Good to see how pumped the pakistani fans are. Here's hoping the same is the case with the pakistan team as well.

Can't see why a full strength pak team shouldn't maul the grampa Xi (looking at you Dhoni, Rayudu, Karthik, and jadhav).

Shameless as Dhoni & co are, I hope he and his mediocre buddies are humiliated at least twice again this tournament.

Just a heads up guys new pitch is being used which should have more pace. 300 might be par.

Need to play two spinners and extra batsman. I think rest asif ali and usman for shadab and amir.

insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Pak fans should lower their expectations.

That doesn’t work for the Pakistan cricket team. We are back to being the most unpredictable team in world cricket.

Just one factor defines whether Pakistan will win or not.

Will fakhar fire?

If yes, Pakistan has chance. If no, say bye bye.

Shinwari was poor versus India and Afghanistan. He needs to be dropped. Amir is better than Junaid so I would get him back in the team. Shaheen started well so I would like to see him given a run as he offers something different compared to our other bowlers. Would select Nawaz over Faheem in these conditions. Don't need 4 seamers in the UAE and Nawaz also did a good job with the ball against Afghanistan. Shadab comes straight back in due to his ability in all 3 facets.

I would take Haris out. He isn't the best versus spin and he would have to bat at 4 as the top 3 won't be changed. So I would wait till we are playing outside of Asia before sloting him in at 4. Asif Ali should be persisted with as he is a type of batsmen we don't have but he needs to show he can bat time. Lasting 10 balls or so isn't good enough for international cricket so I would like to see something from him if he gets enough time at the crease.

Shadab in for UKS, 2 proper spinners and a much better bat. Unfortunately can't drop Sarfaraz :((

If we bat first and top 4 take us till 35 overs, easy win for Pak

Match will be played on a new track ... hopefully it will be better for the fast bowlers.

Faheem and Shadab must be back in the XI, Amir too.

Ali, Usman and Haris out.

Good points, however, on the Asif vs Haris argument you cannot really go with the temperament argument since Haris's shot was arguably worse than Asif's. Haris being a proper bat and Pakistan having just lost 2 set batsman had no business playing that garbage shot. His dismissal is what set the cat amongst the pigeons of the Pakistani camp. Before that time we were coasting to victory.

Yes Haris had a poor game but I would back Haris more on these wickets than “one six wonder” Asif.

If it comes down to chasing less than 300 - Haris’ temperarement will be more useful. With some form - he can negate Bhuvneshwar, Jadav, Jadeja without much fuss.

If Rayudu fires it's a problem for the future. If he doesnt, it's a problem in this series. Pick your poison

India will love it if Pak plays this XI. Only 4 batsmen in it means another sub-200 score will be on the cards and India will chase that 9/10 times.

1. Fakhar Zaman (please click!)

2. Imam ul-Haq (can't really drop him)

3. Haris Sohail (can't accelerate as well as Babar, no use if he comes later than 30+ over, batting at 3 gives him more time to settle too)

4. Babar Azam

5. Shoaib Malik

6. Sarfraz Ahmed (really needs to step up)

7-8. 2 of Faheem Ashraf/Shadab Khan/Mohammad Nawaz (if it's a new track, take Faheem+Shadab, otherwise take both spinners)

9. Hasan Ali

10. Mohammad Amir (needs to go off)

11. Junaid Khan

I think India night start playing KL Rahul going forward in this tournament.

1. Rohit
2. Dhawan
3. KL Rahul
4. Rayadu
5. Dhoni
6. Jhadav
7. Jadeja
8. Bhuvi
9. Kuldeep
10. Chahal
11. Bumrah

Hopefully we lose due to middle order collapse. If we win it must also be done by middle order.Win or lose we need a definitive judgement on dhoni and the middle order, need some clarity on which ones need to permanently dropped. Please not another win by opening pair.Expose the middle order, force them to perform,be exposed rather than allowing them to hide and keep their place for another tournament.

I don’t get how Shinwari keeps getting in, he was awful for KK and is not the man for crunch situations. On these tracks we containing pace bowlers, for that you need control which he doesn’t have.

