Rangpur Riders win Bangladesh Premier League 2017/18

CV is a much better unit, but RR has Gayle.

I think, for tomorrow's match CV should take a risk and bowl as many overs of Hasan as possible when CG is in middle - if he gets him out, game over; if he doesn't, I don't think preserving Hasan for last overs matters much.

None of the top 3 of CV can play consistently over a strike rate of 140 and with Butler failing, they have a massive problem.

Samuels is like a diesel engine, takes about 20 deliveries to warm up before doing anything. They need to add some firepower to their top 3, none of liton or imrul are top class.

Gayle or no Gayle, their batting needs to fire and that's the main concern for them.

Comilla's bowling is good. But top order is very slow which makes them vulnerable. If Gayle gets going he can end the match very fast.

Gayle gone, that too of Mehedi!!! Now, CV surely is favourite.

It's good that Tamim agreed to carry forward the game - now we should watch a full game.

RR has hit the form at the right time, winning 2 KO games - I think, they'll give DD the best fight in Final.

Dhaka's bowlers getting some phainty from Gayle and McCullum, they might be regretting not playing Amir, who always performs brilliantly in Finals and is very economical too.

Poor captaincy by Shakib, he has not utilized his bowlers including himself very well, also they needed a World Class bowler like Amir in the death today.

Not picking ur best bowler against the best batting line up....its blunder and DD is paying for it.

Only solution against players like CG is to get him out - guy scored 128 out of 146 by boundaries, that's 128 in 23 balls!!!!!

Shakib (DD) made 2 blunders today - smaller one was the bowling picks (and usage of bowlers), bigger one was to bowl first in a Final.

Few things looking fishy here - why would DD opt to field in a Final after crashing teams batting first? Why would Shakib bowl 1 over less? Now, they are slotting Afridi/Narine at 8/9!!!!!

Tamasha ends with an even shallower final - waste of a day:(

yes Off the field but not by the particular guy....hope u watched the entire match.

I did, though not sure if it was a good idea :(

Anyway, as they say all great things has to end once - so good bye for one year, PSL next, then IPL.......

I've watched the second half of the tournament or followed it and these are some of the things that I observed

1. Mashrafe may not be a great player but the man is an immensely brave captain. Yes, the last three matches were won by the top 3 but they were there because of some excellent and brave decisions. Shakib on the other hand is more like a center forward preying around the penalty box and taking penalties to have a great goal tally. In difficult moments, he went missing and almost felt like he was padding his statistics than taking responsibility and getting the job done.

2. The pace bowling talent in Bangladesh is still lacking behind the world and established teams. Abu Hider, Saifuddin, Qazi Onik etc. are still bowling majority of their deliveries under 130 kph. It may work in BPL and on slow pitches but for them to become a true force, this needs to change. With Mashrafe on his last legs, the bowlers Rubel, Taskin, Mustafizur really have to step up their game.

3. The pay as you play policy is a smart business move. I think the players may feel shortchanged and the fans may at times feel that their favorite stars aren't playing as often as they should but the policy is brilliant in its very own way.

4. The pitches need to be made better. Full stop.

5. The organization of the tournament needs to be better. The stuff that happened before the second qualifier was absolutely appalling.

6. Chris Gayle is the greatest t20 player of all-time and possibly the greatest hitter the game has seen. He has gotten better with time instead of starting strong and fading away with time, his star has improved and he has maintained his consistency.

7. Pakistani players are not as important as some of the supporters at PakPassion think that they are. BPL is not a minnow league anymore and maybe they should get some Indian player somehow (especially from Bengal if possible) to take the next leap.

+8) BPL need good international commentators. i.e Dean Jones, Bishop, Mel Jones etc

Improving wicket (s) could be the biggest challenge, if BPL is arranged in NOV (which'll be the case as this is the safest slot in between IPL & future ECB League). Our rainy season ends as late as end October and the climate is changing - it showering most in AUG-SEP, instead of July these days, which makes it impossible to prepare good T20 wickets. Compared to Dhaka Test (against AUS), what they did for wickets & out field in a month is remarkable. Our wicket gets better after January, and by March those are best batting wickets, but that time arranging BPL is too risky. After first few seasons in JAN-FEB, they have shifted it to November, which I think is the best time, therefore only solution for better wicket could be drop-in wickets, which they do have a plan, but that needs lots of infrastructural developments (not sure, in Dhaka you can drive through a 23 metre long & 4 metre wide lorry!!!!!!!)

The 2nd qualifier had very little issues - as per tournament rules, they could have awarded the match to CV and it would have been acceptable. But, that would have been cruel (& we won't have seen 2 master classes by Mac & CG) - CV & Tamim accepted the change & I am sure Mash would have done so, had he been in same position of CV (he led them last year, I believe).

I am sure, in couple of years time, apart from IPL, every such league will go to PAYP payment mood - I explained why, in another thread. This is the only way to keep top starts involved in a cluttered cricket season, without DEEP pockets.

Management has to improve, so is broadcasting quality for sure.

The tournament committee should set provisions and put ground rules for untoward situations like that.

I purposely did not touch some issues in the league for example things that happened once qualification was ensured for certain teams and the broadcasting standard.
