It would take a private sector guy 2 years just to understand our broken system.

No doubt, some senior PAS officers are very capable guys with multiple masters, doctorates from top universities and a history of honest, effective service.
 
So you can see why the Nooras are creating fake controversy to hide the news of some fundamental changes that have started.

This is good and bad. Good in the sense that he will know the job but the downside is that, as most civil servants are and have been corrupted will they bring real change.

According to news he was one of the favorite of Shehbaz Sharif, he was Finance Secretary of Shehbaz Sharif's government.

Amir Liaquat was speaking against Imran Khan lol. I agree that Imran Khan should have gone to Mazar-e-Quaid but you can't publicly criticize your leader like that, also Amir bhai is not being given important by Imran Khan :))

This 3rd class person should have never been given a ticket.
 
I wish you guys would realize something. Civil Servants work at the pleasure of the government. Of course all the top civil servants today would have worked under PMLN, PPP, Musharraf. That does not make them tainted, that is literally their job.

Yup, so much is said in the media about civil servants who are really working to achieve the given policy agenda of the elected government. People should understand that the chief minister of the province is the de-facto Chief Executive.
 
There will be tough competition between MMA Zahid Durrani and PTI Malik Nisar NA 3 Bannu.

But, Malik Nisar seems favorite to win this seat.

ISLAMABAD: Controversies and embarrassments in other areas for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf administration aside, one big plus so far for the Imran Khan government is its selection of a great team of bureaucrats at the federal level.

In the second phase of key appointments made on Tuesday, the prime minister offered some leading positions in his administration to officers of great repute, both in terms of their integrity and competence.



Imran Khan chose Dr Muhammed Suleman Khan, a Grade 22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), for the role of civilian spymaster as the Director General of the Intelligence Bureau (DG IB).

Suleman had been promoted to Grade 22 and appointed the DG IB earlier this year by former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, following the retirement of the equally reputable Aftab Sultan. However, within a few months of his appointment, Suleman was transferred to the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) by the caretaker government.

Imran Khan has brought him back because of his reputation and experience. Suleman was the IB Joint Director for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) before his elevation to Grade 22 and appointment as DG.

During his tenure at the IB, Khan had to his credit a number of successful counter terrorism and counter intelligence operations in KP, launched by the IB in collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies.

Dr Jahanzeb Khan, another remarkable officer regarded as the pride of the erstwhile District Management Group (now renamed as the Pakistan Administrative Service), has been appointed as the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Jehanzeb long served under Shahbaz Sharif’s administration in Punjab. He started his career as an assistant commissioner in Punjab and laterserved as the deputy commissioner of Bannu and Abbotabad. Subsequently, he served as the Punjab’s Chairman of Planning and Development and the Additional Chief Secretary for Energy -- a post created by Shahbaz Sharif to tackle the previous power supply crisis. He also worked as secretary Health and secretary Livestock in the Punjab government. He also served as Pakistan's commercial counselor in Paris.

Jehanzeb has been credited with the success of China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects in Punjab in his role as Chairman Planning. He has also served as Secretary Finance in Punjab and was the moving force behind the creation of the Punjab Revenue Authority.

Although, he left his mark in Punjab, Jehanzeb actually belongs to Peshawar. He is business friendly and pro reforms, and perhaps for these reasons has been given the tough assignment of FBR Chairman. Government sources said that the FBR needs an outsider to shake it up. Imran Khan wants to double the present revenue to Rs8,000 billion within a couple of years. “Let’s see if JK (Jehanzeb Khan) can achieve this,” an official said.

Regarding the appointment of Mehr Khaliq Dad Lak, a Grade 22 officer of the PSP, as Nacta Director General, sources in the bureaucracy said that he, too, was a good choice. Lak is the senior-most PSP officer and, in an ideal world, should have been rewarded for his forthright honesty by being appointed as the Inspector General of Punjab Police. “But no politician can afford him,” said a source, who quipped that the ongoing controversy over the removal of the Pakpattan District Police Officer would have been unthinkable in his presence.

Lak has intelligence background and is a solid policeman, making him suitable to lead Nacta. The government is expected to encourage Lak to re-activate Nacta as an effective counter-terrorism agency.

Most of that was said off the record. Really poor and unprofessional from Samaa, but what else can you expect from the masala news services.

Obviously throwing a tantrum now that IK & PTI are gonna cut their supply of lifafas & also professionalise PTV to the point the other news channels will be left behind.

He is a loudmouth and admires Hitler, he shouldn't represent PTI on TV at all. Many progressive and open minded people voted for PTI.

