Its just not working and, even the bench looks to be quite inexperienced. So, probably I wouldn't like many changes and, give one more chance to the players.

I would prefer(assuming Bumrah to be fit)

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli *
Rahane
Ashwin
Pant +
Pandya
Shami
Ishant
Bumrah

Out:
Karthik, Yadav

In:
Pant, Bumrah

Vijay and Rahul get one more test.

India should drop Dinesh Karthik.

For England, it's going to be complicated if Stokes is available and mentally ready to play - let's not forget even if he is proven not guilty, it must be quite tough mentally to go through a court trial so whether he will be ready straight away to just jump into the team will also be considered. If he is able to play, one of Rashid/Pope would be dropped, would be harsh to drop Curran.

Might as well keep the team now. The guys on the bench are far too inexperienced to be put in 2-0 down in foreign conditions. Just work out who does the worst and deserves to be dropped after the series is over. And give a chance for those struggling to redeem themselves.

Bumrah should come in for Yadav.

You could put in Pant, but feel like he's just going to get replaced by Saha presumably when he comes in. So might as well keep Dinesh now, afterall he's even part of the ODI team somehow now. Just replace him when Saha comes back. The time to bring in Pant before the 2nd test, but feels a bit late now being 2-0 down.

Play anyone the entire squad or the entire country is filled with mediocrity.. Nothing will change we are just not good enough. #Fact

Think Bumrah may get a chance for the 3rd Test. Also I feel they'll drop Vijay for Dhawan and maybe drop Kuldeep.

With England they'll more than likely go with the same side, as I think Stokes won't be back for the next Test. Saying that Rashid hasn't done much to be given a spot either. They've hardly bowled him throughout the 2 matches.

Kya ho gaya bhai? A month ago we were the best team and had the best talent coming through IPL and now all of a sudden our country is filled with mediocrity? :inti

I can understand your frustration as a fellow indian fan. Even I expected them to do better this time but wohi dhaak ke teen paat. :inti

Firstly Kohli and Shastri should be sacked as captain and coach. Selecting two spinners when you know the forecast is rain/cloud is not acceptable.

India need to wake up from the Bollywood T20 IPL tamasaha and understand test cricket is a different ball game.

Stop selecting T20 players such as Pandya and move on from rubbish players such as Karthik.

I thought it was going to be close series but after the first two tests it looks like it will be a one sided series. The Trent Bridge pitch will favour England swing bowlers.India will be under pressure at Trent Bridge because India has to win to keep the series alive.

India should play 7 batsmen including Pant.

Drop Ashwin , and go with 4 seamers ( including Pandya ).

One change could be to bring in Azhar Ali as batting consultant

If I were in India camp, I would flew those two U19 batsmen for next test. There batting is so horrible, They all need to be replaced. Those young guns can gain some meaningful experience, no point in wasting next 3 test on this lot

If India is not willing to take risks then there is no point in having this disucssion. Either way, they're staring down the barrel; If I was in charge I would ring up the guy who is in blistering form right now at the FC level and fly him to England.

Someone coming at the back of runs (irrespective of conditions) would have more of a chance to make an impact than going with the lot that are either getting slaughtered in the middle or are the ones watching it first hand from the benches.

What India needs is a fresh set of eyes and a mind that isn't too clogged with 'which way the ball is moving' type of mentality. I know throwing someone at the deep end of a difficult tour is basically putting someone's entire career at risk but either way you're getting pasted, at least this way you might uncover someone who would have the mental fortitude to fight it out in the middle, when the going gets tought i.e.

For me, that guy is Subhamaniam Gill and he has all the makings of the next Kohli for India. There was a time India would debut school kids and pit them against the likes of Imran/Wasim/Waqar without fear and see if their upcoming cricketers had what it takes to swim with the best but now all I see is a conservative approach which gets them in a severe hole during such tours.

In situations like these, a leap of faith is required and all this is coming from a guy who basically does everything based on numbers and quantifiable metrics.

England should bring in stokes for buttler and moin for rashid .

India should get dhawan for Vijay, rohit for pandya, pant for Kartik, and bumrah for kuldeep .

Sorry for my ignorance but why aren’t Jadeja, dhawan and bumrah in the playing 11. Are they injured?

England name unchanged squad for Trent Bridge Test

England National Cricket Selectors have named an unchanged 13-man squad for the third Specsavers Test match against India at Trent Bridge starting on Saturday August 18.

