What's new

Pakistan win the 2nd Test against Bangladesh by an innings and 8 runs - Win series by a 0-2 margin

Hope Babar realizes and has learnt the importance of bowling non regular part timers for breaking partnerships

This is one of the most impressive wins by Pakistan in recent years considering the situation.

This has to be the most embarrassing defeat in the history of test cricket. To be bowled out twice in about 1 & half-day is just so pathetic. Bangladesh doesn't deserve to play in WTC, maybe WTC is better with 8 teams.

Bangladesh can keep playing test cricket outside the WTC but not in WTC.

Wow omg I’m literally smashing my pillows but athar Ali khan was all In readyness to throw a grand party until Babar Azam got mehdy out I guess celebrations will have to wait for Bangladesh until Papua New Guinea come around a total minnow associate is Bangladesh still

Sed we couldn't hear Athar shouting into the mic "EBAA-DOT HUSSAINN... REMEMBER THE NAME!!!" after Bangladesh hold out for a draw:asif

Way over the top criticism.

Remember pakistani getting bowled out for 59 and 53 in nowhere other than UAE?

If BD surpass paks total they should be decalred winners

the amount of crazy comments like this is just incredulous...we managed a win by only having 67 overs bowled the first 3 days and not being to bowl our fast bowlers when we wanted to (though having bad light enforcing the spinners to bowl first up turned out to be a blessing in disguise)

Mubarak to all Pak fans. That declaration now just proves Babar knew what he was doing.

I was not expecting Bangladesh to gift this match but they just did and along with it wrapped it with a bow.

Absolutely right.
I as an Bangladeshi, was always comprehending the reality that how bad our team is and how good Pakistan was playing all the time, unlike few posters over here.

Babar really amazed me with his captaincy, absolutely cool and calm. His bold decision of timely declaration, bowling changes in foreign conditions and finally giving important breakthrough when it was slipping away. Amazing captaincy by the skipper.

Listen - I know it was 'only Bangladesh'. I know Bangladesh are virtually associate level in Tests. BUT - they are reasonably competitive in Mirpur. And considering the state of the game going into day 4, it has to be classed as a REMARKABLE win which I suggest not many teams other then Pakistan could have achieved. Bowling a team out out twice in 5 sessions on their home turf and winning the match in 2.5 days cricket out of 5 - I bet you this has happened VERY FEW times in the whole history of test cricket.

First of all, UAE wasn't Pakistan's home at that time like it came afterward & the Australian side was an ATG side probably the best ever.

This was in Bangladesh home vs quite an average test side.

Well done, Pakistan.

This should've been a draw but BD simply were not good enough.

Well deserved slap to some on this match thread. Honestly why do you even watch cricket if it pains you that much ?

Congratulations to Pakistan for defying time and weather. Bangladesh Board should resign if they had any shame.

Babar Azam | Pakistan skipper: I felt that I needed to bowl at that stage and really happy I got that wicket (Mehidy). Our batsmen and especially openers gave us good start and our mindset was just to dominate despite the bad weather and Sajid's spell gave us momentum and confidence to win this game. Credit to groundstaff, they have done a really great job with all the rain around in the last few days. This series win gives us a lot of confidence and some crucial WTC points.

Abid Ali, Player of the Series: It was spinning a lot in the last game and this one as well. Our target was to play positive cricket and to go for the win. Babar backs everyone in the team and that's how we get that positive body language. I got a lot of confidence from my last domestic season and good to continue that form.

Sajid Khan, Player of the Match: Captain and vice captain had trust on me and glad to perform well for my team. The talk was always to go for the win and to attack. It's a complete team effort and everyone deserves the credit for this win.

Mominul Haque | Bangladesh skipper: In the second innings we had an opportunity to play better than the first and though some of our senior players played well we couldn't hang on in the end. If we lose early wickets it's difficult to make a comeback always in Test cricket. Taijul is bowling really bowling and hope he can continue with that.