Very unlikable, i knew he acts like an idiot at times but i thought he would act responsibly after becoming minister but he has acted worse since becoming a minister. Yes these kind of characters are required at times to counter filth like Rana, Abid Sher Ali, Hanif Abbasi etc but he should stick to doing that on 3rd grade channels.

SHANGLA: Awami National Party’s local chapter has announced its full support to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidate in the coming by-election in PK-23 Shangla-I, scheduled for September 10, where candidates of PML-N and PTI are set to face each other.

ANP district president Saeed Fareen announced the ‘electoral alliance’ with PTI here at his residence in Dandai Bisham on Saturday. PTI candidate Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, former lawmaker Abdul Munim and others were also present on the occasion.

Mr Fareeen said that after a long consultation with the local leadership they rejected the party’s decision of striking an electoral alliance with PML-N in the by-polls in PK-23. He said that on the demand of workers and local leaders they were going to announce electoral alliance with PTI.

“I can’t forget the support of PTI in the local government elections in which PTI members voted to ANP candidate without any greed and we want to see a government lawmaker from the constituency,” he said and added if PML-N candidate was elected he would go to opposition which could not benefit Shangla.

He said that ANP Shangla would not only support PTI, but would also run a campaign for it in the constituency so that the PTI candidate could win the seat.

Shaukat Yousafzai, who is also spokesman of the provincial government, thanked the ANP local leadership for the support in coming election. He said that ANP had secured about 14,000 votes in the general elections and its support would help him in winning the seat with a big margin

One thing I will note is Imran's austerity drive is being picked up by international media and watched closely, so that's one good thing at least.

Yes he won by securing 39000 votes, runner up PMLN candidate got 16000 votes. Pretty much shows by elections don't really show the real picture as in general elections PTI candidate won with only 2000 lead.

Justice Shaukat Siddiqui removed as Islamabad High Court judge

President Arif Alvi has removed Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui as a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), a notification issued by the law ministry said on Thursday.

The president took the decision after the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recommended his removal, the statement added.

A letter written by the SJC had emerged earlier in the day, in which the council, comprising five Supreme Court judges, had said it found Justice Siddiqui guilty of misconduct over a speech he delivered in July earlier this year before the Rawalpindi District Bar Association.

"The council is unanimously of the opinion that in the matter of making his speech before the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi on [July 21] Mr. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui [...] had displayed conduct unbecoming of a judge of a high court and was, thus, guilty of misconduct and he is, therefore, liable to be removed from his office under Article 209(6) of the Constitution," the communication read.

The SJC is a constitutional forum that examines the conduct of superior court judges and then recommends their removal from the top post.

While addressing an audience at the Rawalpindi bar, Justice Siddiqui had claimed that personnel of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) were manipulating judicial proceedings.

He had further claimed that the spy agency had approached IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi and said: "'We do not want to let Nawaz Sharif and his daughter come out [of the prison] until elections, do not include Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on the bench [hearing Sharifs' appeals]'."

Justice Siddiqui had offered no evidence to support the claims he made.

The IHC judge was facing a reference over his controversial speech, the third reference filed against him.
Decision 'not unexpected': Justice Siddiqui

In a statement issued in response to the SJC's recommendation of his removal, Justice Siddiqui said the decision was "not unexpected" for him.

"When nothing came out of a baseless reference started in the name of alleged refurbishment of [my] official residence about three years ago despite full effort, my address to a bar association, every word of which was based on truth, was used as the justification [to dismiss me]," he said.

"This reference was not heard in open court despite my demand and clear verdict of the Supreme Court, and neither was a commission formed to examine the facts described in my speech.

"I am completely satisfied with the requisites of my conscience, my nation and my rank," he wrote.

Justice Siddiqui said he will present his detailed stance before the public "very soon".

On July 31, the SJC had issued a show-cause notice to Justice Siddiqui on the reference for making unnecessary and unwarranted comments at the Rawalpindi District Bar Association by accusing the establishment of manipulating the judicial proceedings.

The SJC took up the matter after considering that such comments prima facie had the tendency of undermining the respect otherwise due to such constitutional institutions.

The council did not consider another request of Justice Siddiqui to hold the proceedings of this reference in the open court.

The judge had been alrea*dy facing a reference on misconduct earlier moved on the complaint by some retired employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for alleged refurbishment of his official residence beyond entitlement.

