Babar Azam speaking during the post-match chats with Salman Ali Agha:
“The plan was simple — I had discussed it with Sahibzada Farhan. We aimed to take it till around 40–45 runs, because you know, due to the dew factor, the ball starts coming on nicely and the field opens up. That gives you options to find runs, even against fast bowlers. In the middle, there was a patch where we struggled a bit against spin because the ball was gripping. So, when Salman Ali Agha came in, our plan was to see it off. If it came into our range, we’d take the chance. After that, it was all about backing my shots, backing myself — and Alhamdulillah, today it worked.”
“Fans, team, all of us — were waiting for an innings like this. I personally was waiting for it too. The key was backing yourself, keeping your training hard. Expectations were high — from the team, from the people — and I wasn’t quite delivering. But I kept working hard, kept backing myself, spent time at the crease. My belief was that if I spent time out there, InshaAllah, things would improve.”
“I stayed positive throughout. There are moments when everything seems to be going well, but sometimes things just don’t fall into place. But Alhamdulillah, Allah was kind today.”
Salman Ali Agha Said:
“I also want to tell people — we’re always around him, whether it’s Tests, ODIs, or T20s — and his work ethic stands out. When you’re not performing, you feel a bit down, like “it’s not happening,” despite trying again and again. But his work ethic is exceptional. What stands out to me is how he always shows up for practice, does his drills, fields, everything. That’s what makes a good player — and someone like him, a great player. These are the traits that build greatness. And in big games, you need big players — and none other than Babar Azam delivers in big moments. So I’m very happy. You all must be happy too. We’re all happy. Babar, well done, very well done.”