The stage was set for Sajid Khan as he returned sensational bowling figures of 8/42 and 4/86, guiding Pakistan to an unforgettable win in the Dhaka Test.

The victory keeps Pakistan on the second spot in the ICC World Test Championship standings, taking their win percentage to 75%, while Bangladesh are languishing at the bottom with two in two losses and zero points.

No final session on Day 1, only 6.2 overs of action on the second day, not a ball being bowled on the third day, a delayed start on day four and still Pakistan managed to claim an emphatic win.

Sajid Khan spun his magical web to dismantle the Bangladesh line-up with his brilliant performance. He wrapped up the hosts' second innings for 205 as Pakistan sealed a victory by an innings and eight runs, and the series 2-0.

With only four wickets in hand in the final session, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan were leading Bangladesh's charge to keep their hopes of a draw alive. However, Pakistan were determined for a win. Their skipper Babar Azam claimed his first wicket in international cricket, dismissing Mehidy lbw for a 70-ball 14, and bringing an end to a crucial 51-run stand.

One brought two more for Pakistan as the hosts lost Shakib and Khaled Ahmed in quick succession. Sajid cleaned up Shakib for a well-made 63, and in his next over he snared Khaled's wicket. He later also claimed the final wicket of Taijul Islam.

Earlier, Bangladesh started the day on 76/7 in the first innings with Taijul Islam, who was yet to get off the mark, and Shakib Al Hasan on 23. Sajid Khan had bothered the hosts the previous day, bagging six wickets and he continued from where he had left off.

In his first over of the day, he took his wickets tally of the innings to seven with Taijul failing to defend a slider. Shaheen Afridi joined the celebrations in the next over, knocking over Khaled Ahmed for a duck.

Soon, Sajid wrapped up Bangladesh's first innings on 87 with the dismissal of Shakib (33). He finished with figures of 15-4-42-8 – Pakistan's fourth-best bowling figures in a Test innings.

With the visitors already 213 runs ahead, and with two full sessions remaining, they enforced a follow-on in the hope of churning out a result in their favour.

Pakistan got off to a dream start in the second outing. In the third over, Bangladesh lost opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy with Hasan Ali cleaning him up for 6. That sparked a top-order collapse as Bangladesh lost two wickets in the next two overs – Shadman Islam (2) was trapped in front by Shaheen and Hasan struck in a similar fashion with Mominul Haque (7) out lbw.

A couple of overs later, the hosts faced another blow when Shaheen had Najmul Hossain Shanto caught for 6, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 25/4.

The onus was on the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das. Together the duo combined for a much-needed stand of 47* in the morning session to take their side to Lunch at 72/4.

Post Lunch, Das resumed the proceedings in style with a boundary on the first ball of the afternoon session off Sajid. Both the batters looked settled at the crease, and on a mission to carry their side to a draw.

However, a few overs later, Sajid struck again. Das, in an attempt to pull a short ball, played straight into the hands of the square leg fielder, Fawad Alam, who fumbled first but caught it safely the second time. The Bangladesh batter looked dejected, making a long walk back to the dugout after missing out on a fifty by five runs.

Rahim was then joined by the reliable Shakib. While Rahim stayed firm at the crease from one end, Shakib occasionally accelerated the scoreboard with boundaries. He even struck three fours in a row off Hasan.

The duo's partnership was approaching the 50-run mark, but Bangladesh lost Rahim on the stroke of Tea. Shakib hit the ball towards short mid-wicket and called for a single that had run Rahim out for 48.

My request to Pakistan fans is to stay humble and don’t making disparaging comments against Bangladesh. It is a good win for Pakistan so celebrate by all means but don’t go over the top.BD board made too many changes, they left out experienced players, the pitches were poor etc etc.Pakistan is stronger than BD so it was expected that it will win.The only person who thinks BD is better than Pakistan is Athar Ali Khan.

