COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, April 4 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya appears to have played his final test innings after dislocating his thumb on the second day of this second test against Pakistan on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old damaged the digit while catching Pakistan opener Imran Farhat in the morning session and was immediately taken to hospital with fitness trainer C.J. Clarke.
"There was no fracture but Sanath dislocated his thumb and spilt the skin right on the joint," physiotherapist Tommy Simsek told reporters during the tea interval.
"The joint is now back in place and they are stitching up the wound but it is very, very unlikely that he will play any further part in this test match.
"Based on what the doctors have said I think we are looking at him being out for four to five weeks.
Jayasuriya announced his retirement from test cricket on Friday, saying the completion of this match would mark the end of his career.
He scored 14 in the first innings as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 279, although he intends to continue playing one-day internationals through to the 2007 World Cup.

You know what, Umar Gul has been riding on the back of his success against India and hasnt really deserved a callup. Even i was a fan of his but now i know, everyone has the odd good day and his good day came and went.......

I understand but when he bowls an over that goes for one run and you make comments about Inzi kicked him in the nuts, thats going OTT. He isnt bowling now so we'll all be happy though

It has become rusty and such things are expected in a two test series. However, to blame Zaheer Abbas is utter stupidity.
 
I reckon we could drag Waqar from the sidelines in the middle of eating his parantha and he would do better than these guys.

Mod saab, it's not just about ONE good over.

The guy has been doing all match long. Why should I stiop because he's bowled ONE non-expensive over. I wish I could stop...but if he's not learning then he needs to be slammed.

Anyways..got to concentrate on the game and will try to leave that letch alone. Thank God he's off!

Loooooool. Its like all the rest of our seamers have become somewhat retarded. Even with the pitch doing something, even with Asif putting all the pressure on, they stick cant do crap all. If only Shoiab was around. Sighhhh.

What target can Pakistan chase here? I think around 200-230. So they'll have to bundle out the next 5 wickets for 50-70 runs.

Not watching it but the wicket sounds easy to bat on.
