Politics - Pakistani 2018 General Election and post-election discussion

Which will be the top party after the upcoming general elections?

 • Total voters

You can only fight extremism and religious intolerance through education. There is no magic wand that all of a sudden you will have equal rights for all minorities and Pakistanis becoming accepting of other religions.

Invest in education today and maybe in 20 years you will have a more tolerant society.

You can only educate people by voting for those who have enough spine to say the truth.

Loralai- why dont you start a new thread on Jibran Nisar and your other fav like Billo. This is about the election next week and you are talking about people who will have no impact.

Not represented. These people are fighting from their own party's platform and PTI has zero chance in their constituencies hence PTI decided to not contest from there.

They are representing PTI since all the PTI supporters have been told to give their vote to them. Watch this video of Wajahat:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqDheef2x_w

The first few minutes make it obvious these opportunistic are using PTI and PTI's narrative for their own self interest and power. All he is talking about is Panama and NS going to jail which has nothing to do with accomplishments of his party or brothers. He is telling people to vote for "balla". PTI has provided these known fraudulent a new platform to gain power.

PTI should have nominated their own candidate just like the last time and even if they had ended up losing they would have the local people's respect and some credibility. I feel disgusted just thinking about this. How can you call people "bewakoof" for electing corrupt people when you then give them no other options than choosing corrupt people.

Nobody on this platform is talking about rainbows and unicorns.

Let them have their moment in the sun.... these Jibran Nasir types will have zero impact in the elections. You remember how that singer Jawad Ahmed went all guns blazing against IK and was running for elections against IK, he was hot topic on this thread, but where is he now? So I say let them discuss their saviour Jibby to death because this is the only time in the next five years when he will have any relevance.

That is exactly why I no longer support PTI. The sad part is that I used to believe in their message.

That’s the beauty of being an activist and the politician at the same time. The social issues would still be there even after your messiah is elected as our PM.

Right guys:

3 or 4 days to go now.

Sunday's Karachi Jalsa could be huge for PTI.

The rest of Pakistan has more or less made up their mind. Now it's all about Wednesday.

That’s the beauty of being an activist and the politician at the same time. The social issues would still be there even after your messiah is elected as our PM.

And if Jibran Nasir is elected everything will magically be fixed?

That’s the beauty of being an activist and the politician at the same time. The social issues would still be there even after your messiah is elected as our PM.

Your one man band isn't going to win a seat.

There you have it.

Now please leave it.

This thread is now building up to the final few days of PMLN v PTI.

Great but they are talking about possible permutations as we approach next week. If people want to talk about their favourites then open threads on them.

Here’s a permutation. Your messiah was voted by the idealists in the 2013 elections. That idealist is now disappointed by looking at your candidates. He will not vote for your messiah. Half of the other voters may vote for PTI but that will never be enough. Your messiah stand no chance of winning from Sindh and Balochistan. He will not even have simple majority to form a provincial government in Punjab or KPK, because always remember, no party has been successfully re-elected in KPK and the voter in Punjab is divided and is leaning slightly towards PML-N. So good luck winning the elections because from where I’m standing, you guys have no chance in hell to be in charge of federal government.

PakWarrior and Syed1 neither of your lists include tackling religious extremism, which is the most serious threat we are facing.
Syed1 is in a very fortunate position as he could actually vote for the Jibran Nasir! Jibran is really the best candidate we have in NA 247.

Also, we shouldn't dismiss talk of tackling extremism as rona dhona. It is not easy to raise these issues. We have more seasoned political parties getting involved with extremists. So you should commend Jibran for taking a stand.

More we isolate them, religious extremists will vibrate more. Stream them into the process. It will take few years but that's how it should be dealt with. Lure them and bounty will take care of them. Aggression against them won't work, it hasn't so far.

Mian . Who is contesting on PTIs ticket from NA 65 Chakwal ? Is it Mansoor Hayat Tamman ?

PTI did seat adjustment with PMLQ in Chakwal so NA64 is PTI but in NA65 it's Pervez Ellahi contesting on tractor.

Yea Mansoor is Ind while Faiz Tamman is the PMLN candidate and his uncle Mumtaz Tamman is supporting PMLQ from what i heard.

OK so whom should I vote for ? I mean who has the most chances of getting elected and then joining PTI in the government ? Pervez Elahi(tractor) or Mansoor Hayat Tamman(jeep) ?

I will say Pervez Ellahi. The fight is between Pervez Ellahi and Faiz Tamman TBH and Mansur isn't in the contest.