The ECB will make an assessment of Ben Stokes’s availability after the trial in Bristol has concluded.

England Test squad

Joe Root (Yorkshire) captain

Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)

Jimmy Anderson (Lancashire)

Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire) wicketkeeper

Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)

Jos Buttler (Lancashire)

Alastair Cook (Essex)

Sam Curran (Surrey)

Keaton Jennings (Lancashire)

Ollie Pope (Surrey)

Jamie Porter (Essex)

Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)

Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

Possible India team for the 3rd Test at Trent Bridge?

Good news for India - as per a tweet:

India have no concerns over the fitness of Ravi Ashwin. Was struck on the finger while batting late on in the defeat at Lord's but all clear from the medical team, it seems

Dhawan
Pujara
Rahul (Miserable fellow)
Kohli
Rahane (Overrated)
Pant (Throw him to the wolves)
Pandya
Ashwin
Umesh
Shami
Ishant/Bumrah(If fit)

BK should have been rested for the ODI leg of the tour. Now we have a below par attack for the conditions in England. Not one swing bowler to count on.

Radical suggestion for Indian bros.

Pujara
Rahul
Rahane
Kohli
Dhawan
Pandya
Pant
Ashwin
Shami
Ishant
Umesh

1. Vijay
2. Rahul
3. Pujara
4. Kohli
5. Rahane
6. Pant
7. Pandya
8. Ashwin
9. Bhuvi
10. Shami
11. Bumrah

India have no choice but to persist with the same batting unit. The only exception is Karthik who should make way for Pant.

How is Vijay better than Dhawan? Atleast if dhawan scores he'll take the game away from England.

Idk why pandya deserves to be in xi. He is nothing but wannabe stuart binny with viv richard's attitude. The better you get rid of pandya the better we will perform.

Dhawan, Rahul, Che, Kohli, Rahane, Pandya, DK, Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami, Bumrah.

Why not send someone like a Karthik upto open, because India have tried atleast three different openers in the two tests and all three have failed spectacularly.

There is a SC batsman in England right now who knows how to play. Surprised BCCI are not offering citizenship and big bucks to the answer to their problems :azhar2

LOL funny! How is Azhar Ali doing at Somerset anyway?

I think both Vijay and Karthik need to be dropped. Vijay's mind seems frazzled and he doesn't look like buying a run, while Karthik is all at sea technically against the moving ball. It's not an ideal time to recall Dhawan or throw in a youngster at the deep end in Pant but need's must for Kohli.

Need to play extra batsman. Drop one pacer.

Make Pandya bowl more overs.

Lol what a joke we already were missing pacer in last match and you are telling to drop one more? So go with one pacer + pandya? wow

Rahul
Ashwin
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Nair
Pant
Pandya
Ishant
Shami
Bumrah

I will go with this surprise team (surprise lineup actually). Nothing is working (and not looks like working). So ask Ashwin to open the innings and strengthen the middle order bringing in Nair (that's how you can drop Vijay!) without compromising on 5 bowlers & 4 pacers. Actually Pandya has not done that bad (both with bat & ball) to be so critical about him! Its not like he lost us the match because of his bits & piece (which can happen somewhere else). His bits & peace is proving better than specialist's work so far (scored more than Vijay, Dhawan, Rahane... bowled better than Umesh, Kuldeep...) Let's stay for the moment and think about his long term later on (when we find proper batsmen & bowlers) Bumrah should play if he is marginally OK, and the burden should be shared with other 3 pacers... (Meanwhile Mohd. Siraj is doing very well in India, I think the selectors may call him for next 2 tests!)

ECB statement – Ben Stokes

An ECB spokesperson said: “Now that the legal proceedings have concluded, the disciplinary process for Ben Stokes and Alex Hales can be scheduled by the Cricket Discipline Commission [CDC].

“Ben Stokes will now join the England squad for the third Specsavers Test against India, which starts at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

“Considerable detail has been heard in this week-long court case and, in due course, there will be a range of matters for the Board to fully consider.”

Reckon Buttler will be dropped for the next test, has done absolutely nothing to justify his place in the team.

Cook

Pope

Stokes
Buttler
Woakes
Curran

Anderson

One change, Rashid out and Stokes in. Rasheed's contribution has been non existent. This way England can have 5 pacers and a batsman like Curran coming in at #9.

