Racist vandals get religion and spelling wrong in abusive graffiti on family’s home

Racist vandals showed they weren’t too bright after misspelling ‘Allahu Akbar’ in a sick message they painted on a home in Liverpool.

The thugs also scrawled ‘P***’ on the front of the house in Stapleton Avenue, Speke, after finding out a Sri Lankan Hindu family was moving in.

The vandals, who smashed windows at the property, had mistaken them for Pakistani Muslims and attempted to spell Arabic phrase ‘Allah is Greater’.

But instead they wrote ‘Allar Akbar’ (sic).

The owner of the house, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: ‘We have been getting the house ready so I can move in with my family.

‘I have been living in London for 11 years and we are moving here to join my brother. I’ve never seen anything like this before.’

He added: ‘We are not even Muslims, we are Hindus, and we hate the terrorists also.

‘I am very upset and scared now. I have a wife and three young children but we are still going to move in.’

The racist graffiti has now been painted over and the damaged windows have been boarded up.

It is believed the vandals struck late on Saturday or in the early hours of yesterday.

The owner is still planning to move in with his family and says his new neighbours have been great.

A local resident said: ‘I got the shock of my life when I woke up this morning and saw the outside of the house.

‘It’s heartbreaking. I’ve lived here 15 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened.

‘I just hope it hasn’t put off the family who are moving in. The vast majority of people in Speke are not like that.’

Detective Inspector Debbie Tipton added: ‘We will not tolerate hate crimes being committed against members of our community and everything possible is being done to investigate this incident.

‘It’s sickening to think that people think that this kind of behaviour is acceptable.

‘Everyone has the right to live peacefully within their community and to go about their daily lives without harassment from others just because they are perceived to be different.

‘We will take the strongest possible action against those who behaved in this unacceptable way.’

I doubt it stops them sleeping at night and plenty of people wouldn't be able to spell this in English.

The bigger issue for me is the Indian Hindu family. They move into an area which doesn't have many ethnic minorities and because they are not Muslim they are shocked they would face racist abuse. Too many Indians start to believe they are white just because they have lived in the country for a decade or two. Instead of condemning what happened they always say but Im not Muslim as if the racists care.

They may think they are white, but they need to realize they don't have white privilege. If they keep silent on racism, let alone distance themselves as not the intended victims, it is only coming back to bite them. Silence is an option only for the privileged.

And while I agree with your sentiment, I feel you're reading too much into the quote. Please remember this is an average man who just had his home vandalized. It's quite unreasonable to expect him to speak like a seasoned politician.

It's nothing new . I've read and watched many incidents where brown ppl have been attacked and in response they resort to trying to explain they are not Pak's or whatever they have been called instead of just calling out racists for their racism . Sikhs have also done this when attacked because of their beard &turban.

If only the perpetrators had known that the residents were Hindus, they would probably have knocked on the door and welcomed them to the community. If anyone heard the show on LBC they would have heard the Indian caller telling all how popular and well liked Hindus are in the west. This was obviously just a case of mistaken identity.
