Play abandoned on Day 3 of the 2nd Test between England and Pakistan without a ball being bowled

Another inspection will take place at 4:15pm, it is currently a very wet outfield.

A very wet outfield with literally one person working to dry it up, well done groundsmen :salute

Even the rain gods won't let Pakistan lose the series in England. Can't think of another side that has been as lucky as Pakistan has been in England. You could literally play 11 paindoos against England in England and still England won't be able to beat them. Kudos!

I think it was set up to be a good match like the first one but unfortunately rain is making the result highly unlikely.

Pak had a decent score to play with under the conditions, many teams could have been wrapped up inside 200 here. Even Pak was heading towards that but Rizwan played a gutsy knock.

He is just a good player for this PAK team. I believe you are 19-20 now, so it’s probably not fair to ask you, but you can ask this to your dad - whom he’ll pick - Rashid Latif, Moin Khan, Kamran of 2005-6 or Rizwan.... you’ll get your reality check.

Yeah, I have actually asked that before. He does rate Rizwan as a good player for this Pakistani team, and for world cricket in general, but that the standards of test cricket is very low now.

He says says that Pakistan team has completely awful batting, where as in the past the batting was at least medium. And he also says Shaheen and Naseem are not really too class talents. To be honest, his assessment of the team and cricket is fairly similiar to yours.

I agree but the way he criticises Pakistan its like he is a big 3 team fan when I reality his own team is hardly better then Afghanistan who started much later then BD

It doesn't matter what team he supports. Anyone is free to make comments about Pakistan cricket, or any team for that matter, as long as their knowledge is sufficient.

230 plus batting first is a pretty decent effort in these conditions.
I'd like to see England bat on this before calling Pakistan lucky. As it is it's England that got lucky last week.

No other sport can expect fans watching nothing on their TV for almost 2 or so days with rain, wet outfield, bad lights and umpires roaming around in the ground with soapers working behind them.

ICC needs to be pro active in the overall evolution of the game.

captains should just declare their second innings and make it 1 innings shoot out. 223 + whatever extra we get may be close contest. at least we'll have a game/result.

Just abandon the match and put us all out of our misery.

Don't think Root is that bold/stupid to chase 220+ in these conditions.

i think its really around par score, its not too high or too low, plus it will be their first innings (not second / 5th day chase), and they have deeper batting now with curran, also woakes/butler in form. i dont think you can get a more closer situation to something around par that both captains could agree to based on conditions and all this rain forecast (even next 2 days).

If both captains agree to abandon their second innings.
We could have one hell of a game.

Can someone explain to me why is that ICC consider pink ball change over if the match is affected by bad light. When will game evolve and become modern game for the fans. It can easily switched to day and night test match. Really poor from ICC no wonder cricket in general is limited and has not spread in other countries.

It's going to shower all day tomorrow and quite a bit on day 5 as well.

It'll be pretty difficult for batsmen with all the interruptions and then there's this called pressure of a run chase. Root will be crucified if England if things go south.

Its a sport. The fans watching deserve some entertainment in times like these tbh.

Said it a couple of hours ago the match is over

The next week or so is torrential rain so the next test is also going to get washed out.

The next match starts on the 21st (Friday). According to the forecasts it looks like it will have cleared up by then (just) but forget the rest of this match as tomorrow and the next day are grim weather wise.

Not really the next week is to be torrential rains throughout so might get same situation about 60-80 overs throughout the 5 days.

As I said earlier they should have played the first 2 tests in Manchester and the last one here in Southampton. The weather there has been nice.

No play any time soon

The umpires have just done their 16:15 BST inspection and the outfield is still too wet and the light has deteriorated so we won't be seeing play any time soon.

The light has deteriorated so much that it is worse than yesterday when we went off so our chances of seeing any play today are very slim.

These inspections are just useless by these umpires now with another one in 30 mins.

The light is getting worse with every passing minute, ground isn't being dried all but just one person.

Why not have covers for the entire ground which might just help out with less water seeping through the ground.

These things need to be invested in world over with covers that cover the entire ground when the weather is like this.

The test is done anyway. Why waste our time? Just call the match off.

Because of the ICC methods we won't have a game next week as well.

What a farce this all is - so much time wasted by umpires when Pakistan T20 players were playing without floodlights with no issues of not being able to see.

Umpires decided to take these players off while they played with floodlights on but yet said it isn't safe.

It is about time that test cricket is given some time to overhaul some changes.

Rizwan is a better batsman in first class cricket then all 3. You can simply check the stats. Of course, he has to prove it in test cricket. But he is off to a decent start.

I know he averages 42, but you have to consider relativity of PAK domestic stats. 20-25 years years back I myself have hired few no name PAK club cricketers for leagues - the quality of those club cricketers compared to the FC cricketers of current PAK cricket ..... mind blowing.

We (your dad😜) probably are from same generation ..... the only comparison I can find is Hungry soccer & PAK cricket. WIN cricket is suffering from other issues but these are the two countries where most popular game has gone down to this level within few decades.

The match is done and dusted. Today, we had less rain yet we had no gameplay. In the next two days, there is forecast of rain so it won't be a surprise that a single delivery is bowled from now till the end.

You know things are bad when even Sky commentators were irritated with the umpires lethargic approach.

I never actually knew Hungary soccer was once good, that's interesting. I always thought of then as some random weak team in Europe.

Soccer these days is just difficult for me. Barcelona has turned into complete garbage, after they choked vs Liverpool I just stopped following them haha. It'll take years before they can compete again.

Hopefully Canada's soccer team improves and gives us something to cheer for.

Even the final test is in doubt as forecast isn't quite great for the next week or so.

At least this ensures that Naseem will definitely play all 3 tests. Very positive for his and Shaheen's development to get some match practice in these conditions.

If we lose this from here. We should get downgraded to 2 test matches like we have in Australia

Good point. Hope they can have a bowl in the next couple of days

Pakistan had already make a comeback of sorts to make it somewhat even. England aren’t far ahead especially having to bar in these conditions so don’t know where the luck part is coming.

MMHS has been predicting the downfall of Pakistan cricket and saying it will be associate level team for about 7-8 years now.

In that period we’ve won a champions trophy, become #1 test team in the world, drew two away test series’ on england while no other asian team has gotten close , beaten every team apart from SA in a test series as well.

He is easily the most knowledgeable poster on this forum but his bias against PAK veers through.