We are going to be mauled.😢

Exactly, I am sure Vihari, Mayank, Shaw, Pant will not do worse than them. After all most of the runs were scored by the Ashwins, pandyas and Tail enders (10 and 20s and 30s) the Top order hardly scored at an avg of 8-9

Jonny Bairstow says he is "delighted" that England team-mate Ben Stokes has been found not guilty of affray.

Stokes was cleared on Tuesday at Bristol Crown Court following an incident that took place outside a Bristol nightclub last September.

The all-rounder and his England team-mate Alex Hales, who was also involved in the incident, now await the outcome of a cricket disciplinary case, which had been on hold pending the conclusion of criminal proceedings.

"I'm really happy that the verdict has come out as it has for English cricket," England wicketkeeper Bairstow said.

"It's big for him. It's been a long 10 months for him, for his family.

"(I'm) delighted and hopefully we can see him back in an England shirt very, very soon because we saw the impact that he had at Edgbaston only a couple of weeks ago in the first Test."

It was confirmed later on Tuesday that Stokes will rejoin the squad for the third Test, which gets under way at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

He starred as England won the first Test against India at Edgbaston, but was unable to play the second due to the case as Joe Root's side went 2-0 up at Lord's over the weekend.

The five-match series runs until mid September with the final two Tests taking place at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton and The Oval in London.

(2/2) and work with the batsmen individually and make things work. Another thing I'd like to add, Test selection shouldn’t be based on IPL’s performances. #ENGvIND #RPSwing

Oh my, the IPL brigade will be pelting his house soon and burning his effigies too, how dare he thinks IPL is not providing master players for tests!

At Trentbridge, ENG can go with 5 seemers, instead of Adil. If it's a dry wicket not sure, but otherwise spiiners are not going to do much damage to Indian batting. Another option could be to drop Jennigs and play Moeen as opener, keeping 5 seemers, but not suggested.

Jennings, Cook
Root, Pope, Bairstow, Stokes, Buttler
Woakes, Curren, Broad, Jimmy

For IND, if they can avoid defeat at Nottingham, I think next 2 Tests provide better suited venue for them. Not many options due to poor selection and injury, but Pant should debut and Pujara might be tried as opener. Otherwise, not sure if the back-up batsmen can do better than who are in playing XI. Bowlers pick themselves - if he is fit Bumrah replaces Kuldeep, otherwise UYadav plays.

Pujara, Dhawan/Vijay
KL, Kohli, Rahne, Pandeya
Pant
Ashwin, Shami, ISharma, Bumrah/UYadav

Poms won't mind a green top and cloudy 5 days (It won't go to 5 days, in that case).

Bumrah, Ashwin cleared; Kohli still uncertain for Nottingham Test

Their campaign in England in complete disarray, India would have received a boost with news of Jasprit Bumrah being declared fit for the third Test starting Saturday at Nottingham. Bumrah, who underwent surgery on his left thumb and went back to India for rehab before being called back for the Test series, was seen bowling in the nets during the two Tests.

Offspinner R Ashwin, who top-scored for India in both innings, and allrounder Hardik Pandya, who received blows to their hands while batting in Lord’s, have also been cleared to play.

Apparently, the team management was waiting for Bumrah to recover completely and for his plaster cast to come off. At Lord’s, he was seen bowling without the cast and it is thus believed that the 24-year-old has been passed fit. Bumrah made his Test debut in South Africa earlier this year, where he took 14 wickets in the three matches. His availability however, hopes to add further dilemma regarding the Playing XI.

However, the biggest question mark hovers around Indian captain Virat Kohli, who reportedly is yet to fully recover from a lower back pain. During the Lord’s Test, Kohli had to leave the field on the third day after tea. Even when he walked out to bat at No.5 during India’s second innings, he looked in immense pain during his 29-ball 17.

Even though Kohli has claimed he’ll get fit on time ahead of the third Test at Trent Bridge that starts from August 18, it’s not a certainty. The prospect of the team being without their captain serves as a huge blow to India, whose batting has been abysmal barring Kohli. In two Tests, Kohli has made 250 runs in four innings for an average of 60; the other specialist batsmen have managed 167. As per a gym session on Tuesday, the Indian team, including its captain took part.

