[PICTURES] Motera - World's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India

The official count is 110k. But the whisper number is 132k because of all the romance this gorgeous stadium evokes. Lovers will sit on each other's laps. Don't forget this is a perfect place for families with kids sitting on parents laps. What about those corporate box rooms where 200 people can easily fit into a 20 capacity room. Gotto count all of these numbers in hush tones.

Official count isc132000. Not whisper.

The video of the stadium mentioned 110k. Anyway it's no big deal. It's absurd of them to mention 110 in the video isn't it. When there are discrepancies between different official accounts, people will start using their imaginations.Nothing snide about it.

Wow this 110,000 seater stadium looks magnificent. BCCI would be making a fortune just from gate receipts if there is a final here.

However, if they wanted to go a record, should had went above 150 to beat the official record for the worlds largest stadium which belongs to North Korea. Only 40k seats were needed.

36% more seating capacity is quite a bit.

What's the point? How many times are you going to get 150k for one match? That works in North Korea because they force the people to attend.

than whats the point of having a 110K stadium?

:)) you guys will defend anything. If it was 150K plus you would had ben praising it as the worlds largest.

:))) :)))

To be the largest cricket stadium in the world and position Gujarat to host the biggest matches in India over Mumbai and Kolkata. That's all this is.

Who's "you guys"? When did I defend this?

The ongoing Indian Premier League season final is set to create a historic record, with a total attendance of 1,25,000 estimated to be the highest ever for an IPL match.

The Narendra Modi Venue in Motera has a capacity of 132000 people, making it the world’s largest cricket stadium, surpassing the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

After the BCCI confirmed 100 percent audience attendance for the playoffs, tickets for the RR versus RCB IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 sold out swiftly.

In terms of providing adequate security, 6000 policemen have been dispatched in Ahmedabad. In the stadium this evening, about 17 DCPs, 4 DIGs, 28 ACPs, 51 Police inspectors, 268 Sub inspectors, about 5,000 constables, and 1,000 home guards would be there.

Seeing such a sea of humanity gathered under one roof to watch a cricket match is a sight to behold as a cricket fan.

Can't imagine what this place will sound like when India are playing a 2023 WC match here.

Hopefully a full house in 2023.

Must admit - truly electric atmosphere. Cannot imagine how it would be if the home team India plays a World Cup final here - it would be madness.

That stadium looks very impressive and there must be an amazing atmosphere.

The Titan's very first match on their home ground was them winning the IPL. How much better can it get for the fans? I am sure the 100k people there were ecstatic.

Doesn't look too full to me!

Fq162eAX0AArpe7

even 20,000 in that ground would look empty.

whilst its a boring looking stadium, I'm guessing the atmosphere would be mental when packed. hopefully pak and ind play the 23 wc final here.

They didn't get the best stadium award. Eden Gardens, Kolkatta and Wankhede, Mumbai bagged those awards.

A stadium of 176,000 capacity is impressive but it isn't a particularly aesthetically pleasing stadium. Looks to lack character and is a bit insipid from the TV.

Much prefer Eden Gardens.

Ahmedabad cricket stadium - Appreciation thread

This is a truly gigantic and a great looking stadium. The visuals I saw today were absolutely stunning and I am genuinely proud that our country has built such a huge and iconic cricket stadium.

Tonight’s match was a fitting game the stadium deserves so kudos to all involved.

@Markhor @Saj @MenInG @Rana @Major @Mamoon

To get a neutral perspective, how do you guys see this stadium and Bharat’s chances there in big matches.

You think the 1.3 lac crowd does indeed play in our favour big time.

By the way we have lost a semi final at Eden Gardens in 1996, the pitch broke apart unfortunately so we could not make much of the home crowd advantage back then.

Such a big stadium with india in final and yet it couldnt sold out fully.

The nunbers are out

Mcg in 2015 final had more fans in the stadium...

What's the point of being the largest cricket stadium when the official attendance couldn''t reach 100k in this world cup final where it could hold a capacity of more than 130k.
.

Do Indian fans genuinely like this stadium beyond its size?

It's definitely loud and daunting but doesn't appear to have character.

I feel Eden Gardens, Wankhede, and Chinnaswamy are better. Just seems like their vibe is more authentic and vibrant than the Narendra Modi stadium.

Its not a patch on our traditional stadias like Chinnaswamy, Chepauk, Eden Gardens, Wankhede.

Everything here looks so plastic, so forced. Everyone knows its being built to satisfy the himalayan ego of 1 person.

It is not the best venue in India. That's all I can say. There's something un-classy about this venue.

Surprised this venue got to host the final game. Should've been held in Mumbai.

Why it should be Mumbai? What's special there? A small 32K capacity stadium.

India has hosted 3 WC finals. All at different venues.

Its a newly reconstructed stadium. But the place Motera has much older history.

Kapil Devs 9/83
Gavaskar's 10000th run

All came here.

It will take sometime for fans to get used to the venue.

When i first went to Eden Gardens after its renovation the stadium felt hollow. Seating had dropped to 68k from 110k.

Slowly it feel the same again.

Official attendance for the WC 2023 final was 92,453.
Where were the other 28,000 ??
There were more for the IPL final

The stadium does not look pretty, the crowd is probably the worse in India.

BCA Eyes Major Revamp Of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium With World-Class Facilities By 2027

The Bihar government has transferred the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium here to the state cricket association, clearing the decks for it to become a multi-sport complex and an international venue with a 40,000-seat capacity at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore.

The renovated stadium will have 76 corporate boxes and accommodation for 250 VIPs and the sports complex will feature a badminton court, volleyball court, swimming pool, five-star hotel, fully-equipped players’ hostel, restaurants, a clubhouse, and other modern amenities, stated a release.

The construction is slated to begin early next year, with a completion target of 2027.

“The Bihar Government has fulfilled its responsibility. Now, it is up to the BCA (Bihar Cricket Association) to begin its work. The BCA will expedite the construction and deliver a world-class stadium to the people of Bihar within three years, where they can enjoy international matches," BCA president Rakesh Kumar Tiwari stated in a press release after the signing of documents on Tuesday.

As part of the agreement, the state government has waived the land registry fee of approximately Rs 37 crore.

The registry documents were signed by Mahendra Kumar, director of the sports department, on behalf of the state government, and BCA president Tiwari.

The event was also attended by sports department deputy director Sanjay Kumar, Patna district sports officer Om Prakash, BCA secretary Jiaul Afrin, and GM administration Neeraj Rathore, among others.

The development follows a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the state government and the BCA on November 6.

As per records, the stadium, which has a current capacity of 25,000, last hosted an international match on December 22, 1997 — an India versus South Africa Women’s World Cup clash.

Previously, it also hosted the Kenya-Zimbabwe match of the 1996 World Cup on February 27 and another ODI between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in the CAB Jubilee Tournament for the Hero Cup on November 15, 1993.

The stadium has hosted a Women’s Test too, between India and West Indies from November 17-19 in 1976, and a Youth Test between India and Australia from March 9-12, 1985.

The venue is named after one of BCA’s founding members Moin-ul-Haq, who was also the first President of the All India Football Federation.
