Pakistan vs New Zealand | 2nd ODI | Abu Dhabi | 6/11/09 | Pak innings

This is starting to get out of hand.

Latif is happy defending, when we really need to get a bit of a move on.
Butt hasn't found any kind of rhythm as of yet

25-0 after 7 overs.

A boundary an over is not really good enough. We need to be going at 6 an over.

Come on yaar, Razzaq is one of the biggest hitters of the cricket ball in world cricket. 89 from 40, 42 from 16, 51* off 22 are just a few examples of what he's done in international cricket.
I probably would prefer a big hitter earlier in the line up today since the target is big.

Latif only knows two things about batting..defend first 5 balls and then defend the 6th one too.

A banner reads BUM BUM afridi. The guy with the poster must be a real bum

Why on earth was Kamran Akmal demoted down the line up ? He is someone who can get boundaries on a regular basis. At least today he needed to be promoted up the attack since the target is a big one.

No worries guise, we've got off to a semi decent start.

Latif is making Kallis look like Viv Richards

we'r playin wayyyy too slow...should have started with malik and akmal

Openers giving Bond a phainty. Two runs off first two balls. 100 SR and RR of 6 an over

I've got absolutely no idea. The Akmal/Nazir combination was going quite well, we were getting decent starts and more importantly fairly brisk starts. Akmal has done very well as an opener of late, have got no idea why he's been shunted down the order. Our selectors have got no clue, when it comes to the openers and haven't had for a number of years.

Guys who is showing this in US and Canada? Zee sports is showing ICL while CBN is showing champions league.

Glorious from Butt. I repeat that I think he'll drop anchor and drive us home.

Easy guys, it's just the beggining. We still have the wickets intact. Batsmen are getting set, taking the shine off the ball, and seeing Bond off on his first spell. Required run rate at this point is ok, and can be brought back down with a couple of good overs.

It's much better than hitting a couple of big boundaries and then getting out and having the middle order face the new ball under pressure. I think they will accelerate in a couple of overs.

Have faith and patience.

latif has no footwork. if you dont have footwork, you better have an eye like sehwag! i hope he proves me wrong but he isnt that impressive.

ok..if you say so! :(

Enough boundaries so far, need fewer dot balls and more singles though!

No footwork, no technique... simply crap

Butt gets a lucky edge down past the keeper for 4.

38-0 after 9 overs. Things are starting to pick up thankfully.

Latif looks half decent so far, defending the good balls and looking to lash away the bad balls.

saying this will be eating all i said earlier but i guess i am brave enough to say this "butt and latif are kind of settling down great"

Wow, for a moment there I thought Latif was going through cover, but ended up going in the direction of mid wicket...

The orders have been given. Hide the children, the bash is on.

Beautiful shot by Latif. Forgive me for saying so but he played that shot like Sehwag.

last 5 overs for 32 runs. Things have picked up.

Looks like Butt while on non strikers end has texted to cricinfo

"I get the sense that most Pakistanis do not like this opening partnership, but although not setting the world alight so far today in terms of run rate, both look very secure and are building a platform for the more explosive talents of Shahid and Kamran Akmal down the order....shrewd cricket"

Beautifully put away by Latif. It was a poor delivery, overpitched, a low full toss and elegantly dispatched away to the extra cover boundary. No footwork, just stayed nice and still.

Last 5 balls have netted 13 runs.

44 for no loss; how often do we get to say that line with Pak openers!

Butt even refuses to take an easy single, which finally they make

Here is Butt's ODI record for 2009:

100* 117 v Sri Lanka Karachi 20-Jan-09
62 87 v Sri Lanka Karachi 21-Jan-09
0 1 v Sri Lanka Lahore 24-Jan-09
5 10 v Australia Dubai 22-Apr-09
57 112 v Australia Dubai 24-Apr-09
48 77 v Australia Abu Dhabi 27-Apr-09
2 3 v Australia Abu Dhabi 01-May-09
0 0 v Australia Abu Dhabi 03-May-09
0 4 v New Zealand Abu Dhabi 03-Nov-09

Not so bad for the amount of grief he gets.

He doesn't smack sixes like Nazir (in fact he hasn't hit a six in ODIs since the Windies series in Abu Dhabi last year) , but he can do a job

Latif has no footwork, ***, how can an opener not have any footwork, dude needs to have the hand-eye corordination like Sehwag to be a real force, doin well though touchwood,

47-0 after 10

9 runs came from that 10th over. Good going, now they both need to kick on and get 50s or all that hard work will have gone down the drain.

I think his decent/good innings get pushed aside by his tendency to get out very early. He's either bad, or good, and fickle fans remember the bad more than the good.

Must be one of pakistans better ODI starts in a long time!

Do they even remember the good? ;-)
