Pentagon spending has totaled over $14 trillion since the start of the war in Afghanistan, with one-third to one-half of the total going to military contractors.

A large portion of these contracts -- one-quarter to one-third of all Pentagon contracts in recent years -- have gone to just five major corporations: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman. The $75 billion in Pentagon contracts received by Lockheed Martin in fiscal year 2020 is well over one and one-half times the entire budget for the State Department and Agency for International Development for that year, which totaled $44 billion.

Weapons makers have spent $2.5 billion on lobbying over the past two decades, employing, on average, over 700 lobbyists per year over the past five years. That is more than one for every member of Congress.

Numerous companies took advantage of wartime conditions—which require speed of delivery and often involve less rigorous oversight—to overcharge the government or engage in outright fraud. In 2011, the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan estimated that waste, fraud and abuse had totaled between $31 billion and $60 billion.

As the U.S. reduces the size of its military footprint in Iraq and Afghanistan, exaggerated estimates of the military challenges posed by China have become the new rationale of choice in arguments for keeping the Pentagon budget at historically high levels. Military contractors will continue to profit from this inflated spending.

"The West" must find something else to build instead of bombs.

If Chinese can maintain a billion souls without waging wars around the globe so can the (so called) "anglosphere" / AUKUS

They (military industrial complex / American establishment) literally ended a war and are already preparing to start a new one!

Pura maldad / Pure evil.

This is a bit naive and simplistic.

They wage war on their own citizens, particularly the Uyghur on whom the commit genocide right now.

They are involved in the Mali War against ISIL, and Syrian Civil War.

They have the second largest military on the planet. They are a major arms exporter. What do you think they are building all these weapons for?

They are buying up utilities all over Africa, South and Central America, and the far East, to increase their hegemony.

While criticism of “the West” is often valid, you should be even handed. Stop thinking digitally - this is not a cowboy film with good guys and bad guys. China are being bad guys too.

In an ideal world, nobody should put their focus on weapons.

I guess history will decide who were the good/bad guys.

The conclusion is: everyone loses and the weapon manufacturers win.

That I can accept. An American General said “I am in effect an enforcer for the gangsters of Wall St. The flag follows the money, and the soldiers follow the flag.”

He said that in 1928.

Watch the film "Lord of War" with Nicolas Cage. It reveals how war works and who benefits the most. It shows how war is the biggest business on the planet. It is all about the governments, media and the militaries making money.

Many technologies we use today are the results of this war industrial complex. It's a massive economy and helped Americans in opening up new markets for their companies. There's always a cause to fight for

Waging war on own citizens has tough competition. Just remember the the local Indians of America or natives of Australia. Recently there were news of mass graves in schools for Indian children where there were sent forcibly to commit cultural genocide. It turns out actual physical one was also happening within the walls. Also, it is not long ago that Europe fought 2 world wars killing each other. China is bad but at least as of now she is not attacking anyone outside.

They're also using slave labour in camps so you know, China is hardly a barometer of ethics!

And you think this doesn’t happen in US? Ever heard about guest farm workers in US?

Or recently temple building labourers from India?

The difference is voluntary vs involuntary.
