Thats most Pakistani batsmen since the 2000 era. Including Inzi/Moyo who have always struggled against the best pace bowlers.

He struggles against crap pacers as well if he looks to score runs, that is why he has failed in ODIs.

Inzamam and MoYo were much better equipped at taking them on. Watch Inzamam's knocks against Ambrose and Walsh.

Hafeez is doing better than I expected. Good thing Dorthi has not left the Kansas [emoji851][emoji851]

I dont get it. What does this have to do with wizard of oz

Hafeez has got a start here so needs to make the most of it now as hes got out in poor fashion in the series.

[MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION] acting as if he didn't ride Malik's bandwagon when he scored his double hundred on his comeback when infact he was the one glorifying him and jumping up and down in euphoria like a crazy girl when Malik was on song, but now when the opposite has happened, he has the audacity to target his critics.

I am critical of his batting position, not his inclusion. I was against him batting at 3 before the first Test and nothing has changed since.

His critics think he is crap which I don't agree with.

Secondly, watch your language. I don't mind exchanging pleasantries but only with posters who have achieved some credibility, not newbies.

True. ODI's are a different story altogether for Younis

You will get it when we land in England. People forget when last time Hafeez was outside Kansas (home), torture of Styen is still fresh in our memories.

But for now we can enjoy him at home !!

Hafeez needs to score a 100 here, at a fast rate to put England out of the equation.

You sir are a legend

Beauty by the best player of spin in the world currently along with AB and amla

Need to make sure we go after the spinner but dont gift them any cheap wickets.

Really isn't fair to expect Moeen to block one end and take wickets too. Even Lyon was treated like a part-timer by the Pakistani batsmen.

England need better spinners. Ali is not gonna trouble anyone if the batsman decides to play safe. And Rashid to some extent.

Let's hope these two can bat until stumps and set things up for some no-holds barred cameos from Misbah and Safraz.

He is good at surviving, but cannot dominate them.
If he was 'weak' against pace, he'd bat like Malik at number 3.

I hope you've now realised that not dominating pacers has more to do with his batting style than being weak against pace.

This Critical Analyst guy seems like a fake profile too who got himself banned earlier, but I am struggling with his identity which is not normal. Any guesses?

Which hater of mine was given the marching orders lately? :jf

lol yeah you certainly have lots of haters here.

ha, Stokes treated with disdain. No less than that ball deserved, what a lazy long-hop

Poor shot by hafeez, loose and lucky to get away with that!

He is better against pace than Malik, because he has better defensive game. That does not mean that he is not ordinary against pace himself, which he most definitely is.

A good player of pace is capable of dominating them, and that is why he has molded his playing style around dominating spinners and surviving pacers, which works well for him.

Not sure how it will work in England/Australia next year, considering he failed on the pacy and bouncy wickets of SA 3 years ago when he was younger.

Can you name a more inferior player of fast bowling in the 50 average club?

If Younis is a good player of pace because he is better than Malik who by no means good enough to be a top-order Test batsman, than there is nothing much to add.

Can't believe I'm arguing the point that Younis is not an accomplished player of pace bowling.

In last year or so it's disappointing to see how we play seamers and pacers, even on these wickets we cannot score against them or defend them with authority. I wonder UAE is making our batters even worse player of fast bowling?? [emoji848][emoji848]

We are just scoring against spinners even in UAE[emoji15][emoji15]

Well said. All of them are chickens against pace.

Pak 41/2 - Lead 177

Ideally we need 1 batsmen to get a big hundred in this inns

Why the hostility man? I am only highlighting your double standards, and as a credible and reputable poster on PP you shouldn't deny your fanboyism for Malik not too long ago but rather accept it, because now that roles have been reversed, you feel embarrassed accepting your former behavior for the sake of losing reputation on PP.

Its traditional Pakistani way of batting to score against the spinners and block out the faster bowlers.

Misbah has made a career out of this batting this way. Lesser so Younis. But pretty much a similar pattern is seen in most of our innings.

Hafeez seems good enough to take on faster bowlers but gives his wicket away as well.

There is a little doubt Younis is one of the worse player of pacers in 50 club, but there is also a little doubt that he is best player of spin in the same elite club.