Legendary Sunil Gavaskar had said India shouldn’t shy away from including captain Kohli in their playing XI even if he’s 50 per cent fit. He feels Kohli should be the one to take call on whether he’s match fit.

Nasser Hussain says Ben Stokes should return for third Test - but must 'have hard look at himself'

Nasser Hussain says he would pick Ben Stokes for England's third Test against India - but encouraged the all-rounder to "have a hard look at himself" after his affray trial concluded.

Stokes was found not guilty at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday and has subsequently been added to England's squad to face India at Trent Bridge from Saturday, live on Sky Sports Cricket.

Sky Sports expert and former England captain Hussain says the 27-year-old, who missed the second Test at Lord's while attending his trial, should slot straight back into the side in Nottingham as the hosts aim to wrap up a series win with two games to spare.

But Hussain believes Stokes must now show he is the "unassuming" character that he sees while covering English cricket, with that "not the image that has been portrayed" since last September's late-night incident outside a nightclub following an ODI win over Windies.

"As far as selection goes, Ben is one of the best XI cricketers in the country and has been found innocent in a court of law, although, obviously, [coach] Trevor Bayliss and [captain] Joe Root have to look at Ben mentally," Hussain told Sky Sports News.

"I am amazed how well he has coped mentally over the last few months with this hanging over him and as long as they feel he is mentally fit for selection then they should pick him.

"Ben is a pretty simple guy - he is most comfortable, most happy playing cricket for England. He loves it. It's all he wants to do, to be honest. If he says he is available to play then Joe, who knows him well, will want him back.

"Importantly, I think Stokes needs to have a long, hard look at himself - it's a couple of times now he has been in the press for the wrong reasons.

"The Ben I know and who I see around the cricket team is a popular, unassuming, down-to-earth, very pleasant individual that will stay after a game and do autographs with kids for an hour and give his time.

"But I only see Stokes at cricket, so Ben has to make a decision - the image we see of him at cricket is probably not the image that has been portrayed over the last six months in the newspapers."

Stokes and England one-day star Alex Hales, who was also out in Bristol last Autumn, could yet face punishment from the ECB's Cricket Discipline Commission, which will meet following the conclusion of criminal matters.

Hussain has urged the CDC to act decisively and not take "the easy option".

"This is the most important stage now," he added.

"The court case was huge for Stokes but now the ECB have to look at those images, which everyone has seen clearly, from a late night out in Bristol after an ODI. The Commission has to rule whether they are the sort of images they want portrayed from their cricket team.

"They could take the easy, soft option and say: 'It's been tough for Ben already, he's missed the Ashes, one of the great series' but I think that would be missing the point.

"They need to make a detailed and informed decision on whether those images are right for English cricket."

He's innocent before the law he gets to play...

He played well with the pressure just before the hearing I have no doubt he'd be right to go now. He seems one of those Warne like characters who can perform on the field no matter the mess of their private life.

Woakes did well though...

If Kohli is out, India should just forfeit. They don't have replacements for the struggling batters as it is, never mind replacing their best player

Jos Buttler is delighted to have team-mate Ben Stokes back in the fold for England ahead of the third Test against India at Trent Bridge.

Chris Woakes did phenomenally well in Stokes' absence at Lord's, notching a maiden Test hundred, and Sam Curran has contributed some exciting displays with both and ball in the first two Tests. Despite a plethora of options having emerged in England's all-rounder department, Buttler believes that Stokes is a shoe-in for selection.

"It will be a tough selection for the third Test at Trent Bridge," Buttler wrote on Sky Sports. "Sam Curran and Chris Woakes have won the Man of the Match awards in the first two Tests and with Ben Stokes coming back into the squad it will be a difficult decision for the coach and captain.

Stokes took a match-winning 4/40 in the first Test at Edgbaston Stokes took a match-winning 4/40 in the first Test at Edgbaston
"But Stokes walks into most teams around the world ... I'm sure he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet. I'm looking forward to seeing him joining us back at training."

Buttler also heaped praise on Jimmy Anderson. "There's talk again about how long Jimmy can continue for. He's 36 and fast bowling puts horrible exertion on the body, but he is still very much enjoying his cricket, and is an incredible professional, keeping in great shape. He is a great role model for us all," wrote Buttler on the 36-year old MRF Tyres No.1-ranked Test bowler, who took nine wickets at Lord's including a magnificent 5/20 in the first innings.