If we opt for then 3 pacers so Amir, H.Ali and Shaheen however I don’t necessarily think we need 3 and would be swap HA for Faheem as he adds depth to our batting and has enough control to go for less then 40.

Other change would be Shadab for Haris and have him bat at 5, he’s got it in him to play a long innings.

Pakistan's batting is too weak, one of the reasons is that Malik and Sarfaraz bat too high. Of course, Malik is very adept at bashing the minnows but struggles against stronger opponents. It also has to be noted that Malik was primarily an all-rounder and not a proper batsman. The issues with Safaraz are well documented on this forum so will leave it at that.

We need to develop a proper batting unit from 1-6 now that we've rid of the deadweight including Hafeez, Umar Akmal etc. Can't just rely on Fakhar, Babar and at times Malik as he bailed us out against the Afghans so credit where credit is due.

We are not going to beat india in this tournament let alone tomorrow's game.
We needed a specialist spinner on these pitches.
Yaisr Shah has the experience of these conditions and would have been a better option. He would have done wonders in tandem with Shahdab Khan.

Asif Ali deserves a long run. He may not do brilliantly in uae but on English phattas he could become a match winner with quickfire 50s and 60s.
I back sarfraz at 4 despite his failures. He keeps moving up and down the order he needs to stay at number 4 for an extended period if time.
Shadab and nawaz ensure batting till number 8 plus a handy tail.
The only concern I have is that out of our top 6 batsmen only 3 are in form.

I need to see a doctor. My blood boils when I see Haris Sohail in anybody's team

Pretty optimistic that India will win this one. Pakistani players have self created this pressure on themselves by constantly talking abt India Pakistan asia cup games. Indian team is fairly relaxed because 70% of players know that even if they lose, it doesn't risk their position in the squad and other 30% know that no matter how much well they perform, they ain't getting into the squad.

Good post. You have touched on some important points.

Tomorrow's line up is pretty difficult to decide/predict. I think there are two big questions that need deciding:

Haris or Asif?

This is very difficult. Two players I rate highly for different reasons and both would be in my line up for WC19. However UAE conditions are a different kettle of fish and based on the conditions/balance of the team only one of them can play tomorrow.

On the one hand we have Haris. If we lose early wickets, Haris and Babar at 3 and 4 would be the perfect foil and they could bat the majority of overs to post a competitive score. As you have mentioned only 2-3 of the batsmen have shown form which makes this choice all the more appealing. He also adds a bowling option.

However, Haris is at his best against pace and bounce and gets a little strangled against spin in LOIs. In sum, he would play Bumrah and Bhuvi well but might struggle to score against India's 3.5 spinners tomorrow. Also, as we saw in the game vs Afghanistan if Fakhar/Imam/Babar bat 35 overs between them then Haris is not really needed.

On the other hand, we have Asif Ali. He can win matches single-handedly. If the top five bats 35 overs or so, he will have the perfect platform to launch. If they don't, he will need to show self-control and maturity and bat time before launching. He showed great application in the most recent Pakistan Cup but his dismissal in the game vs Afghanistan was disappointing to say the least. Fakhar and Sarfaraz's lack of form makes this a risky selection but sending Sarfaraz in at four could be an inspired move given his excellent game against spin. Also if Shadab is fit then that would add some much needed depth to the batting and makes Asif's selection a lot less risky.

By the thinnest of margins I would go for Asif.

Amir, UKS or Junaid?

In terms of the bowling attack, two spinners are a must so Nawaz and Shadab are definite starters. SSA and Hasan are starting which leaves UKS/Amir/Junaid fighting for the final spot. Now Amir was dropped for the last game and personally I wouldn't mind if the management decides he should also sit out tomorrow. I think it will motivate Amir and with one eye on WC19 that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world (even if it ends up costing us the game tomorrow). I would play UKS.

Playing XI

In sum, I would make one change from your proposed XI, and play the following:

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Asif
Shadab
Nawaz
Hasan
Shaheen
UKS