Likewise, a similar show-cause notice was issued to Justice Siddiqui under Article 209 (5)(6) of the Constitution by the SJC on a reference moved by Advocate Kulsum Khaliq on behalf of former member of the National Asse*mbly Jamsh*ed Ahmed Dasti alleging that the high court judge had, during one of the hearings on a case relating to the 20-day Faizabad sit-in, objected to a compromise between the federal government and the protesting Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah. The compromise was facilitated by the armed forces.

After scrutinising the reference, a meeting of the SJC held on Feb 6 had observed that the judge was guilty of misconduct and should be issued a show-cause notice in this regard.

You expect to just throw away statements without being fact-checked. The foreign debt at start of PML-Ns tenure was much much lower. Balance of payments was worse too

1) 1100 B Circular debt. PMLN paid off a circular debt of 480b soon after forming government - https://tribune.com.pk/story/580865/details-of-rs480-billion-circular-debt-pay-off-released/
2) 28T Foreign debt. Foreign debt was about USD 60b in 2013. It is around 90b now.
3) depleting foreign reserves. Reserves were shrinking 500 million usd a month before PMLN approached IMF.
4) worst balance of payment. Wasn't as bad as now.
5) Biggest ever Budget deficit. It was 1.6 trillion rs in 2013. It is estimated to be 2 trillion rs now.


There were legitimate reasons for the PMLN government to approach the IMF, that is all I meant.

no whataboutism please. in a democracy it is vital to check credibility of a leader by looking at his/her past promises before elections and compare it as how he/she has acted upon them after getting in power.
 
Politicians not being able to deliver on promises shocker. Incredibly silly thread when you consider that no politician ever has been able to deliver everything they promise. In a democracy you need a supportive public and other institutions to do so.
 
A better question would be - what promises has Imran actually fulfilled? I am sure we can come up with 2-3 if we try hard.

As far as his lies and fake promises are concerned, it is too big a list to mention, but I will start with the ones from the top off my head:

- Accountability will start with him, his family and party.

- PTI will never provide a tax amnesty scheme because it is never justified (his own words).

- he will put an end to the political class in Pakistan, i.e. electables and lota politicians.

- constituencies will be reopened to verify the allegations of rigging made by the opposition.

- PM House as well as Governor Houses in all provinces will be utilized for public use.

- PTI ministers and members will not have protocol.

- Government will resist hike in electricity, fuel and gas prices.

- they will not go to IMF and other countries with a begging bowl

- health and education will be reformed in KP

- BRT will be completed within 6 months (Nov 2017)

This is a very, very brief summary. One can go on and on and on. It is important to note that most of these promises were unrealistic to begin with and PTI had no choice but to back-track.

However, PTI’s actions are more important than their intentions. They deliberately fooled the nation and took gullible people for a ride with their fake rhetoric.

They lied to the public and sold them an unrealistic picture that they are now struggling to maintain, and they deserve all the humiliation that has come their way in the last 8 months.

Imran and his supporters project him as a savior who was sent from the heavens to save Pakistan from eternal doom.

When you put yourself on a pedestal and claim that you will achieve what has never been achieved before, you will not be judged by the same standards as other politicians.

The problem with PTI supporters is that they want people to believe that Imran is a messiah, but when he fails, they want him to be treated like every other politician. That is not going to happen.

Its too early to tell. But even if true, it wont hurt too much because his core base of supporters comes from the Urban Middle Class/Upper Middle people who don't want to vote for ethnic parties, but at the same time dont want to vote for Mullahs either. These people if they vote , will do so for IK, because PPP the only other potential party which can win nationwide has been reduced to a Sindhi Party. There is risk that they could stay at home in 2023, so that is why he is going to blame PPP and PML N for all of Pakistan's problems for the next 4 years.

Crazy, it just seems like yesterday. The news coming out that IK went 5 for 5, Zartaj Gul had won, Farrukh Habib beat Abid Ali Sher and that Rana lost.

Sadly the Rana one was reversed, but still great times.


The videos of IK arriving back today, the sheer joy and happiness on everyone's face at the airport reminds me of that same feeling.
 
It has been one year since that day. Was going through this thread for a random re-read. I think Roshan Polls should be taken seriously, they are competent professionals.
 
I think we need a separate thread dedicated to Roshan Polls covering broad spectrum and not just politics. This could be a good addition to Time Pass section.

IK returning on same day from US makes it even better! There were many great results on that day my fav results were Bilawal losing from Layari to PTI, Fazlu losing from DI Khan to PTI, Khan winning 5 out of 5 and PTI winning North and South Punjab to cover the damage done in Central Punjab!

So today PTI is celebrating Yaum e Tashakur and Opposition is celebrating Black Day and guess what there are heavy rains in most of the country so not gonna end well for Opposition :))