"It's down to him how long he wants to keep playing, but it seems like he is only getting better and better with age, bringing up a century of strikes at Lord's this week and moving up to 553 overall. Murali's 800 wickets may be just out of reach, though!"

'It's down to him how long he wants to keep playing' - Buttler on Anderson 'It's down to him how long he wants to keep playing' - Buttler on Anderson
England's bowlers have been the most consistent performers in this Test series so far, and amidst hailing the seamers for their outstanding efforts thus far, Buttler recalls the moment he made amends for his two drops off Woakes' bowling.

"When these guys are on song, you feel like the ball is coming to you every ball," he wrote. "And that's literally what happened to me when I made up for a couple of drops off Woakesy at second slip with catches immediately after.

"There were some fantastic performances put in by the guys – the bowlers especially. They showed incredible amounts of skill and passion to dismiss India so cheaply twice. It's a privilege to be on the same field as guys like Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad when they catch fire like they can do. Two of the best there has ever been."

Ben Stokes included in England squad 'for his own wellbeing', says Trevor Bayliss

Head coach Trevor Bayliss says the decision to include Ben Stokes in the England squad for the third Test against India on Saturday was taken for the all-rounder's "wellbeing".

However, Bayliss said he would take time before deciding whether the 27-year-old would play at Trent Bridge.

Stokes was involved in a fracas in Bristol last September but was found not guilty of affray on Tuesday.

"I'm happy for Ben and glad it's all over," said the Australian.

On Thursday, former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed surprise that Stokes had not taken a break from the game following Tuesday's verdict.

However, Bayliss said "a collective decision" had been taken to reintroduce Stokes.

"Myself, the management, the captain, Andy Flower, the board - everyone had a bit of a say and basically thought for his wellbeing it was good to get him back around the cricket."

Bayliss also confirmed that Stokes had apologised to his team-mates and said he would encourage the all-rounder to make a public apology.

For England - Stokes in for Rashid. That’s it.

Go for an all-seam attack.

For India I would replace Pandya with Dhawan and Kuldeep with another seamer maybe Bumrah depending on whoever is bowling better in nets. For England Stokes comes in for Pope you have to play one spinner at the minimum.

The word from Nottingham and Bangalore is that Bhuvneshwar Kumar will not be available for the England series. The medium pacer, who would have relished the current English conditions, is understood to have not recovered enough to be available for the last two Tests, the squad for which will be announced after the Trent Bridge match. The Test starts tomorrow.

Bhuvneshwar has been attending the rehab programme at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore but sources from the academy and Nottingham indicate that the pacer has not recovered enough to be considered for selection. At the time of announcing the squad for the first three Tests, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had said that he could be available for the last two games.

However, the team management is not losing sleep over Bhuvneshwar’s non-availability. With Jasprit Bumrah recovering fully, the management’s worry is not bowling but batting. With the team failing to last even 90 overs at Lord’s, the concern is over runs, not wickets.

But a team source has told this paper that the mood is positive, the defeats in the first two Tests notwithstanding. Immediately after the Lord’s Test, there was a long meeting where some tough talking was done by the seniors and it was felt that the team should approach the series as a three-Test contest.

“We’ve agreed that we messed up in Lord’s and got outplayed. But the fact was when we batted the conditions were damp and when we bowled, the weather was sunny. It is not an excuse but the fact was the luck was not on our side,” the source said.

https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com...mar-fails-to-recover/articleshow/65432515.cms

Captain Joe Root has confirmed that Ben Stokes will return to the side replacing Sam Curran from the side that won the second Test at Lord's.

Root said: "It was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make as captain. It’s about us as a squad delivering over five games and on this occasion Sam is unfortunate to miss out.

"Ben is desperate to get back playing cricket. He’s desperate to get out there, put in performances and concentrate on his cricket now. He feels ready to play."

Poor Sam. I would've brought in Stokes for Rashid, not Curran who was your match winner.

We can have a trade deal then & ask him to join our team! We will supply Jayant Yadav or anyone when they tour us, it can help them :)

Tbf, they could've dropped either Rashid or Curran. The only reason Curran played was because Woakes was out injured. Now that he, along with Stokes is back, there's no reason to go in with 3 all-rounders.

Rashid is a very lucky boy too though. He's not had many chances with the ball and when he has it's to the tail-enders - barring Kohli in the 1st Test.