He is monster against spinners, that why such a high average in 3/4 innings. That is the reason he is in 50 club and highest scorer of Pakistan. [emoji855][emoji855]

i aree with everything u say but struggle to think how u r banking on shafiq to score overseas when he is equally bad and in fact cant even dominate spinners.

No hostility, but I don't appreciate personal attacks because I never initiate them.

What are you talking about and what is your point? Yes I like Malik and I think he has a role to play in all three formats (not overseas Tests), but I don't agree with his batting position.

If I were embarrassed of supporting Malik, I wouldn't be saying right now that yes 'I do want him in the team in all formats'.

How can I make it clearer for you?

See, that's where I disagree. An ordinary player of pace wouldn't be a able to survive against them for so long and so consistently and average above 50 at number 3.

I've never claimed that he's great against pace, all I'm saying is that calling him weak or ordinary is a bit harsh.

He is by no means an excellent player of pace but he's definitely good enough.

Interesting theory that will be put to the test next year.

Yes agree with this. You can't score 30 Test tons and average 50 if you are poor against both pace and spin.

I think you can see his weakness against pace come to the fore in ODIs. He can scratch around in Tests and wait for spinners to come, but in ODIs has to score against pace and he is found wanting.

We will have to agree to disagree on this. I won't say he's good enough against pace, but rather average.

One of the best players of spin to play in the last 15-20 years though.

Went for few hours sleep & the Poms have shown their true colors. I still believe, it's a 10 wicket match for Yasir to take (against a country, for whom mighty Ghame Thorpe (& Mike Gatting) was the best ever spin players, as my buddy Roberts said). PAK must keep attacking - these Poms are not going to chase 300 on 4th innings - only way hey have a small chance is PAK do a Misbah & score 65 in next 40 overs for sometimes ENG to knock few in short span.

By the way, the brain (s) that was (were) behind ra*ing that Abu Dhabi wicket needs to be washed (& the brain (s) that still believe that Sohaib Malik should bat at the spot which once was slotted for the Vivs & Bradmans...).

Asad at the age of 30 is better equipped to handle pace than a 40 year old Younis.

Well we have two empirical results already, WC 2015 and last SA tour. Both validated this theory, more to see in next 18 months.

We had worse batting lineup then many minnows in WC, in SA most of the team was on vacation not really on job.

Lets be very honest. Despite Pakistan cricket being played most of it in UAE pattas, Younis should be credited for keeping Pakistan relevant. Otherwise the way we were isolated from International cricket for the last 5-6 years, we would be finished as a cricketing country by now.
We played no other team than Srilanka and South Africa for most of the time.

Also england once.

Reward for our consistency is teams allowing to tour them abroad after 5-6 years.

That means its a HUGE lift for us financially and in the long term as a cricketing fraternity.

Our isolation meant we were almost finished.

shehzad is the only one who enjoys pace n probably the only guy who is better against pace than spin.
he struggles with lateral movt though

Akmal has the best pace/spin preference ratio but hes a retard these days

Doesn't matter what Shehzad "enjoys" more. We saw how impeccable he was and how much he enjoyed pace during the WC.

Moeen bhai is hands down the worst first-choice spinner in the world.

This is one department where we truly trump England and a lot of other teams except India and Sri Lanka. At least something we can be proud of.

Rashid being treated like the club level bowler that he is.

Didn't expect Wahab to cause destruction.

After seeing the scoreline, I thought Yasir would have been the chief destroyer.

Credit to Wahab for an excellent spell.

There is no doubt all Pakistani players bar Hafeez/Azhar to some extent are extremely poor players of pace, I wonder what will they do in seaming English and NZ conditions when there won't be much spin on offer for them feast on.

so? even at this age he struggles to time the ball.
we saw his calibre against pace in the first innings where he was stuck on 80 for ages n could do nothing once the momentum went against him.
no matter how bad younis is, had he been in that situation, he would hv still completed his hundred
younis still gets more leverage coz of his height n has a stronger botom hand.
shafiq can only defend n pick singles, that too on these tracks.
overseas, he would go nowhere with such style of play
