It has been one-way traffic in the one-day international series between Pakistan and Australia so far, with Aaron Finch and his team rallying to an unassailable lead of 3-0 quite comfortably.

Overview

Pakistan v Australia
4th ODI
Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
Friday, 29 March, 3:00pm local time, 11:00am GMT

Very few things have gone Pakistan's way so far in the series. While skipper Shoaib Malik has repeatedly said that they are using it just to test their bench strength, the lack of contest in all three games is a cause of concern.

The bowling attack has been chopped and changed, but Pakistan have still been unable to restrain the resurgent Australian batsmen, particularly Finch, who has recorded two centuries and a 90 in the series so far.

Mohammad Amir's lack of returns led to him getting axed in the third ODI, while Yasir Shah, usually their trump card in these conditions, has been rendered ineffective. The experienced Junaid Khan, who was brought back into the XI in the third game, will be expected to spearhead the pace attack.

The story isn't too bright on the batting front as well: Pakistan were unable to set a 300-plus target in the first two ODIs, and crumbled for 186 all-out while chasing in the third. A lot will depend on the experienced Malik, who has scored 11, 60 and 32 so far. Much will also be expected from Umar Akmal, who has gotten starts but hasn't been able to convert them into big scores.

Shoaib Malik will shoulder a bulk of responsibility Shoaib Malik will shoulder a bulk of responsibility
Australia, meanwhile, have hit form right before the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019. They were victorious in just three ODIs since January 2018, but have now won six on the trot. The wheels that had fallen off have now been fixed, and the ride looks smooth again.

Finch has been in splendid form, and on Wednesday, fell just 10 runs short of becoming the first Australian to register three consecutive ODI centuries. Usman Khawaja, his opening partner, fell for a duck in the third ODI, but had crossed 85 four times in five innings before that. Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell also contributed in the middle order.

Meanwhile, Adam Zampa and Nathan Coulter-Nile have reaped rewards from the dry surfaces in UAE, and are the leading wicket-takers in the series. Pat Cummins, who came in for the third ODI, also hit the ground running with a three-wicket haul.

Key players

Aaron Finch (Australia): This is a no-brainer. The Australia skipper has pulled himself out of a rut with outstanding performances over the last few weeks. He has accumulated 359 runs at 179.50 in the series so far, and seems to have regained his mojo before the World Cup.

Shoaib Malik (Pakistan): For Pakistan to have a chance in the fourth ODI, it will be important for Malik to anchor the innings and play a big knock in the middle. He is the fulcrum around which their batting line-up revolves and with regulars like Sarfaraz Ahmed, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam rested for the series, a bulk of the responsibility falls on Malik's shoulders.

Conditions

While showers are predicted for Thursday, the weather forecast for Friday shows clear skies. The last time Pakistan played at this venue, Lockie Ferguson wreaked havoc with a five-wicket haul. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Australian pacers this time around.

Pat Cummins will reportedly be wrapped in cotton wool and sent home from Australia’s ODI tour of the UAE early.

With the five-match series against Pakistan wrapped up in straight sets, all eyes have already turned to the World Cup and preparing Australia’s best fast bowler for the event.

The 25-year-old was rested for the first two games of the series before dominating the third to help seal Australia’s sixth ODI win in a row.

Now no further chances will be taken with the $2.5 million man, who is set to return to Australia this weekend, Daily Telegraph reported.

Cummins is believed to be fully fit and is only being sent home to limit the risk of an untimely injury.

Australia’s fast bowling stocks are already depleted, with Josh Hazlewood (back), Mitchell Starc (pec) and Jhye Richardson (shoulder) all under injury clouds.

IPL time for him?

I expect Abid Ali to be given chance in place of Shan Masood today, although I would have liked to seen Shan play all 5 games for him to get a fair chance to show his capability or lack of it.

Why can't they bring Saud, Rauf and Umer for last 2 ODIs? Inzi is too stubborn and egoistic.

Shan has been getting out softly and seems very mad every time he does knowing full well he should've gone the distance with a good contribution.

Hopefully he cashes in today. I mean it'll be one performance, but he needs to string something together before the WC with whatever chances he gets.

UPDATE: Shoaib Malik ruled out of today’s ODI due to a bruised rib from Friday’s match; Imad Wasim to captain, Saad Ali to make debut in the only change from 3rd ODI.

Expect many Pakistani batsmen to cash in, now that the pressure is off, and series is lost.

On another note, Imad as captain.

Obsession with Yasir??????

One of Imam/Shan to cash in.

Umar to cash in.

Haris to cash in.

Nice they should have also dropped Imam or Umar to give Abid a chance

Here comes a blistering knock from Akmal & a 5for coming Yasir’s way .. nothing to loose attitude kicks in lmao

Fair to say Abid was on a holiday & he ain’t going to the World Cup... trying to work out Inzi’s master plan here 🤦🏽*♂️ Lmao

Malik's injured.
Pretty convenient.