IF this IF that..at the end of the day..anda on your face

No. Babar at the end frustrated with Nauman and brought himself and got the wicket. Should be last match for Nauman. But he will be selected another 2-3 series.

The thing is knowing Pak fans and judging from the slit wristers comments - Pak won't be given the credit they deserve and it will be a case of 'it's Bangladesh'. A shame. This should go down as one of the great wins in test history because of the circumstances. Forget the opposition for a moment. You are playing a team who can compete reasonably in their own conditions. You have lost 2.5 days to rain. You are not allowed to use your pacers - one of whom is PROBABLY the best bowler in world cricket currently and POTENTIALLY an ATG with luck. You have 6 sessions left and you have 188 on the board in your first innings and still have to bowl the opposition out twice. Please check the records to see how often this has been achieved. And then give credit where it is due. Bangladesh are appalling. But Pak were playing the situation and the circumstances. Not just Bangladesh.

What a fantastic Test victory, outstanding effort from everyone!

Of course the plaudits will go to Sajid and rightly so for a memorable performance, but Babar deserves a lot of credit. From the declaration to the follow-on to the bowling changes, including bringing himself on to break the crucial partnership, his captaincy was faultless this match.

Amazing match considering the time lost to rain and bad light. Bangladesh test team has regressed in last 2 years. Mominul doesn't look like he is leading the team well. Onus on Tamim to inject some life in this team. Domingo has been an utter failure as coach expectedly. Don't know why guys like Mosaddek aren't picked for tests when he's averaging 55+ in FC.
Producing pace bowlers especially for tests has been ever present in Ban. The last promising fast bowler in Bangladesh I remember is Mohammad Shahid who played against us in 2015 series.

Only 67 overs were possible in the first 3 days.

So this match had draw written all over it but somehow Pakistan still managed to win.

Bangladesh are way out of their depth in this format but a great win none the less considering the circumstances.

What a win...

In essentially 2 days and a bit of a morning session :)

Good work team.

We’ve done tremendously well to win this Test given the horrible weather.

Pitch had become flat and slow from the end of Mornings play to the end of the day today, the bowlers and fielding side did well to get the last 6 wickets and win the series emphatically.

Perfect revenge by Pakistan for the 2015 ODI whitewash and the T-20 loss.

Talk now…..
You won’t find a single positive post from this poster, best to ignore such ‘fans’.

Amazing win, while people are laying into Bangladesh for messing this up, I would rather commend the excellent bowling performance from Pakistan for this victory.

Sajid Khan was immense every step of the way, hopefully this spurs him to improve and deliver even better results against better sides.

What a victory finishing the game within 2 days.Babar had the perfect test in terms of captaincy.

What a wonderful win and a great job by Babar in forcing a result.

Looks like the Test side is starting to head in the right direction and the bowling attacks seems so much dangerous since Hasan Ali comeback. They do need another good seamer to rely upon in SENA conditions so that should be the next focus and hopefully Naseem makes a comeback as that guy.

Excellent performance by the team. You can only beat the team in front of you. In their conditions they are competitive and this showed in the first match. You can blow a whole match in just one session in test cricket but Pakistan showed professionalism and aggression. Here's hoping they can keep this going.

Also a slap on the face of the wrist slitters and the Indian troll pretending to be a Pakistani..

I just didn't think Pakistan would have enough time to win...done and dusted, 20 wickets and 300 runs in what was it, 2 days? Great stuff. Add in INdia v NZ 1 and this has been a great return for test cricket.

If only the test at the gabba has some edge to it.

Spirited win that.

As soon as they picked up a couple of early wickets in the day, the Pakistan side could smell blood.

Excellent captaincy and bowling effort from Sajid, Shaheen and Hassan.

As for Bangladesh, probably one of their worst losses in recent times.

Very impressive victory by Pakistan..
Beating any side within 1.5 days is a great achievement..
Cricket needs jolly guys like Sajid Khan, his action, looks and celebrations were cool to watch 👌👌
