[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Shan Masood as Pakistan Test captain performance watch

His captaincy was awful today, particularly in the first session. He put the match on auto-pilot and let South Africa just cruise. When you have such few runs on the board you have to be more proactive with your bowling changes. Can't be sitting around expecting things to happen. Also felt like he bowled Naseem and Khurram for too long after they picked up wickets, to the point that they became ineffective and began conceding boundaries.

Tbf Misbah had a more mature team.

Ik people don't like ajmal, hafeez and call then chuckers etc etc but they all had game awareness.

The likes of yasir Shah, Umar gul, ajmal, Hafeez wouldn't just shout like maniacs and want to go upstairs 24/7.

It made things easier for Misbah since Misbah could trust his bowlers. Not taking any credit away from Misbah as he was decent at drs reviews, however he didn't have to deal with shouting maniacs all the time.

Naseem is by far one of the most immature bowlers I've ever seen and Shan is even worse for just spamming drs anytime naseem Shah cries about it

Since Rizwan is also not performing in Test cricket so making him captain is out of question , but that's for sure Shan is on borrowed time.

So moving forward before next WTC cycle, 2x WI Tests are ideal opportunity for change of captain. Who should be in reckoning

I think Saud is the right age and after seeing him.play today- he is head and shoulders above the other batsman in the team. I got no idea if he has any tactical nous but I don't think anyone of the decision makers will know that either

Shan is not a good captain.I don’t know who can take his place though.Rizwan was excellent in the short formats but I am not sure he will be good captain for tests.
 
Shan has a luxury of bowlers and batters doing job for him otherwise, he himself is a nothing player and captain.
 
AJ is garbage. Everyone knows this, but they still gave him an over was just soo stupid
 
naseem is the worst bowler against left handers in the squad yet this 29 averaging clown decides to go for him. Then to bowl two no balls in that situation. Unbelievable. Azhar mehmood is another absolute freeloader.
Give the captaincy to Rizwan straight away for the next game.
 
Shan is not only a poor captain he is not a good batsman either.A solid opener is needed to see the new ball.Shan doesn’t have the technique to play the new ball esp in SENA.
 
To be honest Shan's biggest crime is his batting. You can somewhat tolerate average captaincy if you're at least performing in your strong suit.

However this guy's played Test cricket since 2013 and still looks a tailender.
 
He should be sacked immediately.

There are so many question marks over his captaincy. He cannot bat, cannot bowl , cannot set fields, chooses the wrong bowlers for the occasion…… endless gaffes
 
I mean i can’t think of a poorer captain than him ever since the 90s. And that has guys like Yousuf, Azhar ali, waqar as captains in the list, absolute douchebag with captaincy

This was NOT average. Naseem and Jamal vs a leftie is a crime.
 
If Shan has any self respect he should resign but he won't because he knows if he isn't captain, he won't make the team.
 
A captain should be able to separate their batting /bowling from their captaincy, but its clear he's under immense pressure as a batsman. His captaincy has been poor throughout the last year. Needs to go, Rizwan is 1000x better.
 
I am very surprised the way he utilised his bowlers. He mainly relied on 2-3 bowlers and out of which Naseem is good for nothing. Naseem is Haris Rauf version of test cricket, he leaks lot of runs with some occasional wickets. Shan's batting is major concern, I don't think he will continue after another 1-2 series
 
Shan is up their with moin Khan, moyo, rameez raja, azhar Ali as Pakistans most clueless captains ever

I rather we complete the humiliation with Shana Paratha. Couldnt care less who wins the next test match. Play the same XI and lets gets white washed.
 
The game was lost after Abbas’ bowling performance in the first innings.

Pakistan were never defending this total.

This loss is on a) whoever was responsible for selecting Abbas over Mir Hamza and b) Babar for giving his wicket away after reaching 50.

This wtc cycle is gone already

What an absolute load of rubbish.

As poor as Pakistan are, SA are not much better. Pakistan had 2 chances to kill this game off and both occasions Shans dumb captaincy let SA off the hook
 
A good captain cannot raise the ceiling of his players but he can raise the floor.