Atrocious behaviour but what can we expect from TLYR.

Lets hope all political parties are unanimous in condemning this barbarism.

Condemnable, if true! Reality check for those claiming that the security situation has improved.

You might want to read into history of Pervez Elahi and his family before deciding which one to pick.

Wth is wrong with some posters here?

Let the posters post about Jibran Nasir and there is thing called ignore button so use it. They have every right to post on Jibran whether he has a chance or not.

You might want to read into history of Pervez Elahi and his family before deciding which one to pick.

Parvaiz elahi and his family were staunch allies of Musharraf if I’m not wrong. They deserted NS when he needed them. Goes to show the vision of the Visionaries.

My options are to either vote for Elahi or not vote at all. I know Elahi has corruption cases against him but still I think its better to vote for him as compared to Sher. Honestly, I am disappointed that PTI could not find a strong candidate from this constituency.

I would not vote at all.

Pervez Elahi and his brothers are notorious fraudsters and mobsters. They are like a mini-MQM of the area.

I am disappointed that PTI favors winning over principles. How can you at one hand celebrate the imprisonment of a corrupt leader while at the same hand lending power to a family not just known for crimes but who openly celebrate it.

These chaudary's are just oppertunistic folks. For decades they have been accusing PPP for murdering their father then in 2013 they felt no shame in forming alliance with PPP and especially Zardari. They can only come to power by forming alliances with those who are on the rise. They allied with Zia, Musharraf, PPP and now PTI.

How am i supposed to take all this seriously

And that’s just one constituency.

Hopefully Imran will go after such people, once he forms government. PTI has taken action against its own party members before so it isn't far fetched.

I agree with Sirris I would not vote if these were the "options" I had.

Not voting at all means letting PMLN(greater evil) win so..

That's the thing. Between Pervez Elahi and any other candidate, Pervez Elahi will always be the bigger evil. I don't think that success of Pervez Elahi is going to decide whether PTI wins in the grand scheme or not.

As for now I want PTI to form the new government but I sure as hell wish Pervez Elahi and his gang loses on all territories.

Appalling but nothing running on news channels. Not even Dunya.

By the way, whats with the deluge of PPP ads on TV? PTI doesn't look serious on tapping the potential of mass media.

PPP got big money and they are launching Bilawal for 2023 they know they stand no chance in this elections but this is a moment to present him as a alternative solution.

Saw Dunya Election Cell show today and it looks like from NA52 to NA65 (14 seats: Islamabad, Attock, Rawalpindi, Chakwal) PTI+Sheikh Rasheed are leading on 10 seats, PMLN is leading on 2 seats, PMLQ is winning on 1 seat and Ch Nisar is also ahead on 1 seat.

Interestingly Habib Akram mentioned in Rawalpindi PTI voter is just voting for Imran Khan no matter who is the candidate many of them dont even know their candidates.

You are drawing completely wrong comparisons. There is no match between MQM of old days and Chaudhry family. If that was the case then they would have not lost their own seats from Gujrat to PPP and N league in 2008 and 2013.

If being with a dictator is such a big evil then we should not even be having these elections as more or less every party has sided with them. It is not that politicians have done herculean tasks either.

In another thread I read you trying to give another sense to Ayaz Sadiq's cheap comments and trying to make sense of his words.

There is no need to play detectives with me. I didn't know who Ayaz Sadiq was before opening that thread. The reason I even bother to engage in that thread was because its initial title was wrong which gave a totally different meaning to what was actuary said. I don't have loyalties to any party especially not PMLN whose leader has officially been declared corrupt and jailed by the court.

I have general idea of Pakistan's political landscape but am not aware of the tiny details. I am more of an outside observer.

I do have many relatives in Pakistan and I just recently asked them about what their intentions are. That's when I found out about PTI and Chaudary brothers alliance. The comparison with MOM might not be accurate but it was meant to give a general idea about who these people are for those unaware. They might not be as powerful as MQM but that doesn't make them any less of a gangster and mobsters. Especially not when compared to the norms in the region. I have relatives from the region and know what these people have been up to.

The reason why Chaudary lost their influence is a direct consequence of their thuggery. Gujrat city is their hometown and they still can't confidently win there without taking support from PPP in 2013 and now jumping on the PTI bandwagon.

I just recently found about this and looking deeper into the issue.

