Pakistan vs South Africa - Warm up Match on March 9th

How did YoKh get 70-odd on an unplayable wicket?
You have to understand OZGOD - when South Africa are batting its an unplayable wicket, but when Pakistan bat it is a flat batting paradise. Get with it!

I think to make excuses about pitches is stupid......these things happen...one day they help you the next they don't....but I'm sure if pakistan batted first and the same thing happened (apparently the pitch dried up and became easy to bat on according to third party reports) ..I'm sure you would all be in tears...

its a meaningless warm up game....get over it....are you that desperate you need to make a big deal out of it ?

Who is making a big deal of winning this game? The only thing we are making a big deal of is the cry-baby mentality of the South African camp

Depends how you look at it ... the main bowlers were rested at the end the game to give the "political bowlers a chance" i.e. Telemachus and Peterson i.e. basically to say they did go to the World Cup and played in a game. Hate to say it, but they won't see any more games. Ntini is our only real non-white bowler and he didn't play today (due to birth of his child).

So back to bowling, Smith bowled over 5 overs of his attempts of spin. Prince even bowled an over. Peterson put down 6 overs of his pies (he shouldn't be in the team) and grandpa Telemachus bowled 5 overs. So that sums it up. The 5th bowling was shared between 5 bowlers and was actually over 18 overs due. Bowlers 1 to 4 not finishing their overs (at a lower rate). I guess Arthur/Smith have to experiment with the other bowlers, but why not do it during the series in SA, not in the final warmup game?

So Pakistan fans, don't jump up and down and get excited too much! :)

Well Pakistan have many positives to get out of first two warm up games, and these positives include Inzi and Hafeez batting in first match, Hafeez bowling in both matches, Gul and Sami bowling in second match, Younis, Hafeez and Yousaf batting in second match. Since most of these players were looking for some match practice and it was good to see them scoring or bowling well.

On the other hand, Mr. Saffy fan, you, Mr. Arthur and Smith should be somewhat worried about your batting since it is not clicking so well in both matches, which suggest that they could bat well only againts depleted Pakistani bowling or in home conditions only. Which may not be a good thing for a team with world no. 1 ranking and competing in world cup.

We all knew these were warm up matches but warm up matches doesnt mean to lose. Loss mean you dont have enough fire power in your backup, and in this case we couldnt call it backup since only Ntini was missing. In these conditions team rely on bowlers like Peterson but he was treated very badly.

Congratz to pak team its a bout time pak beat the saffies!

Younis Khan batted very well and yousuf supported to his usual high standards, his stand with younis was crucial.

The bowling was superb even without our main fast bowlers the saffies were skittled for 200. Muhammad Sami bowled well for his two wickets and gave away few runs and most importantly the pace was rapid which suggests we have some fire-power even without shoaib. The supporting bowlers also fired as a unit but it must be said with the exception of sami there is little variety.

The fielding was also sharp which is a encouraging sign. This may have only been a warm-up match but south africa are a tough side (especially for us) and this won has boosted the team and fans moral alhaamdulilaah.

Whilst Englands and India's matches were down-played (less than half-full-only warm-ups) pakistan draws the crowds and full stadium even for this warm-up game!

All eyes turn in eager anticipation to the opening game of the WORLD CUP pak v windies.....

My views are :

- Only a warm up so I wouldn't have been been bothered if we had lost

- The idea is to give people practice and gain some positives - so people like Sami, Gul, Hafeez, Moyo, YK - all got useful practice. Inzi and Akmal got time against Canada.

- Enough seen to suggest what I have been saying for some time.....we will be competetive and if we get to Semis - anybodys cup.

- Finally - on the pitch controversy. I'm not going to diss the Saffers because of their complaints. I will say the this , however : Suppose the situation had been reversed and Pakistan had problems batting first and Saffers cruised to victory batting second??? Me thinks that the Saffers coach may not have had too much sympathy for Pakistan and may not have complained too much about the pitch....... the talk may have revolved around a professional job being done etc.

Saying that - only a friendly - real stuff starts next week. Game on.
