A legend of the game. These turners have helped the likes of Jadeja and Axar boost their stats but not as much for Ashwin.
Ashwin in my opinion is an ATG cricketer. There is more to game than just stats. He is the greatest off-spinner of all-time and a very good batsman.

will retire as the greatest off spinner in test history, his away stats will improve so by the time he retired expect him to average sub 30 home and away. can see him taking another 100 wickets easy.

The GOAT Asian Test all-rounder and the GOAT Asian Test spinner.
I personally do not recognize Muralitharan’s record, and I think Ashwin is now better than Kumble.
A titan of Indian cricket.

)Time to bump the test XI draft

Great bowlers are the ones who take wickets in all conditions - especially away from home in unfamiliar conditions
Like Dale Steyn taking 10 wickets on a batting paradise in Nagpur 2010, Kapil Dev getting 51 wickets in 11 tests in Australia, Botham taking 13 wickets in Bombay test, Richard Hadlee getting 15 in that 1986 Brisbane test where NZ scored 500, Shane Warne getting 100 plus wickets in England !
Ashwin's record away from home is bang average. Not what u expect from a ATG . Most of hiw wickets have come on spinning pitches. Even James Anderson nicknamed Clouderson won test matches in Australia & India .
So Ashwin needs to win a few test matches away from home in SENA. Heck even Nathan Lyon won test in England in 2019 !
Adelaide 2018
Melbourne 2020

Ashwin should continue to play until he is 45...he should take another 400 wickets in test cricket to become the greatest cricketer since Don Bradman
70-80 overs in both tests with ER of 1.7
Took out the top order in both tests.
From India? Or World?
Top 5 greatest spinners of all-time:-
Shane Warne
Muttiah Muralitharan
Ravichandran Ashwin
Anil Kumble
Keshav Maharaj
Good performances but not exactly career defining. Graeme Swann took 20 in 5 wickets in 2010-11 & was arguably more impactful as a bowler
Batsmen Ashwin has dismissed most in Tests:
BEN STOKES 11
David Warner 10
Alastair Cook 9
Ed Cowan 7
James Anderson 7
All these are Left-handers
Keshav over Lyon?

Let's look at the numbers of Ashwin.
This ain't for our beloved Bilal bhai
But for posters and lurkers who might be wondering how to make sense of Ashwin's numbers.
India has NOT lost a series here since Ashwin's debut except for the 2012 England series where he lost his radar and averaged 50.
This domination is why Ashwin is rated so high.
Now, for one to be truly rated among the greats, they have to perform in SENA where the conditions are tough.
Pretty modest returns.
But this doesn't give you the entire picture because Ashwin improved post 2015.
If a student got 20 marks and 80 marks in 2 annual exams, we don't say he averages 50 and call him mediocre.
We look deeper and so that's what we have to do.
This is where criticism of Ashwin is valid. He wasn't as good.
With that being said, he actually had a very very decent series in Aus 2014/15 bowling in impossibly hard pitches with no support. Matched Lyon in the games they played.
Most people (barring a few) saw these numbers and were convinced that how Ashwin would never do well in SENA.
But there was ENOUGH in the data here to suggest he was likely to do well in future tours. He wasn't that bad in England (average of 33 in a couple of games) and he held his own in Aus (2014/15) regardless of what the stats say.
By the end of the 2014/15 Aus tour, he was a changed bowler.
And here's what happened next
Much much improved numbers.
This includes games where he played with injuries this cycle and messed up his stats. Not to mention the Centurion drops which literally changed the course of the game & series.
With all being said, he does need to deliver more in SENA. If he has a bumper Eng tour in the next few months, there won't be any holes to point out except overall SENA stats. lol.