Watch these two videos regarding the situation of PTI in Gujrat, they are about one month old and at that time seat adjustment with PMLQ wasn't official yet and there were only rumors. Watch what PTI party worker had to say about the whole thing after working day in and day out for the party:

As it seems PTI leaders toke their time to chose a candidate and kept their workers in the dark and at the very end choose to go in alliance with the Chaudarys.

You can continue to live in your bubble where everything is perfect and any sort of critiscm is dealt with suspicion towards the criticizer instead of looking at the critic's merit.

I have heard the criticism in past that their are many rotten apples which Imran Khan has accepted into his party. And to some extent I was ok with it because I understand the situation. However the Chaudary's aren't just some rotten apples they are the very definition of corrupt elite who inherited power and have been ruling over people for decade without anything to show for.

Imran Khan wants to create a new Pakistan by getting rid of family politicians and feudal lords with too much power. Pervez Elahi and his family is a textbook example of exactly those two things. Ironically he takes them as allies.

To me it's clear PTI's leadership value winning by all costs over adhering to their own standards. It would have been far greater for their credibility to pick a candidate and stick with him. At least they wouldn't have lost any credibility and respect in the region. With these facts how am I supposed to convince my relatives of supporting PTI. They aren't going to vote for anyone and their is a bitter disgusting taste in my mouth about this whole issue.

I still hope PTI WIN, though now I am at least realistic about the change to expect.

Sirris

The videos relate to people who are direct adversaries of them, they are opponents and like a typical politicians they are not going to say nice things about them. It is the matter of their survival.

Chaudhry's are one of the innumerable political family who have enjoyed power and benefited from culture of impunity in Pakistan. We can't change the system by not voting for anyone.

As Imran has shown in KP that NAB won't be criticized if a PTI affiliate gets caught, hopefully in IK's time, if there is one, institutions will be able to nab corrupt elements across board.

You are wrong this is not about churning out corrupt elements from politics altogether but making a system which could hold powerful people accountable. If there is a system of impunity and corruption legitimized then most of us will try to benefit, little or more.

You have not particularly mentioned their target killings, rampant rigging in elections like MQM. To be honest, they are just like most of influential politicians here.

My options are to either vote for Elahi or not vote at all. I know Elahi has corruption cases against him but still I think its better to vote for him as compared to Sher. Honestly, I am disappointed that PTI could not find a strong candidate from this constituency.

Not the best options but you must vote looking at bigger picture. I think PTI would have surely lost this seat in a 3 way fight so it's more politics than any ideology and unfortunately ideology alone is not enough to win elections.

That's the thing. Between Pervez Elahi and any other candidate, Pervez Elahi will always be the bigger evil. I don't think that success of Pervez Elahi is going to decide whether PTI wins in the grand scheme or not.

Bro we are all on same page with this, only difference is approach.

Some people prefer good people to be given chance first and end goal is to change the system.

Others want to change the system as well but after coming to power which will make it easy for new people to win in future.

By the way, seat adjustment with a party does not mean alliance. PTI will win one or 2 seats in Gujrat due to this seat adjustment as well.

Yes Dr Sahib it's very disappointing news. I'm very suprised as he got lots of votes last time.

Fawad is a very good young PTI worker and him not becoming a MNA will be a big loss.

I contacted many people today about Ch Fawad constituency and the response was positive and most of them say that Fawad is safe. And i think one of his cousin from the other constituency is not in good position.

I can bet fro clear majority on kpk .I mean for pti.How much do you want to bet for.I am ready....it will be simple majority for pti and even more seats than 2013.remmebr this post till 25th july.

So who is this Jibran Nasir?

Is he a Kejriwal type?

So who is this Jibran Nasir?

Is he a Kejriwal type?

Please take your post elsewhere. Thanks.

Just a few days to go to election so we are concentrating on talking about the key battle grounds not Jibran Nasir.

From what I gather Jibran Nasir is an activist and has defended Ahmadis. That's why a few Ahmadi posters on here continue to harp on about him in this thread.

There are other threads for them to do so. Kindly let's not do that in this one with just a few days to go.

So who is this Jibran Nasir?

Is he a Kejriwal type?

He is a left-wing activist with many admirable ideals. However his ideals in Pakistan won't win him votes and I am afraid he is putting his life at risk by fighting with the TLYR types (the ones who venerate Mumtaz Qadri). He will mostly win about 1000 votes, which is a step up for the 500 he won last time.

Agreed. He’s more of a social activist than a politician.I like his ideals and the way he stood against Rao Anwar and Shahrukh Jatoi.
