth-highest total in Test history - in response to Pakistan's 556, before bowling the hosts out for 220 on the final day.

Former England captain Michael Atherton pulled no punches with his assessment of the pitch used for the match.

"It's a shocking Test-match pitch," Atherton said on Sky Sports.

"If you don't have that balance between bat and ball, you're going to get a lot of poor cricket. So not a good pitch despite the fact there was a result."

Ex-England skipper Nasser Hussain said the surface was typical of pitches in Pakistan and that the end result "does not justify everything that went before it".

So exactly how much of a bowlers' graveyard was the pitch for the first Test?

Well, since Test cricket returned to Pakistan in 2019 there have been 16 Tests where ball-tracking has been available to Cricviz.

Of those 16 Tests, this Multan pitch produced the second-lowest amount of average swing (0.63 degrees) but was the third-highest when it came to seam (0.53°).

It is perhaps the spinners who toiled the most - certainly Pakistan's - with the amount of drift being the lowest of all 16 Tests (1.16°) and it was the fourth-lowest amount of turn (2.86°) seen in that time.

When England were victorious in Multan on their last tour of Pakistan in 2022, the highest score in the match was made by the hosts in the fourth innings - 328 - as England wrapped up a 26-run win.

'Roll it up, take it with me'

Former England seamer Steven Finn took a closer look at the pitch expected to be used for the second match.

"It looks wet at the moment but over the course of the next three days it will dry and be shaved down," Finn said.

"Getting the ball spinning and moving laterally, I think, is the way Pakistan can beat England - if they can at all.

"If they play them on 'shirt fronts' like they did during this first Test match it is England all the way."

Atherton, though, expects the groundstaff in Multan to serve up another featherbed.

"I don't see how the pitch in three days [for the next Test] can be much different to what we've just had quite frankly," he said.

England's bowling attack might not necessarily agree with him, but Brook would not mind if he has to take guard on another batter-friendly deck.

"It was an unreal wicket. I would like to roll it up and take it with me," the Yorkshire batter joked.

Hang on, why is the second Test also in Multan?

The venue for England's second Test in Pakistan was switched less than two weeks before the series began.

It had been due to be played in Karachi, but was shifted because of renovation work at the National Stadium.

There were suggestions that some or all of the series could be moved out of Pakistan to another country. The United Arab Emirates was mentioned as a possible destination.

England's third Test against Pakistan - 24-28 October - will be held in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan are set to host the Champions Trophy early next year with Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi reported to be hosting the games.

Could pitch influence England's selection?

England look set to make a least one change for the second Test with captain Ben Stokes likely to be available.

Stokes has not played since the beginning of August because of injury, which allowed Brydon Carse to make his Test debut.

But Carse's impressive performance with the ball would make him difficult to drop.

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir finished with match figures of 1-156 from 38 overs, which would appear to make his place in the team vulnerable.

There have been seven Test matches at Multan since the ground opened in 2001 and only three bowlers have ever taken more than five wickets in an innings there - Abrar Ahmed, Danish Kaneria and Anil Kumble.

The common theme? They are all leg-spinners.

England do have a leg-spinner in their squad in the form of Rehan Ahmed, who took 5-48 on his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi in 2022.

If England are looking for a different spin option, the 20-year-old could come into contention.

As per reports:

Ahead of the second Test match against England, the PCB will put Imam Ul Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Nauman Ali, and Zahid Mehmood through fitness tests.

Reports of Sufyan Muqeem also replacing Abrar.

Sufyan has never played a FC red ball match. Imagine debuting him against BazzBall England?!

I guess England cricket became a brand like this, might as well give it a go!

Pak needs to look at switching up the Saim-Shafique opening pair. It just isn't working.

Maybe Shan can move up and split them.

I fear the wicket will be the same.
If England bat first, it could be even worse than the last Test.

It is astonishing that the “brains trust” behind the Pakistan team don’t realise that the flatter the wicket, the more likely the better team is to always win.
If you are the inferior team (which Pakistan clearly are) you should play on really bowler friendly surfaces, as it simply becomes much more of a lottery…. chance and luck play a bigger role, and you might just sneak a result.

Despite the exciting end result of the last Test, there is no place worse to watch Test cricket than Pakistan.

It won’t be the same now.

They should go for a spin wicket if it’s possible to make one in a short amount of time in that stadium. Pick your best players of spin and hope for the best. Babar clearly wasn’t one of them.

Kamran, Saud, Agha and maybe add Sarfaraz

This. Weaker teams should always make bowler friendly surfaces in Test cricket to bridge the gap.

Adopt the low block.

If batting first, deadball it for 4.5 days.
Otherwise just cancel the tour.

A test too late. They should have hit the panic button after the Banglawash.

But I feel it's going to be even more painful to lose 3-0 even after making wholesale changes.

If Sufyeen Muqeem debuts, he will be the first PAK cricketer to make his FC debut in a Test match since "17" year old Yasir Ali in 2003

I expect another flat track. Pakistan’s best chance to be competitive would have been to find bowlers who can take wickets in the first 25 overs of the innings. I would have picked 4 pacers and also included a 90 mph bowler. At the moment the only 90 mph Pakistani bowler I can think of is Hasnain.

Why not go for Rameez jnr who had a decent first class as a leggie last year and seems to be in the wickets in president trophy

Sufyan will be an awful selection

Fakhar zaman on these types of wickets can definitely be a great choice

Khurram is also injured. Which is a big miss because since his debut he has looked the best Test pacer in Pakistan.

Fakhar Zaman has always been my test opener choice.

A horses for courses selection process is the way forward for Pakistan at the moment, when you have a entire team not performing. Bring in players who are performing in first class cricket

Faisal Akram is a better test option than Sufyan Muqeem. Muqeem is a better white ball option. Either way won’t matter. We are a poor team. It’s been a long journey to get here, but we are here now. It will take years to snap out of this, that is if we ever will.

💯

Need guys like Rameez jnr, Dahani, Ghulam etc who have actually performed in FC cricket.

If the pitch for the next test is same as the previous test heads should roll irrespective of the results.

Also, must say that the Pakistani fans are not doing their best to support their team. Crowd support is one of the main advantages of the home venue, and the empty stadiums are providing none of that. Too much has been made that Cricket needs to come back to Pakistan for betterment of Pakistani cricket, but if the stadiums are that empty despite hosting a team full of stars like England, then there was no need for cricket to come back to Pakistan. At least the U A E pitches had something for spinners in them.

And it's a Aussy as the head curator who is over seeing these roads

Pitch for second test is ready:genius

Everyone has been summoned, aleem dar has become a selector 😄

The pitch will be a road again and the same batsmen will play again , only guaranteed casualty is the walking injury prone player that is abrar.

Expect more humiliation and shan massood still in learning mode.

It's safe to say pakistan cricket is done for there is zero talent or proper fc structure or sporting wickets to produce any decent level player.

Even our so called superstars like babar and shaheen look in decline.

They can leave the pitch uncovered and let it bake in the sun

It'll spinning from day 1

Not difficult

It won't because the pitch isn't breaking up even the English commentators are saying it's like someone's dropped a concrete slab on top .

Well it actually was doing something by day 4

So a whole week would be more than enough time

Results under wasim.khan were very solid at home.

under Naqvi team Pakistan are breaking all sorts of records