Shan had some good moments in his captaincy during the Australian tour, however his captaincy has been nigh on diabolical since then. Pakistan won 2 Tests under his captaincy simply because of the pitch and the two spinners. There was literally no captaincy required. Shan's credentials have been ruthlessly exposed here in SA where the last two wickets scored 150 runs across 2 innings.

Will this series whitewash be the end of Shan? Most likely if PCB has any sense.

He let BD off the hook at 26-6 a few months so this is not surprising.

Averaging 29 as a Test batsman is the biggest joke, especially with our flat home pitches. Even if he was a brilliant tactician, it wouldn't be justifiable to keep him as captain.

How long can this go on for ? WI at home is an ideal introduction for a new skipper.

Clueless captaincy when SA were 8 down in both inns is to blame here and that's on Shan.

Any other test side would have won this test having SA 99/8

Captain is easy scapegoat in Pakistan.
They are saying Saim Ayub for crying out loud would have been a major gamble. Khurram Shahzad was average today too.

Point is, test matches are hard gigs to win in SA. There were just not enough runs on the board.

Shan Masood the opener is the bigger problem.

Yes our team might be poor but this South African side is the weakest we have every played... period

Keeping the batting but aside, Shan just messed it up big time in both innings... he finally brought on a spinner in the first innings who took a wicket within a couple of overs... some of us we screaming for this to happen long before he finally did it...

In second innings, you don't go a bring Amer Jamal when Khurram has been bowling well and if he had any clue he would have brought on a spinner....

These were basic elementary mistakes that cost us the match
 
He needs removing because he is not a performer with the bat imam ul haq and Abdullah shafique are better batsmen that can replace him or some youngster like that awais guy can be tried.

Fair play to abbas he came back but I still belive hamza needs to bought in maybe jamal needs to be replaced
 
The game was probably gone by then, but it was a questionable decision to give Jamal the ball instead of Khurram.

Saud Shakeel led Sind team to title in QEA. He’s the VC so he should step up right.

100% spot on

Whilst the pitch wasn't there for spinners both agha and saim showed in ODI series they could take wickets.

In both inns the spinners should have been tried against the tail for a couple of overs to try something different.

The batting from Pakistan was pathetic, the fact I predicted most dismissals 5 mins before they happened, shows how dumb and predicted our bastmen are.

These are worst Pakistan and SA test sides I've ever seen.
 
What could Shan have done better to guarantee a win ? Thankfully, I slept through another greek tragedy in Pakistan cricket.

some of us even identified Rabada’s off side ploy at lunch break. needed to change field and allow singles rather boundaries. slow up the game, a good ball was inevitable on this pitch

Played a spinner when they were 8 down...

Replaced Naseem with Khurram

Urged his bowlers to continue hitting the same line and length...

Not brining on an offie against the left handers was criminal, especially when South Africans are poor against spin and the wicket was up and down

I agreed but no one knows if he has the nous to be captain of a national team. He is the best option because there isn't any alternatives. His batting is good but he and Agha need to move up the order

Bro South Africa will be saying we are the weakest Pakistan side they have ever played.

They are weak against their previous teams like in the Smith era but are they weaker than us?

8 of their players would probably walk into our side.

I just find it hard to pin this on Shan. He is captain of the titanic but was handed the reigns after we had hit the ice berg.

Had the ball stopped seaming at that point ? Neither sides used a spinner, at which point do you think he should have used a spinner, how many more runs would they have required ? And looking at the scorecard it seems like Abbas had little support, I guess they could have used a spinner at the other end but that may have been a gamble as well.

Ultimately the batting was catastrophic and the collapse incited by :rizwan proved pretty fatal to.

He's been captain for 14 months now and yes we are poor but come on, it's common sense stuff here...
seaming wicket, up and down bounce, lefties at the wicket, bring on your off spinner... change the pace and trajectory and get the tailinders in two minds...

The fact that this applies to both innings is what makes it inexplicable...

With respect to our side, with a couple of tweaks we could be a much better test side and unfortunately this also means replacing Shan the batsman...