Not that i am complaining.I would be okay with an 'injured' Malik in the Odi worldcup.

Mohammad Amir will now only get 1 match to get selected for the WC and why is Yasir Shah playing now that it is pretty much impossible for him to make the WC Squad. Also, Hasnain should have been rested this match.

Inzi may select both Abbas and Yasir in place of Amir and Shadab for the World Cup 2019.

Why isn't Abid playing?

And why is Yasir??

Yup, we can expect anything from him.

Even he got humiliated by Imran Khan he keeps persist on his selection. I though he was honest but turn out to be one of worst. How come people pray and dishonest at the same time?

Obsession with Yasir??????

Unfortunately there is no other spin bowling option in the 15 hence the mgt is forced to play Yasir every game. I thought they could have called Umer Khan in the squad in place of Faheem.

Bruised ego too.

why on earth have aus left out jason beherendorff? And what was the point of bringing cummins to the squad if you were gonna rest him after 1 game? Would have liked to see turner come in for stoinis. Or handscob's wicket keeping could have been tested

Good that we will see two new batsmen,; I don't believe about injuries,I think there has been pressures applied to try alternatives.
Why Yasir, when Imad and Harris can do the honours for slow bowling, they are no worse than Yasir in this format. We should have given opportunity to Amir to show if he has any form going to world cup, but I suspect his inclusion is already decided.

To win the match so they can win the series maybe.

First international captain for Imad
Malik as usual backing off when bit of pressure on him

Haris Sohail giving caps
This isn’t what these debutants would have dreamt

This series has been nothing but a disaster. What should have been a prep for the WC, they playing tried and tested experiments before the WC selection. It should have been full strength team playing this series. They should have taken new players to try in during the series. How can they play with Pakistan Team fans, and not aiming to win the series, thats why they are selected to represent and play for Pakistan. Imad should have been Captain from game 1 and Malik should have been Rested too.

Why does the commentator keep on disrespecting pakistan?
"When he plays BETTER teams"

Some tough competition going on between the pacers for the WC squad.

Instead of faheem ashraf, I will take Abbas to have him as a trump card for those overcast conditions...

Abbas will be the bowler no batsman would want to face under overcast conditions...

Weather is expected to be warm in June. Abbas no but i am tempted to take Musa, he looks promising and can be an asset.

My concern is lately his accuracy hasnt been as good as like an year ago even in tests. With his pace he cant afford to be inaccurate like we saw in the 2nd ODI vs Aus.

143 KPH from Usman Khan! Good stuff! Much better than 130 KPH thunderbolts from Amir. Shinwari always gives his 120% and Amir always gives his 20%.

There is always one batsman or bowler in the opposition which Pak makes to look like the next legend. It was Oliver in the SA tests, its Finch this time in ODIs.

Just shows that team management and players dont study the opposition players well.

Remember how we made Colin De Grandhomme look like the next Hadlee? :)))

Khawaja is 8 off 22, dont think Aus coach will be too impressed.

Even the Aussie commentator is praising Shinwari and his quite impressed with his bowling and pace.

Yeah but finch had similar stats yesterday. It's not about how u start it's about how u end it.

Yes I agree but, sometimes when you dont make it big end like like this it can be a problem for you going forward as caoch is definitely gonna ask some questions.

Pakistan seriously struggling to take wickets up front against good sides with renown batsman. We saw the same story in the Asia cup where Dhawan and Sharma were having an open net session against our medium pacers and now Khwaja an Finch continuing.

Pakistan is missing an Ace fast bowler who wants to strike early up!

First ODI wicket for Hasnain and that also of in form Finch. Good stuff

Good to see Junaid and Shinwari giving tips to Hasnain

I am getting the old pak flavor after a long long time
Two rookies are being debuted. Exciting.

Hasnain is a very smart bowler, he knows he needs to bowl 10 overs in the Dubai heat - isn't bowling at 150 KPH or pushing himself too hard.

Good pace nonetheless.

What a bowl to Marsh, getting his first wicket will definitely settle him

Hoping to see Imad bat up the order. His bowling is as good as useless in these conditions unfortunately.

Guy has to do well in remainig two matches.

Yes I think he will do well. Sometimes we are too early to judge a player, it takes players few matches to settle in to pressure of international cricket. We saw the same progression with Shaheen as well.

Hasnain was a bit unlucky that he couldnt be progressed through T20s first to ODIs like Shaheen bcz WC is just months away.

Lightening quick from Rizwan. Dhoni-esque stumping. Within a millisecond the bails were off!

Just started watching after knowing that Malik isn't captaining today and a wicket on 1st ball :)

If only we would have got Finch ealier in the series that it would have been a more competitive series in my opinion.

We really need to study players and there weaknesses well before any series
